We recommend that you book in advance, as many hostels are fully booked during busy periods. Length of stay may be limited to 14 days, but can be extended at the hostel managerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s discretion.

CHECK-IN As no two hostels are the same, check your destination hostel’s reception opening hours in the guide. If you plan to arrive early or late, let us know in advance so we can arrange things for your arrival. You’ll need to provide photo ID, or if this is not available, sufficient alternative authentication of identity.

WHAT TO EXPECT To make your stay easy, all YHAs provide linen, blankets and pillows free of charge (except for Wilderness Hostels). You can bring your own linen if you prefer, but sleeping bags are prohibited due to Australian health regulations. You will need to bring a towel.

AGE LIMITS YHA welcomes solo travellers, groups and families of all ages. If you are 16 or under you will need a parent/legal guardian aged over 21 to stay with you in a private room. I f you are 17 you can stay unaccompanied if you have a letter from your parent/legal guardian stating that they are aware you are staying at the hostel and that the hostel will not supervise your activities. Children under two stay for free – lucky things. However, please check with the hostel before you arrive or make a booking, as a few of our hostels aren’t equipped, or suitable for youngsters. Our grading system rates our hostels according to their level of facilities. YHA HOSTEL GRADINGS

Wilderness Wilderness hostels located in or near a bushland environment. These hostels: Have no resident staff. May need key to be collected in advance; Might only have cold water for cooking or washing; Have power for cooking and lighting; Provide basic cooking facilities; Have no more than 20 beds.

SUSTAINABLE HOSTELS FUND

YHA’s Sustainable Hostels Fund assists eco-projects in hostels.

When you make a booking on yha.com.au you can include a $1 contribution to this fund. All contributions are matched dollar for dollar by YHA. Each year, YHA completes a number of major projects using these funds including large solar power installations and greywater systems. These initiatives reduce the carbon footprint of many hostels in the network.

Conservation methods include rainwater tanks, greywater systems and low water use washing machines.

Usage is reduced by low energy lighting systems. Solar power units are at many hostels.

WESTERN CAPITAL Perth and its surrounds offer a bounty of historical, natural and unique attractions. Take a ferry to Rottnest Island where you can snorkel the reef and spot the native quokkas. Visit its markets for local goods and explore the old prison, before heading to the jetty for fish and chips. THE RED NORTH Begin your journey in Lancelin, close to Yanchep National Park and the Pinnacles. Lancelin is the place to be for surfboard or sandboard adventures.
