‘Architecture for me is collection of contextual narrative, history, the people their stories & activities which then helps us creating a spatial expression using these parameters. Every place is unique in its own way leading to a unique architectural intervention.’ Through this Internship I am looking forward to learn, explore and understand the execution of these ideas in the practical world.

Common Ground An Interactive Arena for Migrant workers and people of kohima
Design Project Sem- VI Site - L- Khel, Kohima, Nagaland Guide - Vandhana Ranjit Singh
Project Brief -
What can Migrants offer the city and what does the city offer it back ? The idea of the institute is to encourage the interaction of migrant workers and the local people & craftsmen of kohima as these migrant workers play a major role in development of Kohima but are often excluded and not included to be part its tradition. The locals in kohima are influenced by Koreans and Japanese culture but often forget their neighbouring country mates from Bihar and Assam. Programmes Building workshops and training centres become the heart of the Institute where in the interaction and sharing of techniques , ideas and culture take place between the Migrant community and local Craftsmen. The institute has administrative block for migrants which will run under the governance of Kohima Village Council (KVC). It also has a bank which becomes a co-operative and Dormitories to house the needy migrants. Desgin Strategy The approach of designing the Institute is that it reflects the programme and the art of making a building. The institute will showcase different materials and its construction technique build by migrants and local Craftsmen themselves. There are existing trees on site which are not cut and used for landscaping and forming the private & public courtyards. The site has a gradual slope of 1:10 along the main street and a steep slope of less than 1:2 opening to the ground. Thus the interface between street & site and interface between the ground & the site become the interactive zones and activate the Khel. The site also acts as a shortcut between two streets and between street and ground. The idea of structure is that it will have a permanent solid formwork and some temporary walls and openings which will keep changing and bringing in new up-gradation by the workers and craftsmen.

Learning Annex Aiding existing schools in Mumbra
Design Project Sem- V Site - Rashid Compound,Mumbra, Thane Guide - Apurva Parekh & Sandeep Menon
Project Brief -
Affliction - Pulchritudo Scelerata (Accursed Beauty) People watching a beautiful place, person or thing might tend to develop ugliness within them. The Person move away from that place or person in order to not spoil its beauty. The brief was an affliction which was supposed to be interpreted in dense muslim ghetto of Mumbra. Thus the site and programme was chosen according to affliction Interpretation Children in the informal settlement of Mumbra leave education at primary level and choose odd jobs to earn money. Schools and educational Institutions are Beautiful source of knowledge but these children gradually tend to move away from schools as they dont feel it is worth to learn . Programmes An attachment to schools of informal settlement of Rashid Compound which aids and enhances the students of settlement to join schools, where school is no more only of classrooms but with other spaces that intrests them like science & computer lab, art workshops, playground, amphitheatre and library. Desgin Strategy Design approach was to make annex fit within the context of informal settlement and not overpower the existing schools. The idea of building was that it wraps itself as a skin and forms the spaces within it. Brick was chosen to be the primary material as it complimented the existing context. Exploration through fins, jalis, niches, seatings, cut-outs were done to form spaces within the skin.

Affordable, Cyclone resistant and Sustainable house in Sunderbans
Search Competetion 2020 Site - Birajnagar, Gosaba, Sunderbans Group - Yash Dodiya, Siddhesh Godambe Darshita Malaviya, Anav Sharma
Project Brief -
Design a homestead for a family in Sunderbans against the backdrop of widespread damage caused by super cyclone ‘Amphan’ in may 2020 to contibute to the society at large. Site Conditions The site is located besides the main road which runs alongside a tributary in the vast delta of Sunderbans. It is surrounded by farmlands which are distinguised from each other by boundaries which have a thick cover of trees and shrubs. Desgin Strategy The main aim while designing the house was to protect the house from frequent flooding and cyclones by uplifting the structure from ground to allow the water to pass away and making the house permeable to allow wind flow through it. The house has two blocks segregated with courtyard between them and connected with semi-covered passages and a pond enclosed within these blocks. Ground floor has the public spaces which includes their shop , courtyard for interaction and cattle shed, while the floor above has the private spaces connected with staircase in the courtyard. The passage on the ground floor extends into the pond such that it gives them a feeling of small island within their house. This small gesture acts as a recreational space. The roof is divided into triangles which helps in breaking the sheet into smaller parts that will not allow roof to blow away during heavy winds.

Boys Hostel
Boys Hostel for Department of Social Justice
Government Competetion Project Site - Baramati, Pune Intern at firm Studio 888, Sangli.
Project Brief Designing a hostel for 100 boys of Department of Social Justice, Baramati.
Hostels are short term accommodation facility for migrants who come out of their town for education, job and employment opportunities. It helps in providing common areas and communal facilities. Programmes Apart from Bedrooms the hostel also required space for indoor games, gymnasium, dining, TV room, Library, Office and common room. Being a government project competetion, the building area was mentioned and explorations were done within those limitations. Desgin Strategy The plot is linear (length thrice than its width) with the area of 5500 sq.m. The main idea for designing the building began with having the public and private courtyards with pergolas being the semi open spaces. East and west facades are the longer facades , that’s where rooms are placed on either sides with the huge Jali screens that create beautiful play of light patterns throughout the day. The north facade has huge brick fins with glass openings within them to maximise the light coming in. Library is placed here to create a lit environment for studying. The two huge brick walls with slits at the entrance of the hostel helps in creating a welcoming gesture for the students who are away from their families and town . A public courtyard at the entrance is for students to play and allow visitors to interact. While the inner courtyard (private) at the centre becomes an arena for interaction within the students, a space to organise some events, a space where all of them could assemble.

Karma & Artificial Intelligence Imagination of a Utopian World
Design Project Semester - III Guide - Sonal sancheti
Project Brief -
Visualising and designing a Utopian world
In current world , money is found to be the ultimate problem for any situation . Everything which is done now is related to money . It’s hunger have made people do wrong things and people don’t actually do what they love .
Karma and Artificial Intelligence
In this Utopian city , money is abolished and is replaced by points system . These points will then increase or decrease on the basis of deeds of the people . To put a check on point system , Artificial Intelligence is introduced which will help in recording every person’s points . Thus , it will be a city where people will be rewarded for their work and not by money . A city which will work on karma. Utopian City The structure of city has an idea of connecting roads and flyovers inspired by the symbol of karma showing infinite connectivity .The settlements are build around it in form of small societies . These societies form 1 community . Each community has area of 1 to 2 sq. Km and population of 2500 to 3000 people . Working of a module A house which will analyze your deeds and daily activities and respond it in architectural way . It has concept of moving rooms , walls and slabs to change the spatial quality within the house . The spaces change according to persons deeds . If a bad deed is done , the spaces get smaller or can also go under the ground (depending on the deed). And for good deeds , the spaces expand and also the luxuries get added accordingly . Thus , your house itself will promote you , in a way to have control on bad karma .
