' I cantt be botheredt issue 1 kirktscotty, 25 planthill road, higher blackley, Manchester, M9 6wh, uk. First of all I'd like to thank the following, bruno from nauzia, john from willbreaker and joel from toxic holocaust, cheers for the interviews guys, I hope it helps your projects in some capacity. Right why rl can't be bothered,?, Well the simple answer to that is thatts the overall impression I get from this scene of ours, I even feel that way myself a lot of the time, its took me ages to get off my arse and start this project, I must of done this three times already, and each time put the bloody thing to one side saying, yeah you guessed' I cantt be botheredt, what a poor excuse, this scene is in need of a lot more production from the likes of me and you, therets just not enough good new zines available anymore because most of us would rather leave it to other people, hence the the lack of zines, personally I think zines are by far the best way of doing interviews and reports, much better than sitting in front
of the comp all night looking at a screen, l'm not against ezines in anyway shape or form, those guys put a hell of a lot time and effort in there projects, but be honest there's nothing better than settling down with a good copy of artcore or attitude problem, suspect device, a glass of your favourite beer and a great interview with your fave band, now tel! me am I right?, course I am, you know it makes sense. So come on and do like ltm doing, make an effort, start a zine, a distro anything that will help keep our scene alive and healthy, Ghrist knows theres sod all else. Well that's my gripe out of the way, on with the show, You'll have noticed already that there's a cd-r with the zine, it as 27 tracks lrom 27 bands and a bloody good line-up if I may say so myself, now the reason Itve put a cd'r with this issue is, my original aim was to release a cd comp done professionally, as you can see this didn't work out
which I must apologizes to everyone of the bands that sent stuff expecting to be on a cd comp, its basically the old storY a cash flow problem, I suPPose you could say ! should of give things a little more thought, but ! did expect to produce the said comp, anyway again sorry guys' Anyway the cd-r comp hoPefullY goes in some way to compensating each band. Now that ltve actually got this thing together I would like to release a cd-r with every issue, be it a comp a split basically anythingt so if there's any interested bands out there that want to be part of this send stuff to the address above and will see what we can do..ok. As youtve seen on the front cover l've got 3 interviews for this edition, my intension was to do one interyiew per issuer but again my ideas have changed so the three bands wil! aPPear within this issue, All the bands Itve interviewed all desewe a plugn all a bit different from each other, and in my opinion excellent bands. You'll obviously find these things out when You read what they have to saY. So whats the whole purpose in this?, wetl my intensions are to give people a little info on whats happening out there, now you've got to agree this is a very hard
proiect to do and something I need a little help with so that's where you lot come in, to make this successful and something interesting I need you to send me youl newsr your info, what your up to, what releases Your Iabel as released, weather or not your band is touring soonr so come on send your stuff to me and l'll put it in the zine. Now I did put a info sheet out a while back and got nothing back whatso ever dontt reallY no whY? Obviously you 'can't be botheredt, so this time t come on eh'.
Release info This section is for stuff thatts just been made available or about to be released, although if the labels mentioned have anY more info to add you'll have to get in touch with them, there addresses will al be in the contacts page..ok One of my favrourite labels right now is intimidation records out of Scotland, if you've not alreadY heard the stuff that iim as released then your missing some quality tunes, the last 3 or 4 7' released on'this label have been excellent to say the leastt personally one of my faves was the roverspill' 7' ' whots wart,
four blistering punk anthems with my best track being . death by viagra', what a way to die eh? lf you don't already own this 7' your edts been up your arse, so come get it. Next up from the vaults of intimidation come .fake patriots' 7', you've probably heard them before but not as good as this, here's the cover.
right now l've not got this in stock but they'll soon be here so watch my next distro list. The latest offering from intimidation is a split 7'with the swellbellys and assailants, now Itve not actually heard this one yet although by the time you read this l'm sure I will of, but the swellbellys are for me one of the finest punk bands ever to walk this earth, they are so much like the stuff from the 8O's ie exploited to name iust one, and there last album'shut up and listen' as been one of the finest albums ltve heard for a long time, so if you just wanna get this 7' just for the swellbellys I would recommend it wholeheartedly.
