Presentation 2 Presented to: Dr. Yehia Serag Presented by: Nuraan Sherif Zena Zahran Nada Hesham Hager Ehab
In this presentation, we chose three scenes from 3 of our favourite movies to observe 5 basic elements of art from each one and they are:
1st movie: Home alone 1 This movie is about a bratty 8-year-old Kevin McCallister who acts out the night before a family trip to Paris, so his mother makes him sleep in the third floor of the house. After the McCallisters (in a rush) mistakenly leave for the airport without Kevin , he wakes up to an empty house and assumes his wish to have no family has come true. But his excitement fades right away when he realizes that two burglars , Harry and Marv, plan to rob his house on Christmas eve, and that he alone must protect the family home and on goes his Christmas adventure!
This picture is from one of the final scenes in the movie, and one of the elements that captured my attention right away was the dominance of the colours Red and Green, not only on the wallpaper behind the family, but also their choice of clothing giving off their Christmas vibes. Not to mention, the contrast of hilarious expressions where some are pleasantly surprised, while the others are mostly o fused a out hat’s happe i g i fro t of the . Also, I’d say there is a balance in the photo above as no part is heavier than the other in the way they are standing , I guess the director did a great job in this scene! Moreover, a sense of unity is clearly visible in the picture between the family, as well as harmony where I a perso ally say e erythi g goes ell together a d it’s just perfe t !
2nd Movie: Inside out Riley is an 11-year old child who loves her parents and cares about all her friends , Riley later has to move to a new town leaving behind her old life. All this change was just too much for our 11-year old frie d ut fortu ately her frie ds ai ly represe ted i joy ill ake sure she’s goi g through this change with maximum happy vibes , this movie treats our inner voices and emotions as people who also have effective roles in our lives and have their own lives, problems and conflicts .
This scene in my point of view contains several basic elements of arts which could reflect off the emotions of the character. The harmony between the dark background and the intensity of the situation was able to reflect the extent of severity and makes us share the fear the character felt back then. Furthermore, repetition was noticed where these crystal balls where present in billions all around, dominance was best observed in my point of view in the glow emitted from the character where she outstands the dark was eye catching , monotony was present too as the s e e did ’t o tai u h elements other than the character and these crystal balls. Contrast was best presented between how much light the character emits and the darkness surrounding her .
3rd movie: The Exorcism of Emily Rose A young girl called Emily dies under the care of her priest. She believed she was possessed. After medical care ceased to work she turned to her faith and she dies and the priest goes on trial for her death. Thus the story of Emily Rose, told by those in the trial and the priest who watched her through her possession.
This scene captures 5 of 7 of the basic elements of art. First harmony was best observed between the low lights and the cold and fear-filled expressions of the actor, Balance was also an element where the right side of the photo is in similarity with the left side. No to forget, movement is a factor of the scene where the Emily is slowly limping down the lane , scale and proportion is noticed between the candle and Emily along with her background . Contrast is clearly shown between the dark seats and wall and the candles lighting the way.
The End
Thank you for watching!

Movement : You can see the avengers jumping and flying in the air which guides our eyes to follow them to their destination. Dominance : I think that the viewer’s eyes are naturally drawn to Hulk (the green creature). Others will think that the white snow is the most dominant element in the scene. Contrast : Of course we see that there is a contrast between the white color in snow and the other colors (black, red and green) Scale : We can see that Hulk is much bigger in comparison with the other team.
Unity : The elements in this scene are correlated and harmonious where the hands of the mob unites and correlates the whole picture together which makes it a complete work of art Contrast : It is present through warm colors of the mob and cold colors of the queen’s clothes Balance : This scene is balanced where there is no side heavier than the other. The queen is in the middle and her people surround her in a balanced way. Dominance : The queen stands out and dominates the whole scene and therefore the eye is drawn to her. Harmony : We can say that the whole seen is harmonious and all its elements (the queen and her people) are arranged in a pleasing way to emphasize the similarities and relation between them.
Contrast : We can find a huge contrast between the red and black color. Dominance : It’s obvious in the picture that the red color has the most presence among the other colors, therefore, it’s the first thing that captured my eyes. Balance : We can see that the right side is equal and similar to the left side so that no part overpowers the other. Repetition : The cards soldiers are organized and repeated in the same way and number as if they are mirrored. Unity : The picture is full of several elements which produce a sense of wholeness and harmony.
Hierarchy : The picture shows a noble man whose clothes, pose and his position on a higher level indicate that he is a leader and a person of importance. Dominance: The first thing that captures our eyes is the red color because of its brightness : in a picture full of plain colors. Unity : We can see the picture as a harmonious and a complete piece of art in which all the people are cheering and looking in the same direction. Contrast : We can notice that there is a contrast in the rankings between the public and the noble man by the way he is dressed, and contrast in power as he is holding a sword.
