Caslon is declared as the “Script of Kings�. Caslon exudes a sense of intellectual and class as William Caslon, whom was an ornament engraver for gunlocks. Caslon was popular in the United States and eventually it is the most used for the publication of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Caslon emerged some characteristics of Transitional forms yet it still retains many qualities of the Garalde. This graceful typeface maintains an exceptional crispness of the letter which become a long favoured for publications. A huge influence from the dutch old-style face brings readabality in the rhythmic relationships.
During the end of the 15th century, Garalde form originates from the typefaces of Aldus Manutius, cut by the Punchcutter Francesco Griffo for the Aldine press. This period in type history lasts from the late 15th century all the way until the early 1700s. Whereas the Humanist types were superseded by the Garalde and passed into relative obscurity, Garalde types were refined and developed through its history, maintaining its elegance and durability in its type. Garalde Old Style evoke a charateristics of broad nibbed pen letters to improve in type-making tools such as the punchcutter, linotype, and monotype machine. These calligraphic qualities of the typeface brings a thick to thin contrast to maintain the legibility of the best Garalde faces.

the man behind it
H
e originally started off as an engraver that carves government marks on gunlock. Eventually he started his career by cutting a font of Arabic and English for Psalter and a New Testament. He cuts roman type with punchcutter meticulously with his hands and does the smallest correction. Caslon has given the task of cutting type punches as well as modenize books which inspired many future type founder. This exotic yet readable typeface were modelled on Dutch type but were much more delicate.
