CHAIRMAN, YAYASAN KELAB-KELAB ROTARY MALAYSIA Dear friends, Firstly, I must apologise for the inactivity of our Yayasan Kelab-Kelab Rotary Malaysia or YKKRM. You may know that the main reason is due to the MCO or Movement Control Order due to the Covid-19 Pandemic striking our nation when we are not able to have any physical gatherings. Thus, all meetings are suspended.
The second is that we have yet to receive the approval from the government authorities on our submission for approval of our new Trustees. We now have only 5 official Trustees and await the approval of 10 more. The good news is that the Income Tax Department has approved the 10, and we are now awaiting approval from the Companies Commission Malaysia and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs. We will try to have our Trustees’ Meeting to approve a few critical proposals in the next 2-3 months. We have also planned to have our Annual General Meeting after that Trustee’s meeting.
Past District Governor Dr Paul CK Lee
In the meantime, we are aware that the clubs are requesting us to activate our Support Grants Program which we have temporarily suspended. We understand the frustrations of our clubs in not being able to utilise our Support Grants. Rest assured, we will actively look into this matter. We hope to commence full function in the next 2-3 months’ time. We seek your patience and understanding.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic striking our nation, we are not able to have any physical gatherings.

DG TEOH KWAN SWEE ROTARY CLUB OF BUKIT BINTANG DISTRICT GOVERNOR RI D3300 RY2020-21
Hailing from very humble origins, Kwan Swee, or fondly referred to as KS, was born in 1952

into a big family of 10 siblings in Tanjung Malim, Perak. The family was resettled when he was very young to a place called Chui Chak New Village. This is the place where he was bred and he has lots of fond memories and a strong sentimental attachment to the place. He likes the simple lifestyle, the rivers, the paddy fields, the orchards and everything there and he makes it a point to visit his home village whenever he can find time for it.
EDUCATION He started his primary school education in the only Chinese school in Chui Chak. Thanks to subsidies from Lee Foundation, he went on to do his Lower Secondary School Education in Langkap and then his upper secondary school education in Teluk Intan. After his Form Six from SMK St Anthony, he managed to obtain a Perak State Scholarship to further his studies in the University of Malaya. As a student, he was an athlete, a school prefect, a scout, a school librarian, a debate team member and a school representative in the National Quiz organized by the Economics Department of University Malaya. He was the only “kampong” boy to have gone to university then and has been regarded as the role model in the village until today. His passion to help those with financial challenges and to provide educational opportunities wherever possible to those underserved and marginalized communities is deep rooted in his heart, having gone through such experiences and challenges in life.

PROJECT PARTNERSHIP WITH YAYASAN MYKASIH MALAYSIA FOR COVID-19 RELIEF IN SABAH Article contributed by AG Abbas Ezzi of RC Muar Project partnership and networking are some of the key elements of a successful humanitarian project and also what Rotary is all about, especially in times of difficulties and challenges. Yayasan Kelab-Kelab Rotary Malaysia (YKKRM) not only provides funding but also, at times, becomes the window through which it is a catalyst for cooperation between Rotary clubs in Malaysia and other NGOs seeking to tap into our network. In December 2020, the nation saw an explosion of Covid-19 cases in which the state of Sabah was one of the worst affected states in the country.
14 | JANUARY • MARCH 2021
We witnessed Rotary clubs around Malaysia swinging into immediate action providing relief, cutting across district lines. YKKRM connected Yayasan MyKasih Malaysia with Rotary clubs in the districts of Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Sandakan & Penampang to provide relief in the form of groceries worth RM100 to approximately 400 families. These are people whose livelihoods were badly affected and many are from the interior parts of Sabah. The totalcash value of the project was RM40,000 and Rotarians put in many valuable manhours.
YKKRM Coordinators, Club Presidents & Rotarians did due diligence in making sure the assistance given reached the needy recipients.
