1 CUBIC PAVILION Expo Pavilion 2020.Dubia Prof. Ingrid paoletti Oct. 2017
“Traditionally, one-piece pop-ups are intricately cut and folded to create sculptures of great complexity. However, the intricacy of these constructions breaks the card into many small feats.” Cut and fold techniques for pup-up designs Paul Jackson
Study of Different Geometries

Design Procedure
Folding as a Starting Point By considering characteristics of paper as a material and applying different techniques on it, new geometries have been found. Discovering new potentialities of paper as material leads the project to the point where applying those forms and geometries on the design procedure of pavilion, seemed to be convenient and worth trying. After considering different sorts of geometries, cube was chosen as the cell in the design procedure as there are different features which make it appropriate for designing approaches. Cubic Hinge Apply simple techniques such as fold and cut, will change the behavior of paper as new opportunity to be considered from an architectural point of view.
Cellular Growth By considering 3 options for the shading as: • Cover as a shade • Roof as a shade • Building as a shade
Selected Project
Building as a Shade Climate in Dubai, considering the shading for pavilion is a crucial part of design procedure.

POST-EXPO
Technical Data
Expo is known as a temporaryexhibition which normaly takes around 6 months to beheld. Accordingly there is an opportunity to design another characteristic for the building in order to respond to the situation of post expo (the time after the exhibition is fi nished) because most of the time the site for expo will change into a useless spaece, when the exhibition is over. Based on this notion, We decided to leave two main parts of the pavilion e trance and exit elements), after EXPO,as monumental elements.
According to the folding basis of our design procedure, a dynamic facade is designed for the pavilion which will effect enterior and exterior spaces at the same time as by changing the movements of the designed elements, a change in facade is visible while the interior space also is affected by this movement.
The aim was to make interaction between people with different cultures and nation by their similarities, which they have understood based on the collective unconscious. Through this way, people are more interested to visit other pavilions andtest their data of similarities to make interaction. Step by step, there is a kind of data transferring by visitors, unconsciously theyare analyzed based on psychological questions and answers.

Based on the modular design of the pavilion and sustainable objectives of the course, selection of materials for structure is important from two points of view: - weight and dimensions (for transporting material to the site) - Saving highest possible amount of energies for the pavilion Due to this notion, we considered wood as the structural material for two kind of spaces with different scales: thick wooden timbers as the structure for entrance and exit elements (yellow) and narrow wooden timbers.

Pavilion Context The attempt was to design a flexible and responsive space for people in expo which can involve people and architecture to each other in the same way the architecture shows us the trace and impression of time and people’s behaviour.Based on our theme of the pavilion, there are two main exhibition halls and one interaction space as a fi nal result of our case study.

The idea of sloped roof comes from traditional pitch roof in China with steps and details which bring an open and green space for travelers. The south part is the entrance of boats and north side each to the bus station. A restaurant and post office are located in the first and second floor.

3 Bring Back Better Amatrice, Italy
Stefano Boeri, Urban design Studio. Oct. 2017
Post-Traumatic Urbanism Amatrice 6,2 magnitute , august 2016, earthquake in central Italy
uncontrollable nature brought few seconds which changed the centuries of life. two years of blank in collective memory of survivals to forget or to remember the earthquake. it is a post traumatic urbanism project that aims to go back what we have lost, and bring back better than before , bring back together, building the future together, to become the symbol of resilience after earthquake, symbol of reconstruction.

Fractions collaboration between fractions and center of Amatrice
Amatrice will be one of the main stops of the food loop according to the food and cultural road network. the center of Amatrice will work with collaboration with four main fractions in a — hierarchical polarised system. these four main fractions -which have the potential to improve because of gastronomic and cultural lines- were chosen as subcenters. of a new urban network of Amatrice. they will be improved with new functions related to a different type of tourism depending on local strengths of fractions and will work as an attraction point to catalyze the reconstruction process of Amatrice.

Crater as One Unique City without institutional borders
Re-thinking the territory as a multi-centered reverse city which works together with the collaboration of sectors and aggregation of a variety of 4 regions. Natural park and mountains in the center surrounded by sub-centers with the richness of differences. Amatrice has the role as one of the main intersection point of the new crater. Amatrice, in the center of the crater, using the advantage of gastronomic roads, olive roads and cultural roads passing throw Amatrice.

PERFORATED CORTEN STEEL Perforated corten steel is included into the design as a playtful element on the facades as well as an extra source of daylight
CORTEN STEEL Weathering steel has increased resistance to atmospheric corrosion when compared to other steels. This provides the use o f material for sustainable design choices and also blend in with the structure to give a feel of old and new together.
CONCRETE Concrete is an artificial conglomerate stone made essentially of portland cement, water and aggregates.
GLASS Glass has been extensively used to allow maximum transparency and give an overall feeling of the structure floating above the green mounds.