a little bit more info on the swells, I believe the l2 tracks that were recorded for the' peter bowert release will be a 1O'titled I taking care of business'this will hopefully be available by the end of summer. Next up some tour news from those swellbellys, in august there flying off to france&Switzerland for a couple of weeks, the planned tour with assert as been cancelled not sure why?, but on the 7th and 8th of sept they'll be playing Kirkcaldy and Edinburgh. Gontinuing with the swells they start a tour over in lreland in October kicking off in Belfast, they'll be more details on that in the near future. One final bit of news from intimidation is that in about 2/3 months time they'll be releasing there first album with a band called the'actives', so look out for that one. Garrying on with new releases lets look at what F.G.R have got right now, again this is one of my favourite labels right now, steve as released some fuckin quality stuff and all d.i.y as it
comes, why people are not keen on the cd-r release beats me?, it's a cheap way to get your stuff out, I mean we cantt all afford to pay out hundreds to keep everyone happy. Anyway as you all know by now F.G.R released a stunning cd-r album with kismit hc calledt our message is our angey' this is one to get hold of if you already havetnt. My favourite release though as to be'it cantt
This is a truly stunning album, 38 tracks of underground hardcore with bands like eggraid (uk), existench (Ganada), and my fave nabla (Yugoslavia) and many more, and for f,2 fuckin quid how you do it steve fuck knows? But keep it up. Also from the depths of F.C.R comes another co-releases 7t with thrash monstens.see you in hell', this is awesome, if you like your music hard and fast as fuck
get this. lte got to say some of the best sounds at the moment are coming from eastem Europe, maybe it was the years of repression that done it?..keep it up. As you've probably noticed kinda like a lot of different
I
styles of punk, well that's how it should be, none this'that's shit, this is shit', stick together I say. Right on with the shovy, a few months back now there was a cd album released by punkshit records and most of you have probably got this in your collection tnot rwhere the fuck have you been'? this as got to be one of the best compilations of punkrock l've heard, 4O fuckin tracks of oi/streetpunk anthems from the likes of 'dogshit sandwicht'runnin riott' gobble and the cocks'and basicallt too many to mention, so fuckin buy one and see for yourself
Also from punkshit recs comes a truly classic split Tt single, the two bands involved are excellent and rich certainly knows is job. On the first side we have two politica! slabs of punk from.runnin riott, 'divided loyalties, and. working class killing' on the other side comes . tower blocks'from germany these are more your oi style band with two excellent titles . general boredomt and . drunk in publict. Lets put it this way, if you meet these guys on the terraces fuckin run..ha. Just to finnish on punkshit recs, there first release was a blinder too, a split 7, with dogshit sandwich/hippy war generals I think you'll stil! be able to get this from rich and I have a few copies left myself, so go on spend a few quid and get some great stuff. As you see l,m trying to get out details on releases and labels so if you wanna send me some info over the net or write to me then go ahead that,s what this is al! about. Hears a bit of news from 'violent reaction, records (usa), the assailants who appeared on the split with the swellbellys have just releases a storming 7, called'hate machine,, yourtl be able to get this from me pretty
soon, but in the meam time if your can't wait then send $4 to ron Ramirez, po box 9O2, artesia, ca 9O702-O9O2. They've also got other stuff available from the same address. Now herets a bit of news from darkest Manchester, a band recently formed with the name 'mental blockt but after seeing a rap group from the usa with the same name decided to change, now we don't want another 4 letter word do we?. Anyway there name is now scissorfist and there fuckin awesome, they've iust done there first demo called . think, this as 7 tracks of pure hardcore mayhem, so if you want a copy get in touch at'kirktscotty'and l'll send you one, .hey only a E1r, oh and there looking for gigs so get in touch with them, you can mail them at mentalblock25@aol,com. Thatts about it for now, as I say send your info to me and ltll surely put it in the next issue, obviously zines take a while so my intensions are to put out regular updates so to keep up with whats goin on. Willbreaker lnterview
ffittttrsuhrr
KtS Ol. Hey John, let's start with a brief intro, who's in the band? Who plays what and where you're from. Willbreaker: Attacks on Wills are ignited by the six-string of treble warfare as played by Mr. Langendorf, burly blast
beats by Mr. David Reinhardt, bellows ofbasement bass by Mr. Jacob Landrau and green eyes and shrill cries by Mr. John Lutz. Soon Mr. John Frieman will attach himself to low-end duties, affording Mr. Landrau the opportunity to add high end force to our aural assault team hailing from the New Paltzarea of the Mid-Hudson Valley, loCated in Upstate
.
