The orientation of the podium responds to the orthogonal ‘Hoddle Grid’ of Melbourne’s CBD. The tower springs from the square base in a cuboid shape. The tower is then rotated clockwise 24o to follow the rotation of other tall buildings in the CBD. This results in a much more even dispersement of daylighting throughout the day, and means that one facade is not subjected to the harsh northern and western sunlight. The rotation also allows for better views, especially towards the Carlton Gardens from multiple sides of the building. The dispersement of heat gain and views is further accentuated when the north and south corners of the cuboid shape are chamfered at a 45o angle. This increases the number of facades, and allows more light into office spaces.

The public are able to move through the site via the open plaza podium at the Exhibition Street and La Trobe Street corners. This activates the corner and allows better ease of movement into the building, as well as a shortcut for passersby.
SURROUNDING PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Tram stops on La Trobe Street sit right outside the building. A bus stop is also situated very nearby on the west side of Exhibition Street. The largest amount of pedestrian traffic will come from the Parliament railway station on Spring Street. This is a main city stop that serves four different lines out of the city.

The double-height ground floor of the tower is used as an entry point for the levels above, whilst the ground floor at the podium is partly designed as an undercover open plaza that relieves excessive circulation around the busy corner, as well as retail spaces. Levels 2-4 in the podium have the opportunity to be rented as office spaces, greatly increasing the NLA for these floors. The low-rise levels above the podium share an identical floor plate to the mid-and high-rise floors.

Each bank of lifts travels from the Ground Floor to each of their respective levels, bypassing the levels below.
