Selective focus is an editing technique that can be used to make specific objects stand out in a photograph. Without selective focus, this task can be tricky, but the selective focus technique makes it very easy. This is a standard technique for professional photographers. It will keep the selected object sharp and in focus, while the rest of the shot will have blurred edges and appear to be out of focus.

When I was five years old, I was different from other kids because I started wearing glasses at such a young age. Since my childhood, my vision has not been good. I must rely on my glasses to be able to see clearly and focus on anything. Staying focused is very important to me. I always believe that the way to success is to focus on things that I want to achieve. Enthusiasm, determination, and execution have allowed me to focus in my personal and professional life. This portfolio called Focus, is my collection of two years focusing on graphic design. Stay focused, go after your dreams and keep moving toward your goals. — James Todd Smith

The movie that I chose is Everest. This is an adventure, excitement and disaster movie. This is a true story from a group of people who are interested in mountain climbing. I used powder to create a letter form. Powder represents snow and ice. The shape of the letter form is incomplete and blurry because I wanted to convey an indefinable feeling, like you don’t know what unexpected things will happen in the next moment when you are climbing. I used black, gray and dark blue as my poster’s background colors, which are the colors of snow.

This is an app that gives attraction suggestions to travelers, and it will plan a complete schedule based on their travel days. In this way, people will not spend so much time on planing their itinerary, so they can have a wonderful trip. I used a minimalist approach to create the overall layout because of the large amount of content. Therefore, people can clearly see the detaisl. Blue and orange are two main colors of the app, because I wanted people to feel relaxed and pleasant when using this travel mobile app.

The goal of this particular project is to encourage people to reduce food waste. I created a brand which is called SaveFood. This is a brand that teaches people how to decrease food waste through various methods. I presented this series of posters in an abstract way. I divided the food into two sides, one is fresh and another is spoiled. What I wanted to convey was that if we didn't plan to eat food before the expiration date, it would cause serious food waste. Those graphic elements at the rear represented the money we wasted by wasting food.

Create a system that is the main core in the project. The type setting, colors, the imagery should be consistent in the annual report. Costco Wholesale is the company that I chose. The most challenging thing about doing the Costco Wholesale annual report was finding imagery. Because images of Costco are usually complicated and literal, I had to search for images that are more abstract and interesting to present the work. Based on Costco’s existing logo, I kept the blue and red as dominant colors. Therefore, people can precisely recognize this as an annual report for Costco.

The topic that I chose in this project is "Love Your Dog Forever". The idea that I wanted to convey was once you have them, you should take care of them. Don't let them become a wandering dog or a dog without people caring. I used warm and bright colors throughout the whole project because the interaction between human and dog is warm and lively. Imagery that I selected also focuses on people and their pets because I wanted to emphasize their emotion and communication.
