Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Garden Centre Magazine for Polhill Garden Centre,

Inside this edition you can find a plentiful amount of information on what you can find instore, including a section on monthly garden tips. With knowledgeable and friendly staff on hand in store to help with advice or inspiration, complemented by the huge variety of stock available, you will be sure to find what you need for your upcoming garden and/or home projects. This edition also includes many different informative editorials and alongside you will find local businesses whose services may just be what you are looking for.

We have also launched a digital copy of the magazine, available to view on your smart phone instantly. Dunbar Garden Centre is one of the most Southern garden centres in Scotland, attracting customers from both sides of the border. Ten years ago, we opened our doors for the first time and after much growth, we have developed into a multidepartment garden centre and restaurant and are now one of the fastest growing and most innovative garden centres within the area.

This independent, family owned business

has gone from strength to strength, with two other garden centres within our group – Berwick Garden Centre in Berwick-Upon-Tweed and Plantsplus Garden Centre, near Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.

All three garden centres are situated close to the A1 main trunk road.

Plants are what we do best. Our very impressive plant area is full of stunning displays that change almost weekly. Stocked full of high-quality produce, we pride ourselves on having a large variety of both common and unusual plants to suit all levels of gardening abilities. If you need any advice on plant care or gardening suggestions, ask our very knowledgeable plant team – they will be happy to help!

In our ’Grow your Own’ section you can find everything you need to grow your own fruit and veg at home – we have a large selection of trees, bushes, shrubs, seeds and bulbs. As well as any larger items you may need such as raised beds and greenhouses. We also have a large selection of garden sundries and tools, where you will find everything you need to look after and manage your garden space.

If you would like something that we don’t happen to have in stock, please get in touch and we can try our best to order it in for you.

Farm Shop

Bringing top quality, local produce to our community

We proudly sell a very wide variety of local products in our Farm Shop. Our range is so extensive you’ll be sure to be able to get everything you need for your weekly food shop in one place. Whether you are after meats or cheese, chocolates or cakes we ensure we provide the highest quality produce possible. Our talented inhouse bakers also package up their cakes and traybakes, so you can enjoy them from the comfort of your own home.

In our Farm Shop you will find lots of goodies and treats, which are perfect if you’re looking to send a gift to a loved one – or perhaps just treat yourself! We also create hampers all year around, for various different occasions. Our hampers can be altered and made bespoke to your needs.

As well as food, we stock a large number of wines, spirits and beers. Lindisfarne Mead, North Berwick Gin and Alnwick Rum are just a few of the well-known, local drinks we have to offer. We also stock wines from all over the world, you are

sure to find something for your weekend treat.

Alongside our Farm Shop, we also have our Cook Shop department. This is home to a huge range of kitchen utensils and gadgets, mugs and tableware, they all make lovely gifts or a beautiful addition to your own home.

Restaurant

Our thriving restaurant has been serving the community for over ten years. Whether you are after a spot of lunch or an afternoon coffee or tea and cake break, the staff will be only too pleased to assist. Using local produce where possible, our talented chefs have a large menu on offer as well as changing daily specials.

Our spacious and bright restaurant offers seating for up to 150 people. Enjoy your meal on our patio during the warmer weather, which is also dog friendly. And to keep the children entertained whilst you enjoy your lunch and a relaxing cup of tea, we have an onsite playpark where they can burn off some steam.

We’re well known for our extensive breakfast menu. Along with a traditional full Scottish breakfast you can also find options such as French toast served with back bacon and maple syrup and granola bowls, complete with Greek yogurt and berry compote.

For lunch we have everything from local beer battered haddock and chips, to lighter bites such as salad bowls and baked potatoes. We really want to make sure there is something for everyone, which is why you will find plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options on our menu.

Make sure to leave room for dessert as you won’t be able to resist our showstopping cake counter. Our in house bakers make sure there is a wide selection of fresh cakes and bakes daily. We recommend the gorgeous jam and cream scones!

Afternoon Tea

For special occasions we have our Afternoon teas and we have to say they’re picture perfect. Made up of a choice of sandwiches, homemade scones complete with jam and cream and a selection of homemade cakes and traybakes, all served with tea or coffee. Our afternoon teas make a super treat for special occasions. We also offer afternoon tea gift vouchers, which can be picked up from our restaurant.

