1.0 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE BUNGALOW The assignment is divided into two parts where the first part should be done in a group while the second part is an individual work. Working in a group of 6 members, each group is to design a 2 storey bungalow which consists of the components given by the lecturer. We are required to carry out structural framing for the building.

We have chosen the first building outline from Category A as the ground floor outline of our design and the fourth building outline from Category B as the first floor outline. Our proposed design consists of 1 master bedroom with a`ached bathroom,3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms , kitchen, living hall, dining area and store room.

From the informaLon on the structural plan drawings, each of us have to calculate and idenLty the slab system and load distribuLon for the beams and columns. We are required to calculate 4 different types beams and 2 different types of columns from both ground floor and first floor.

The site is located on flat ground in a residenLal area. The funcLon of the bungalow is as a house for family to stay.

4.0 Design Brief The material of the slab are reinforced concrete and bricks are used to construct the walls. SpecificaUons UBBL
 Reinforced concrete density = 24 kN/m3 Bricks density = 19 kN/m3 QuanLty Dead loads acLng on the Structure 1. Slab self weight = 0.15 x 24 kN/m3 = 3.6 kN/m2 2. Brick wall self weight = 150mm x 3000mm x 19 kN/m3 3. Beam self weight = 0.3 x 0.2 x 24 kN/m3 = 1.44 kN/m 4. Column self weight = 0.25 x 0.25 x 3 x 24 kN/m3 = 4.5kN QuanLty Live loads acLng on the Structure
According to UBBL, all residenLal buildings (bungalow) live load factor should be :Rooms : 1.5kN/m2 Toilet : 2.0 kN/m2
