Why should you switch? “It’s the Co-op's responsibility to keep up to date on the latest sustainable options.”

- Julie Loke, Co-op Manager

“Absolutely. That’s why we push towards the more sustainable alternatives.”

- Robert Kerr, Savemart Manager in response to awareness of the environmental consequences of plastic and paper bags.

• Paper and plastic bags has been and are continually becoming more of a burden on environmental wellness. This negative impact is by the deforestation that occurs with the manufacturing of paper bags, and the toxic breakdown of plastic bags. • Bagasse is an eco-friendly choice alternative, for bagasse is completely compostable and biodegradeable. Unlike plastic, bagasse is an all natural material that is toxic free. • The cost of bagasse is currently comparable with wood-pulp paper, but is predicted to become cheaper if with greater demand and supply.

We seek to raise awareness among grocers and shoppers alike about the eco friendly alternative material named bagasse.

BAGASSE?

• Bagasse is currently being used for biofuel and disposable tableware, but a good portion of bagasse is ultimately disposed due to the low demands and this wasteful practice only contributes to pollution.

With the spread of knowledge on the superior benefits of bagasse, the eradication of paper and plastic is eminent. The sucessive positive impact on the environment will encourage more grocers to provide bagasse bags. Shoppers care increasingly more about the

environment and it affects their choice of supermarket. Their demand for a better solution will ultimately fuel the switch. Providing baggase bags is a smart move and a step toward being environmentally responsible and helping customers to act accordingly.

BAGASSE VS PAPER

Paper and Plastic bags take a big toll on the environment. These days, shoppers seek to be as ecologically responsible as possible. They are looking for a solution, and that solution is bags made from bagasse.

Type studies became necessary after test printing. Type was too large and the letting needed some help.

Bagasse fiber can easily be molded into a light weight, oil and waterproof paper, perfect for grocery bags. Processing requires less water and fewer chemicals to process the fiber than wood-pulp. Since bagasse is actually a by-product of the sugar industr y, no further resources will be wasted cultivating a crop already in use.