New York.
KtS 02. Give me a little history on your brnd, how long have you been together? Willbreaker: MrLangendorf,Mr.Reinhardtandmyselfhadpreviouslyfannedtheflamesoffastcoreragetogetherina small bandofthievesknownasSayYouHateMe.Personalityclashes,verballashingsandtheinabilitytofinJastable. four-string thunderer lead us to our timely demise in November of 2000, composing in typical Say you Hate Me fashion, 4 new songs in the eleventh hour prior to that show. A gentleman by the name of Mr. Jeffiey Alexander took bass duties on that cool, brisk day and subsequently became a founding member of Willbreaker, whin we all rose from

none of them vtolent, so we all remain on the best of terms.
[1!@.
In past conversations with you, you've talked a little about how you live a straight edge lifestyle, if that's the correct term. Most of the older scenesters will already know what this meens, but for the up and coming ki& give them a little insight into what this means. Willbreaker: Tony my friend, you pose a dangerous inquiry to me. In this case it's necessary for me to refer the up and comers to the wonderment ofthe early 1980's Washington, DC hardcore scene and in particular a group ofyoung men known as Minor Threat. Mr Ian Mackaye's lyrics drive home a certain point that Straight Edge is a personal movement based upon anti-obsessive behavior. I have also seen Mr. Mackaye reiterate this thought in a muttitude ofpublications. On a "scene" lsvel, Straight Edge has generally been accepted as an anti-alcohol, anti-drug and anti-smoking movemen! often neglectful ofthe " no casual sex" clause attatched in the song "Out of Step." On a personal level I abstain from drugs/alcohol/cigarettes/casual sex, but generally, I am NOT against these forms ofescape/entertainment. I merely hope that people understand they reap what they sow. KtS 04. ln my opinion, *Straight Edge." is a totxl commitment to what you believe and it really gets my back up when I see kids getting into it as a trend. How do you feel about thrt? Willbreaker: Trendiness is next to Godliness as the short-lived influx of, "What Would Jesus Do," bracelets/stickers/shirts/etc would have me believe. Xing up because your best friend is seems no different to me than getting a pair of sneakers because your best friend has them: it's silly and most kids will grow out of it. Most of the kids who are Straight Edge becauie ofsome bizarre trend in their high school are still growing up and still have no idea who they are. It's not a shame, and it's not a bad thing, I just hope that these kids have leamed that there's more to life than a few smokers or a random fuck on the weekends.
KtS 05. Can you still see yourself still being, "Straight Edge," in 10/20 years time? Willbreaker: At this point in my life I tend to hope so, but again, I look back to 10 years ago- I was in seventh grade and I wasn't cemented to any sort of life structure aside from school. I didn't know where I was going or who I would be when I got there, but I didn't know that then. All I wanted to do was go hang out with the kids up the street. Now here I am at 23, not cemented into any sort oflife structure besides school. I know where I am going but I'm never quite sure ofwho I will be when I get there. All I can do llom here is try to be a better person, and I think that I'm constantly achieving that goal.

