Week 9 Constructing Journal

Week 9 In this week we learnt how to draw the isometric drawing for the detail section.

(The section detail that I chose) First, we use tracing paper to trace the detail in the scale of 1:5.

Then we select the points on the section detail, and then we extend the point as line with the angle of 45 degrees.

Some parts of the detail are hidden and invisible.

(During the drawing) The second part of the tutorial is introducing a part of the roof structure of the Spanman.

These are the photos of 1:1 scale model. From image 1, we could see the new framing area, also the bear. Some of the parts of the model use the softwood, not the hard wood because soft wood is cheaper and they are easier to nail.

From image 2, we could see the taper. The taper is narrow at the end. This technique could be used on lots of place, for example, on the heavier steel member.

The image 3 shows the roof beam and the bird mouth.

Plastics What is rubber? Rubber is a naturally accruing substance first used by the Mayas and Aztecs in South America.

It’s a milky white substance from trees with elastic properties.

Beginning of 20th, Scientists began making synthetic rubber for chemicals.

Rubber is soft.

It makes a good choice where grip or friction is important.

Hard smooth surface reduce friction.

It could not be polished and therefor increases friction.

It has good electrical insulating properties.
