2009- Sensed huge market for students Late 2009, the first moment I read about e-ink reader, I was impressed by its eyestrain-free, lightweight, long battery life features. I sensed this have the potential to change education industry.

2010- Directions I predicted.

Color display, bigger screen, better note function.

2012-Market respond to prediction

Apple patented a screen, which can switch between E-ink and normal screen and start to focus on text book.

Research showed that a E-ink Reader should have a big screen and be portable at the same time. Also good note function is the key to be successful. By exploring different direction, a foldable E-ink reader has been developed, which is supported by flexible E-ink screen and Elek Tex technology.

-Full Size Colorful Display Normal E-ink readers aim at business people for novels. The screen is too small for normal text book, especially for popular pdf version. Foldable Iris, which employed flexible colorful E-ink technology, is both portable and big enough to read even the biggest textbooks’ pdf.

B1 B2 -Portable Fashion The over-weight bags is not only harmful for back but also bad for fashion look. The folded Iris fits small purse. Also the elegant design can match with the most fashionable apparels. Maintain nice look has never been easier before.

Notes are always more useful than text book only. However, miss link doodles on note book drive people nuts in exam week. Iris organize users’ notes just besides the contents they related to. Also a 3-D view with all your post-it enhance the photography memory procedure. Last but not the least, notes and related material can be extracted to form accustomed error collection.

Sedentary office life is lethal. Even best chair is body’s cage.

Secondary Research

Need new ergonomics, periodically switch between good positions, works as design guideline.

Love connection People like decorate office with family’s photo.

Natural Pause Naturally pauses for water, rest room and relax periodically.

Perch NASA suggests perch as a good alternative work position.

Implications

Three directions were developed for both recent improvement and future use. This concept has two parts: family member’s avatar and perch pad. It can be marketed as gift. The avatar represents family member’s love. It will send reminder during natural pauses. Pad offer users different working position.

Define Problem Mike Zender developed Medical Symbol system for African people who speak different languages or are illiterate. I participated the second part of the research carried out in America as control group. The hypothesis is modern education effect people’s ability to understand the medical symbols. By participate this research, I got an overview of mixed -methods Evaluative Research designed to test feasibility and measure effectiveness of proposed design solutions. I explore evaluative research methods including: experiment design, survey, IRB protocol development, statistical analysis, probability and hypothesis testing, and be able to employ these appropriately.

tREND FORCASTING Define Problem Trend forecasting is the process of identifying marketplace preferences that may be a great point to develop new product, according to analyzing compelling sources such as The New York Times. Understanding the benefits of trend forecasting will help designer identify design opportunity gap quicklier and easier. Thus time can be saved for further design iteration.

Procedure Detail Part 1: Read believable source’s news in large scale and summarize their most eye catching theme. Part 2: Organize these themes into several trends and set them as primary theme. Part 3 : Search for more materials from reliable sources to validate the primary theme and summarize sub theme. Part 4: Visual lize the trends in a way easy to understand but delicate to show the trends to normal people.

Forecasted Trends 1: User Centered Medical System 2.Sensorial Adventure. 3.Situational Technology.

G uns in A merica Define Problem Time magazine published an article about guns in America in 2007.

Designer was challenged to combine information of three figures bout America firearm households rate, gun death rate and number of gun-control laws into one. The new figure should be easy for readers to compare how the three set of data affect each other.

Solution Broken line graph style has been used. But the gun-control laws’ figure has been horizontally reflected to make the figure more clean. Also the symmetrical shape emphasise the tendency. X axis is specially designed to show geography affects. U.S. map is dived into slices in south and north direction. Then the slices are arranged from north to south. By this way the readers can easily get the conclusions the writer gave out: 1. Southern states have some of the highest death rates from the gun. 2. Gun- owner ship rates tend to be higher where gun laws are looser. 3. Gun-control laws are strongest in California and the northeast.

Chinese style shoe design

E-card designed for 2012 Chinese dragon year.

Illustration of my own manifesto as a industrial designer Keep head above the cloud and the feet on the ground. Come up the craziest concepts and make them practical.

Yingxue Zhao was born in Weihai, Shandong , China in 1987. She finished her industrial design bachelor degree in Nanjing University of Science and technology. Then she went to University of Cincinnati in the U.S. for her graduate degree and graduated in 2012. Jun. She is working in Samsung Research and Design Center - Tianjin as a cellphone mechanical engineer right now.

Email: anneweihai@gmail.com Cellphone: +86-187.2229.0460

She is a design professional with a strong background in design research, design strategy, product development. She starts to build up her skills in interaction design by studying Java, javaScript, Objective-C and graphic design now. Her designs are usually inspired by touching true love between friends and family and focus on real-world’s needs. Making an emotional connection with consumers—by leveraging strategy, design and story telling techniques —is at the heart of her work.