Thanks for that John, Now the political situation within the USA. How do you see this at the moment? How do you feel rbout Bush? The follow on question from thrt is where do you think he's taking the USA and I suppose the rest ofus? I meel' I've read that in the next 12 months or so the U.S. and the U.IC wiU target Iraq and try to dispose ofSaddam Hussain, what's your opinion otr that? Willbreaker: Bush has the amazing ability to get stupider with time. One of the lessons I was able to decipher from the ;hrl" S"pG;b"r I le mess is that Al-quaida ittacked the USA for putting infidels on Holy Ground. (aka ihe Saudi Peninsula.) In order to fight the terrorist network that merely wants us out oftheir business and offoftheir land, we're taking more troops and putting them on Holy Cround AGAIN! Prior to Mecca being the centre for the Muslim religion and culture, the centre was at Jerusalem and prior to that it was Baghdad. So here we are about to put troops in Iraq to depose a leader in a former centre of Muslim culture AND attempting to push a properly elected leader out of office, (Yassir Arafat) at the same time. And why is it that through all this, none of these soon-to-be-deposed leaders have mentioned that Mr. Eighty-Five Percent Approval Rating Bush is not exactly what one would call a PROPERLY ELECTED LEADER? Who is this guy, why did the Supreme Court place him in office and why is he trying to bait terrorists into attacking America again? In closing, do a memorial show for me when I die because of this moron. KtS 07. I don't really want to prolong this side of the interview but my opinion is that the tlSA get involved in other peoples matters and not always for the best What's your reaction to that flnd would you agree or not? Willbreaker: I think you've managed to hit the nail on the head, friend. I may not have all the facts and figures in front of me but I'd be very willing to place a wager that the USA is about 957o capable of closing itself offfrom the rest of the World (I'm talking financially, I whole-heartedly welcome immigrants) sucking all abroad sectors of military back in, and taking a very passive view with the rest ofthe world. There are currently no world leaders with Hitler-esque tendencies, and I believe that those are the only kind ofleader that must be taken out ofoffice by outside means. KtS O8. Anyway John, back to a lighter note, the recent CD-R that you sent me had some excellent stuff on it and I believe done by Don Fury. Tell me, when can we expect a release from you , or do you have something rlready?
Willbreaker: Yes, we in fact pooled our collective cash and spent l7 hours in two sessions at Mr. Don Fury's recording studio, Cyclone Sound. Five songs and a dump truck full of money later, Myself, Miss Carrie Kieczkajlo, Mr. Langendorf, Mr. Reinhardt and Mr. Fury all took a ride on Coney Islands World-Famous Roller Coaster, The Cyclone. would like to report that there were no in-band skirmished, in fact the support level and comraderie was almost shocking. Mr. Reinhardt and Mr- Fury did almost come to blows but they were in high enough spirits that they finally rode The Cyclone together. Those five songs will one day be a 7' release. We are currently discussing a friend ofours putting it out, so we'll see how that one runs.
I
KtS 09 I know you were once part of Say You Hate Me, what happened there, did you have any rcleases? Willbreaker: I mentioned say you hate me before, I suppose now.I must attempt to be more in depth. Say You Hate Me started in August on 1999, and continued on through until November 2000. I released an I I song Say You Hate Me 7' called, "Looking Forward," in September 2000, limited to 300 copies. We were also on a few compilation tapes and CDs. To the best of my memory those were as follows: Stranded On Lone Island CD (Extremely forgettable release, I wish we weren't on it), Choke On This Cassette (More HC orientated than Stranded... .. CD, and much better.), and the Defense 3-cassette box set (A good idea but poor in planning. It was a benefit for a women's shelter, but most ofthe bands sent in failed recording sessions, badlout ofprint demos and practice tapes because ofthe request for, "new, unreleased or out of print stuff." In our "Defense" [har har], we didn't have anything else recorded at the time except two walkman demos and a botched recording session. Maybe most of the other bands didn't either?).
KtS Ol0. I lirst came across S.Y.H,M on MP3.com, my opinion is that this service is excellent for bands that most of us would never get to hear, how do you feel about that? a wide range of bands on MP3.com that I don't think I would have heard elsewhere, most notably, Last In Line from Massacfusetts. They are getting pretty big over here in the "colonies" and I think I was lucky to come across their stuffwhen I did.
