A hypothetical art museum composed of units hosting both art and its armature. Space with a wide range of scales to flexibly exhibiting the back of house as part of the exhibition. The form is composed with many wrapped volumes, a direct operation mixing front and back of house together, providing an alternative experience for artists, museum goers and curators.

The wrapping layer acts as the armature for art that has the spatial quality of being complex, contextual, and raw in contrast to the neatness of the wrapped layer. Art exits both in a de-contextualized white core and in a contextual wrapping, bringing awareness to how art is processed, stored, repaired, etc.

Cultural center: Plan axonometric & scenarios

10

The project includes two parts: public housing and cultural center. The two buildings enclose the site, providing interactive urban facade while maintaining intimacy to the square. For the cultural center, Layers of formal language changes when there is a special site element. The language is a form of collectivity while the site elements is a form of individuality.

The residential building is composed of Towers are private living space optimized for sunlight. Loggia provides public space for interaction, also a layer between residents and the city.

03. WHITE SPACE_ RESORT COMPLEX DES

14

“White space” in Chinese landscape paintings is a technique to suggest cloud, water and other formless bodies. Such negative space enrich one’s imagination when one is viewing the positive space. The project is a resort complex inspired by this technique. Each building is composed with a blurring middle layer, introducing sunlight and visual connection. As a whole, the complex creates the overlapping experience of viewing and imagining as one get from Chinese landscape paintings.

People, of different groups, during different periods of the day, are attracted by different destinations. Their movements can be simulated based on swarm intelligence (BOIDS code). By adopting the algorithm to analyze the people flow. The design incorporates multiple flows on the site, creating an urban complex connecting multiple transportation systems and urban hotspots.

The building is a result of simulations overlapping together. Behind each form lurks another one. The amalgam engages outdoor space, landscapes, infrastructure, etc.

05. MINING THE CITY - A MATERIAL MOBILIZATION SYSTEM FOR CITY UPGRAD

22

Driven by the Green New Deal and Local Law 97, through relocating New York City’s material excess locally, the project aims to improve NYC’s overall building energy performance with much less carbon emission. Through treating our city as a production system, different building types provide different material supplies andneeds. Therefore, we can create a just-intime material mobilization system that transforms excessive and inefficient materials from existing buildings to high-performance materials.

Interim urbanism are selected critical projections set forth around youth dwelling in NYC. I worked on the proposals - HQY (drawing and design), reconfiguring a 560, 000 sqft warehouse building where Amazon planned its now-canceled headquarter HQ2 into a youth complex that combines youth housing, work units with a new public higher education institution.
