Allegorical Field-North Shields Metaphor Proposal

Page 1

Inspired by North Shields, I fabricated a seascape as a metaphor to represent our utopia/maze/dystopia.

light from outside world seen from underwater - utopia

sea water - maze

dark deep sea - dystopia

fish - human being

1.Due to environmental pollution, fish lived in dirty dark water. They viewed the outside world where the light comes from as their utopia.

2 Following the light, fish swam hard upstream and saw beautiful golden shore and breast-shaped land representing the great mother nature. The fish had an illusion that it has found its utopia.

3.The fish ran aground on the shore and gradually died in imaginary pleasures. What it thought of as a utopia is a dystopia, and the light seen through the maze of the sea water didn't bring it the freedom it yearned for.

4.But this tragedy didn’t stop the fish from yearning for utopia. Although they are in a dystopia they rely on, they keep chasing the light underwater to guard their hope in their mind. They think it's water that traps them, but they don't know that the real maze is their ludicrous delusion.

Even if the water is polluted, fish cannot leave the water; Even if Mother Nature is polluted, human beings cannot leave mother nature.

People either die in a utopia with false happiness, struggle in a maze in confusion, or enjoy pain in a dystopia without giving up the yearning for ultimate beauty. In my view, the utopia of human beings is being in harmony with mother nature and being honest to themselves.
