The Undiscovered Country... From William Shakespeare’s Hamlet–The undiscovered country is a metaphorical reference to death. In his famous oration Hamlet questions our fear of death and how that fear, does make cowards of us all. This project used processing and Arduino to make an interactive piece that is constantly changing according to distance. In print people are able to face and question mortality. "Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once.

Of all the wonders that I yet have heard, It seems to me most strange that men should fear;

Seeing that death, a necessary end, Will come when it will come."

— William Shakespeare

Baby Clear BabyClear is a treatment or intervention pathway which begins in the NIHS in maternity services, but is followed through into the community using stop smoking services paid for by local councils. An infographic animation uses information and illustrations to help pregnant women understand clearly the risks to health such as speeding up the heart rate and increased blood pressure.

3D Type I discussed the influence of remarks and environmental changes, expressed the connection between climate change skepticism and global warming, and advocated for people’s looking at the problem objectively.

ISTD A Life's Work - Frutiger A typographic interpretation and response to an ISTD brief based on the life and works of Adrian Frutiger who passed away in September 10, 2015.

To Kill a Mocking Bird Through the young eyes of Scoutand Finch, Harper Lee explores with exuberant humour the irrationality of adult attitudes to race and class in the Deep South of the thirties.

Personal Statement I choose graphic design as my major because I have been very interested in painting since when I was very young, choosing this major for my graduate program would allow me to continue studying arts and design, which I believe would be helpful for me to become a designer. First of all, I have great passion for my profession. I have frequently communicated my ideas and design works with my teachers and fellow students, and have gone to the library or workshop on a daily basis. I like thinking in different ways and trying different design approaches. With particular interest in font design, typography and poster design, I’m keen to think about the story behind a design, explore in different books, and dare to make use of different artistic styles. In the summer of 2016, I got an internship in graphic design, which was a team project on UI design, and I was specifically in charge of visual design. This project allowed me to put what I have learned about graphic design into practice, such as how to typeset to facilitate reading, and how to select fonts, access the needs of users. In this project, it was a challenge for me to communicate with the product manager and customer, and being able to express my design ideas and customize tailored design solutions helped improve my design ability. During my third college year I also took part in a D&AD fundraising event. Yichao Zhang (Jack)

I have frequently gone to design exhibitions to observe different design genres and approach the frontier design ideas. I have kept myself updated on the technological advances as I think about the future and trends of design. Moreover, I often visit the design websites such as Design-Observer, itsnicethat and grafik, and read the design publications such as Eye Magazine, Real Review and Meggs History. In my graduate program there was frequent group work that allowed us to come up with different ideas and design in different approaches. In the course Advanced Digital Communication, I attempted to incorporate Arduino sensor and processing into poster design, which I found very

interesting; in my investigations I made frequent use of Primary Sources and Secondary Sources, which I consider as the most fundamental yet the most important part of my design. During the postgraduate study, I would like to discuss the relation between graphic design and human behavior. In my opinion, the most important thing in graphic design is communication that brings experience to people. I hope to use various media, such as video, font, media, graph, voice, light and shadow to interact with people and let them experience. These interaction methods are like different languages, media, or containers. These are used to communicate contents and express opposite opinions, and bring experience. People may get different ideas, opinions or even comprehensions, but they will all get their own experience from the project. I hope to develop some projects that involve people’s participation during postgraduate study through some interactive methods such as Arduino, processing. I learned graphic design during undergraduate study, so I hope to combine graphs with typographic interactively, and apply knowledge and techniques that I am adept at. In my graduation project, I discussed the influence of remarks and environmental changes, expressed the connection between climate change skepticism and global warming, and advocated for people’s looking at the problem objectively. Also, the 3d method was adopted to connect the audience with the project. I hope to make further researches in these fields during my postgraduate study.
