04 POUGHKEEPSEED Modular Bioremediation 2016 Fall Urban design Studio II Instructor: LEE ALTMAN/ CHRIS KRONER/DAVID SMILEY Team: Jinbao Liu; Wanpeng Zu; Linshu Huang Site:Poughkeepsie , New York In the Hudson Valley, there is a higher density of Superfund and browneld sites compared to the rest of the country. Poughkeepsie has 25 superfund or browneld sites. Polluted sites create environmental, health and economy injustice in both the neighborhoods and the region. The strategy is based on the time of the bio-remediation process which divides into three periods: remediate, monitor and sustain. At first, we focus more on the temporary exible design. As the decreasing of the contaminated level, we would gradually add more functions, such as training center, nursery and workshops. Finally, after cleaning up the sites and providing job opportunities, our

05 Revitalizing the Dead Sea 2017 Spring GSAPP water urbanism studio Instructor: Kate orff Team: lve Daiyue; Zu Wanpeng; Zhu Zhaoyu Role: concept design, 3D modeling ,plan drawing, model makeing Site: Dead Sea, Jordan Jordan is one of the most water-scarce country in the world. Its current water distribution system is centralized and of low efficiency, following a hierarchy that leads to the segregation between agriculture ,urban settlement and tourism systems. The project introduces medical plants which originally from the dead sea area into the large picture as a trigger to develop new types of agriculture and tourism economy. Medical cultivation and medical tourism are proposed to be expanded in the area and will be used to fill in the gap between these segregated systems and weave them together as a continuous, sustainable one piece landscape and a win-win economic chain.

Healing Hotels & Medical Farms The units located on the higher, Eastern area consist of healing hotels and medical farms. Run-off water from the upper terrace is collected by the retaining wall and gathered by the tank underground to irrigate the medical farms and preserve the area on the lower terrace. Healing hotels are built by the retaining walls, and narrow courtyards are inserted between the two for ventilation and cooling purposes.

Medical Pools Taking advantage of the Dead Sea’s unique healing properties, mud pools, salt pools and water pools that have different healing effects are arranged in different locations according to their distance from the Dead Sea shore. All of them are accessible to tourists as well as the local community. Retaining walls are used to redirect water and prevent water from entering the mud pools and sand pools. All the water from the pools will eventually return to the Dead Sea.