Willbreaker: I have personally come across
tsgl.!l!! What bands have influenced you in the past and lyhat do you listen to right now? Willbreaker: I love a lot of bands, fast hardcore stuffmostly. Our song writing is influenced by bands like Youth Of Today, Minor Threat, Orchid, Combat Wounded Veteran, Void, Chain Of Strength, His Hero Is Gone, Discordance, : Axis, etc. Lyrically, I think Cap n'Jazz is top notch and I'm starting to get into some hiphop like Cannibal Ox, Mr. Lif, Aesop Rock and EI-P.
S!!
What's the future for Willbreaker? Have you any plans for Europe? I'd love to come and see you play' here in the UIC
Willbreaker: Man, I would LOVE to go to Europe. I'd tove to tour the US too! Of course that's probably not on the cards for a while, at least. At the moment we are concentrating on the creation ofnew songs and talking about the release ofthe aforementioned 7' release.
$S!
Well John that's about it, except for is there anything you'd like to add, any last requests? Beforc I trke you to the firing squad...oops...getting carried away there. Willbreaker: FUCK United Record Pressing. They are currently holding the plates for a 7' I released indefinately because it contains movie samples. Everyone should also be on the look out for these bands: XfliesX, Abscissiott/Suburban Death Camp, An Albatross, A Bullet For The Family Traitor, Lumbergh, As Dead As Dreams,

Here's just a few that I know about. Juma printing 1'r floor, Trafalgar works, 44 wellington street, Sheffield, s1 0t14 272 0915

Is,Punk a big thing in Brazil or vcry much
underground?

the saine as in Eirgland. Originat Punk from the early years is on the underground even though it has influenced the big pop-rock bands. Almost no punk bands can livejust with music in Brazil because the scene is pretgr conholled by the majors, much more than in the USA for example but we have many followers which means records iell out and if s common to get 30G500 people at shows. At some ipeciai dates punk festivals fill houses with spuq" foi up to 1000 people who Can'only Cffotd to pay a small amounl but the cost ofrentrng professional equipment is also highJy expensive (bought:,in dollars from the USA and Europe; that the lucre are not enough to pay for real iachets. Jpu are an infamous band that hardly ever plays heie like Dead Kennedy'! Buizcocks, Varukers etc, people will iavC, their mbney all year and pay the high price because the bands that have been going for 20-25 y"urs are uery Uig h'"r". That's how Buzzcocks plays forjust 1000 people and gets.enough money for flights, great hoiels..food and money"to spend and everything else. HOLIDAYS IN THE SUN (UK 2OO2}
Blackpool Winter Gardens. Well, would you Adam an' eve-it, its that time of year, mid summer, time for a quick Holiday in the Sun packed.my Mrs and Kids off on a proper holiday its onto the Btackpool .again, so having bound Train I jump. 4 and a half hours later and my ablutions done iti off down the boozer lo meei a few mates for a preananged drink, luckily t9r Pub was like just a little more than 2 minutes from my B&B so that ine !!9 was easy enough. Lise & Jim, Watford Jon, Glenn Halfman, and Micky Fitz are there aiready and evidently already a few beers up. on me so I got to undertake some serious drinkage if t'm to cltin up with that lot (nol a hopel), a few beers, a couple of laughs, exchanges of fond memories, still failed to get a beer out of Fitzy tho, we've known each other nigh on 20 yearl and there's t*o tninisitraiierain constant 1) Mick never buys a round, and 2) when he's out of it he still cant remember m-y name from one day to the next, stone me mate its nice to be appreciated!!! Then calling for scran onihe way (why did Watford Jon run like a commonwealth sprinter into that Sex Shop and ihat was he doing *nile in' there is a mystery to me but the explanation "l thought it was an independent Record ship we _still deal with" still doesn't hold much water) ils off to the venue for me ticket and so ends the clearest iart of the whole weekend, I never realised how much I must have imbibed until I sat to write this up and noticed there are glaring gaps in this tale of wonder and bewilderment so bear with me cos' obviously 'Benny The Senile years'are already well set. Friday. Despite being in the venue_a good hour before the gig was due to start I still managed to miss me old mates FOREIGN LEGION. Fucking hell I don't know how I managed to do that, I certainly hadn,t passed out anywhere, and I don't think I was in a pub at that time. Perha-ps I was eating. Anyway, l,ve heard on good authority (lan Retaliator) that they played a good strong set mixing old ma-teriat with new stuff from the recently released ''What goes around" CDand were is good ajhe'd ever seen them before.

