Hold Me Close

Backcast

The past few years we have seen a boom in technology. While our electronic devices are getting smaller and smarter, our outlook on society turned inward. Having a world of information in the palm of a hand has created a strong sense of individuality. Fashion has not been immune to this mindset. Scarves and belts become the norm. They create a sense of security and detatchment from the world around.

Scarves

Scarves are a way of concealing onesself; giving a barrier between them and the outside world. As people become more obsessed with technology, they become detatched from the world around them. Scarves aid in the detatchment of the outside world. As shown here, the idea of covering the head and neck is a popular trend.

Belts

The waist hugging sillhouette belts create translates the idea of self-containment. Belts hold close to the body and resemble armor against the elements. They also resemble utility belts which hold electronic devices, making them easily accesable. As shown by the floral prints above, women are begining to embrace a more natural approach to fashion but still conceal themselves with the use of a belt.

Women’s mega trends S/S 2013

Break Free

As all trends fade, the obsession with technology will too. As the hype of new technology dies down, consumers will want a fresh aproach to fashion. They will want to break free from the grasp of electronics. In spring/summer 2013 we will see the trends step back to a more simple way of life. The megatrend, Break Free, expresses the need to escape the hold technology has had.

Minamalist

A minamalistic approach will be a front runner in this trend. People will rid themselves of their material possesions as well as their extreme accessories. Consumers will gravetate towards draped garments with natural tones. There will be no need for multiple pockets, bags, belts, or any other tool used to carry an arsenal of belongings.

Naturalist

It is no surprise to see a naturalistic approach to fashion in this trend. Consumers will want to get in touch with mother nature again. Durable clothing and fabric will be key in this trend. People will begin participating in outdoor activities with friends and family instead of movie nights. This will lead to garments which are very obviously inspired by nature.

Back to Roots

As society moves away from technology, we see a trend towards a simpler way of life. Consumers put down their electronic readers and pick up paper copies of their favorite novel. With this comes a need for larger bages and big pockets to hold library books and sketch pads. This consumer wants to feel at one with nature and can be seen painting in the park or attending to a garden.
