Geography
Due to the constraints of the hot deser t climate in Egypt, the intention is to of fer peace and tranquillity for both the travelers and the locals. The solution depends on a cooling system that utilizes dif ferent forms of water.
The strategy aims to celebrate nature and deser t living. By turning t h e u n w e l c o m e o b s t a c l e i n t o a f o c a l f e a t u r e o f n a t u r a l b e a u t y, t h e space delights and inspires international guests while offering them life lessons about living as one with nature.

How can water be incorporated in a therapeutic and interactive way and promote experiential threshold that activates the existing landscape?
Ta k i n g i n s p i r a t i o n f r o m t h e v a u l t a n d arch of the existing building element, the threshold condition is emphasized by a rhythmic and recurring conge motif that incorporates a series of cooling m e c h a n i s m s t o e a s e t h e p ro g ra m m a t i c transition and bring comfor t. The division, unfold and rearrangement of the Conge form offers the experience unique to each section of the space, guiding the guest to circulate from the welcoming courtyard to an intimate and cooling resting space.
N
Outdoor spaces are valued. Encapsulating landscape into architecture, the back cour tyard ser ves as a space of continuity between interior and exterior, between groups and the individual.

URBAN LIVING RO 0 3 Taste is inter -subjective, especially when considered as a collectively negotiated agent of social-cultural g r o u p s . Ta s t e i s n o t o n l y a b o u t v i s u a l a e s t h e t i c s , but more so regarding behavior, in which we have a more broadly agreement upon. I saw these trends of so-called g o o d m a n n e r s and bad manners oppressive because the way one behaves in space is strongly restrained because of others’ surveillance and judgments. Urban Living Room transforms the plaza of the 60-story skyscraper at lower M a n h a t t a n’s 2 8 Liberty into a place f o r p u b l i c re s i s t a n c e through behavioral ‘bad taste’, critiquing conventional rules of social behavior. The intervention encourages a series of gestures disobeying posted rules in a provocative way for the benefits of opening up new possibilities. The users, turned performers, find themselves taking part in a behavioral protest, acting their minds openly and freely at this accessible start-a-revolution landscape.

The site is located at 28 Liberty Plaza, which is formerly known as One Chase Manhattan Plaza. The plaza itself is a piece of landscape where distinctive normd of behaviours exist. At the plaz a level, during the ordinar y times, the place is disguised as a playscape for not only workers and kids, but also buskers are welco med on the stage, and even unleashed dogs get their ground to play. It is a point of destination for tourists, residents and nearby workforce.

The entrance of the plaza is enclosed in a rec ycled foam wall that transformed the act of occupying the plaza in a gesture of disobeying posted rules and enacts “distasteful behaviors. The protesters, through the manipulation of civic spaces, advocate for their own collective values and act as agents in the radical reshaping of the place.

When the big day comes, the plaza is crowded by the protesters of all kinds! Secret ly, the beds that ser ved as seats are now turned into carriers in suppor t of the protest. Proteste rs flow into the lower level in ways of disobeying rules such as sliding down or taking a ride dow n the ramp.
The space of the lower level is divided into zones for food, media, reading, sleeping, and general assembly area. The protest encourages public-private inversion, creates a vernacular architecture that promotes collective living.
PROTEST KIT The “Bed” transforms into a booth with a working sur face, allowing volunteers with laptop computers to edit videos, write ar ticles , and update websites with information about the protest.
The “Bed” transpor ts donated books and resources received from readers, private citizens, authors, and corporations, turning into shelves for the librar y. At night, the “Bed” can be inver ted and locked onto each other, transforming into bunk-beds.
OFFCUTS? 0 4 Broken or imperfect conditions are opportunities for renewal if we can change our attitudes. This project for the design of a facility for repair of donated goods aims to inspire and support a culture that values innovative strategies for renewal. Disrupt
The project began with identifying a repair strategy for a found, broken hanger which was transformed into something new by inserting a piece of offcut wood to connect the broken pieces. Offcuts are leftover parts that are usually not considered necessary or useful. By exposing and amplifying the broken part, the repair embraces the “imper fection”. From there, “of fcuts” are conceived conceptually as a strategy for renewal and materially as the primary building component.