If you don’t have time to stop by, with 24 hours notice we can have your afternoon teas ready and packed up for you to collect.

Pets & Aquatics

We are home to one of the largest pet stores within the area. We stock a large range of live animals and all of the regular care items that you will need to look after them. Aquatics, reptiles, rodents, and birds – we have the lot. You’ll also find everything you need to look after your furry friends. We also stock a large range of dog and cat food, toys to keep them engaged and treats for when they’re looking extra cute

Our aquatics range is very impressive – we have a huge range of fish, which is constantly being replenished. If there is a species we don’t stock, ask one of our team and we will try to order it in for you. If you’re just starting out or looking to upgrade your set up, we stock tanks, chemicals, and even aquatic plants.

Looking for your first pet? Our extremely knowledgeable team are happy to put together a starter kit for you, complete with everything you will need to look after your new best friend. We can also provide you with a care sheet and offer advice throughout your pet’s life.

You don’t need to own an animal to enjoy our pet department. Enhance the wildlife within your garden by purchasing bird tables and feed. We even stock bumblebee towers and hedgehog homes!

Clothing & Gifting

Whether you are buying for yourself or looking to treat someone, we really do have something for all ages - whatever the occasion may be. We stock many unique products from local gift suppliers and artists.

Our gift department is a stopping point for many during the school holidays. With lots of books, toys and puzzles we have plenty to keep the younger generation entertained and engaged. For those who enjoy self-care and relaxation we have toiletries and cosmetics for all. If you’re after something more sentimental we have a range of jewellery and glassware perfect for birthdays and anniversaries.

Within our gift department, we also stock a range of both modern and traditional homeware pieces. We keep up to date with the latest colour schemes and decoration, there is something to suit all styles.

Our clothing department is continuously growing to keep up with the latest trends. We stock a large range of menswear and womenswear. Whether you are shopping for your next event out or perhaps something to throw on when you’re gardening – we are sure to have you covered. As well as clothing we hold a good size selection of hats, shoes and accessories. For the Winter months (or perhaps Summer in this part of the UK), we have waterproofs and wellies available too.

We proudly stock some very well known names within the clothing industry such as: Hoggs of Fife – a high quality brand with an excellent reputation within the field-sports and farming community. As well as Jane Austin, a ladies’ fashion retailer providing you with looks to keep you glamourous all year round.

Furniture & BBQ

When the warmer weather makes an appearance, we all want to get out there and enjoy our garden. To many this means entertaining and dining alfresco with their friends and family. We stock a range of different furniture styles at different price points, to satisfy all tastes. From 2-seater bistro tables to 6-seater outdoor dining sets, there is something to suit all. For when the nights start to get a bit chillier, we have fire pits and chimineas available.

For when you’re entertaining, a BBQ is a great addition to your outside area. Again, with different sizes and price points, there is something to suit everyone. Along side this we stock fuel, and BBQ accessories so you can pick up everything you need in one spot. You could even pick up some sausages from our Farm Shop!

Pots & Hard Landscaping

If you’re looking to carry out bigger jobs in your garden, we have your requirements covered. Our hard landscaping department stocks fencing, paving and decorative aggregates. If you’re after advice or a helping hand with heavier items, ask our team for our ‘carry to your car’ service – we’re happy to help you out! For those final finishing touches we have an abundance of pots and stoneware, to jazz up your outdoor space.

Local Delivery Service

For those heavier items we have our ‘carry to your car service’. If you need some extra help, please ask a member of staff who will be happy to assist.

And for those items that don’t fit in your car, we offer delivery within a 20 mile radius for an additional cost, subject to distance.

We have gift cards for sale that can be purchased and loaded with any amount to be used in any of our three garden centres and restaurants; Berwick, Dunbar and Plantsplus.

At a Randolph Hill Nursing Home, individual care is everything. Let us introduce you to Jean. Jean grew up by the coast and, inspired by the ever-changing skies and landscapes, she loved to paint. By day, Jean put her eye for colour to good use and worked as a florist.
