Constructing Environments Week 6 Journal

Week 6 Journal In week 6’s tutorial, we used timber to make a model of the site. My site is the reception near Queens College with glass blocks. The first thing that we do is observe the different plan including floor plan, roof plan, detail plan etc. After discussion with my group member, we decide to make a model that the scale is 1:20.

The scale of this plan is 1: 100. From this plan, we could see the structure of the reception. For example, how many beams and how many joints do we need to make and where they are etc.

For this picture, the scale is 1: 20. We decide to make the same scale as this one because it might be convenient.

The three details, 01, 02, 05 are the details in the reception area. The scale of the detail plan is 1: 5. To make it fit our model, we minimize them for times then they could fit our model scale which is 1: 20. As the detail is very tiny and difficult to make, we simplify some of the process.

These are some of the model that we make. The left side picture is the beams of the reception. The right side one is the place that outside the reception where has concrete seats and glass blocks. The mode we make is the steel on the concrete seats. The picture on the left is the details that we made. From the plan, we know that they are detail 01 and detail 05.

The picture on the right is the model that students done in other tutorial. They did the rough structure and we did the details. They could fits together and they are the same scale. Since there are only two people in our group (including me), we didn’t finish it but we enjoy this process and learnt a lot.
