INFO PANELS LEGIBILITY LETTER FORM COMPONENTS:
Introduction to letterfom terminology through diagrams.
EXAMPLE PANEL:
Different typefaces compared by cap size, x height 2 different type faces of same size & placement in paragraph examples. Same typeface in 2 examples of text, one larger and one significantly smaller.
INTERACTIVE PANEL:
Letters should be:
basic, simple medium weight

Things to consider:

compare typeface legibility by x-height, counter size, letter spacing, stroke width using a touch screen.
READABILITY TEXT SPACING/PLACEMENT BASICS:
Introduction to terminology.
Text should have:
good letter & word spacing leading
EXAMPLE PANEL:
Same typeface in 2 examples of body text, only one utilizing readability principles.
Things to consider:
amount of text context of design current design/type theory eye-movement (study)
INTERACTIVE PANEL:
“where would you find this text”? pull out tabs that ask visitor to guess what type of publication the text is from based on the typeface/size/layout used.
CONNECTING LEGIBILITY AND READABILITY INTERACTIVE PANEL:
CONCEPT CONNECTION Legibility and readability guidelines exist to make the typeface “invisible” to the reader, emphasizing the content of the text. Principles of legibility and readability influence and re-inforce each other.
SERIF & SAN SERIF
Current convetions: serif is better for READABILITY of text. Reader preferrence / familiarity increase space b/w letters, aid to legibility most commonly used in book type settings.
Visitors can experiment and improve the readability/legibility of different types of text through a touch screen.
SERIFS AND LEGIBILITY DEFINITION PANEL:
Provide definitions and examples to serif and sans serif fonts.
INTERACTIVE PANEL:
Create a polling place that visitors can voice their opinions on which style of typeface they preffer. Results will be shown on a screen next to the lvoting location.

Choose from a variety of availble type components to create your “own”. Results will be emailed .
TYPEFACE PERSONALITY:
Ask viewer to choose which letter parts they find more esthetically pleasing from different fonts, and paragraphs of fonts.
Current convetions: sans serifs are better for LEGIBILITY of the simplicity of letterforms.
VISITORS TYPOGRAPHY WALL:
A computer and printing station available to visitors on which they can type up whatever text they want, choose a typeface, and it’s spacing, and print out the result.

Large typographic treatment of the section title of exhibit to strengthen the typographic theme. Visitors that printed out their results at the interactive station can pin them up on this large bulletin board and compare their type setting choices to other visitors. Introduction to terminology and concepts used in exhibit. Same typeface in 2 examples of body text, only one utilizing readability principles. A computer and printing station available to visitors on which they can type up whatever text they want, choose a typeface, and it’s spacing, and print out the result.