consistentry brittiant and very entertaininq r."uyknow how to Rock it when they, vea mind to. With a newish Guitarist on show it was the usual tight set and R77 never disappoint, riiif grossly under rated by promoters outside of the UK I think itJ definitely about time tfrls udno gbt chance to raid the Venues across the Alt_1ili:_r_? come on you yanks, sort it fucking out.
i
Now this is where my head really gets fucked over, I was really looking forward to seeing MENACE, and I was gonna drop in and see VlcE SQUAD too if I had a moment. Un-tortunatety a tale went round that both were stuck on the M6 and neither could make it on time. I went for a wandir around, I saunter into oneof the other stage, there, playing is a Band who looked like VICE SQUAD, lt sounded like VICE ^ SqUAP' but it couldn't possibly have been VICE SQUAD cos VICE SQUAD .oridn't make it coutd Gy? Confused and bemused I returned to the venue l'd been in before and there was some band playing BUTTCOCKS covers, so I went to the bar for a couple of beers then someone said that uCE bOUAb were here, and yes it was them I'd seen. So I went to see if I could catch the end of their set but when I got back, there was no sight nor sound of VICE SQUAD. Fucking hell was someone playing with my head, had someone spiked my drinks with Bassett's Sherbet Di-p or had I really entered into some overtly surreal episode of the "Twilight Zone',? _ l,ll never know!!!
At last a chance to see this much roured punk band, good set and rhey gave it one hundred percent. Very impressive but the vocalist does tend to give ii iire gr""i ;l his attitude ruined the performance for me, unfortunately while having-a chat wii-h him at"r,,and .sort of the bar I mentioned it and he was visibly taken aback, sorry mate, it wai meant to be constructive but either what I said (and you did ask what I thought) came out wrong or the point was lost in translation.

BEERZONE Another great Band who never fail to entertain. Very energetic and very funny BEERZONE deserve all the positive acclaim being meted upon them these days. Lain is a fucking lunatic, he always has been and whenever they finish the set you sort of half expeci men in white coatls to run on and slap him into a straight jacket. They never do tho.
.
The magnificent GONADS not so glorious *,fr?H,?3 r^ tive circuit. Not that it was Bushels or the Bands fault, they tried hard enough but were hampered by a poorly set up sound system and by the
barracking from a small but hostile section of the crowd. Th'ey 6attleit on Uiavety anO ptayed great a set
which included classics such-as "Tuckers Ruckers", "GonadgTheme", "l lost ,y tor" to a UK SUB", "Oi! ._ Nutte/', "TNT" (l think), 'Alconaut", as well as my two faves, "British steel,'and 'whats thestory (Englands Glory)". \y'y'hich were made even better by two lovelies who Oal anA the Lads on loined .t.g" for a blatently Patriotic Flag waving session which upset some of the mentalist pC hecklers and Can throwers even more - fucking heil, if you cant take a joke
just fuck off out.
UK SUBS Some occasionally say that the UK SUBS live show can be a bit stale, but that's definitely not the case now its been revitalised by the new stuff from the excellent "Universal" Album. Charlie Harper would p.lay a gig in your Back Garden if you asked him to and lt doesn't matter to the UK SUBS wnetner ttrey play in front of 500 people or 15 they'll always give One Hundred percent. just I hope l,m still punking it like Charlie*wtren I'm 60!
