IAN J TAYLOR VOLUNTEER CO-ORDINATOR HAFAN Y WAUN Cavo newsletter article I would like to introduce myself as the new Volunteer Co-ordinator at the MHA Hafan Y Waun care home in Aberystwyth. My name is Ian J Taylor and I have been given the opportunity by Cavo to write an article about myself and the opportunities for volunteers within the care home. I will start by telling you a little about the home. We are based in Waunfawr Aberystwyth on a beautiful plot overlooking the view of Pen Dinas and the sea. Hafan Y Waun Methodist Homes for the Aged is a charity and a subsidiary of MHA care group. Our mission statement is to improve the quality of life for older people inspired by Christian concern. The building offers 90 rooms for residents also 20 places in the day care centre, 40 of that is general nursing places and the other is 45 residential & dementia care places. At the moment we are looking for Volunteer Project Assistants, the purpose of that role would be to assist staff to meet the needs of residents, in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence. This can include helping staff with the day to day running of the home, befriending residents, helping staff on outings, social events, and much more. We would like to attract positive people who are approachable and empathetic towards elderly people. We also have opportunities within our gardens for general volunteer garden assistants to help with some of the more strenuous and clean up work. We have lots of opportunities for volunteers; if people are interested in a career in care for example, then volunteering would be a wonderful way to get that vital experience and some positive references to show
