Tough Love An Obstacle Course Wedding Venue, Venice, Italy This “Test of Love reflects both the joys and horrors that we all face in relationships. Extravagant, daring, and excessive in form, in this cathedral two lovers must survive to make it to the altar, with their friends and family watching as onlookers to cheer them on. Marriage and companionship are celebrated for what they truly are: beautiful, spectacular, and undoubtedly, tough.

Humanist Retreat A Place of Spiritual Pilgrimage, Rome, Italy Inspired by Alain de Botton’s book “Religion for Atheists”, this spiritual mecca for Humanists encapsulates the exuberance of ecclesiastical architecture. People of all religions are welcome and live in a close community “Plug-In City” that grows over time, with the opportunity to meditate, grow their own food and read a vast collection of books within the Temple of Knowledge.

Now You See Me...

Tech School, San Francisco, CA Nowadays it is easy for us to decode visual images because of the ubiquity of image-based media. My project harnesses various optical effects to challenge the modern observer’s cognition, in a playful celebration of color, perspective and formal illusions. The Tech Incubator is a glitch in the urban landscape, as Escher-like impossible geometries, pixel patterns and sheared objects flash by one of San Francisco’s main highways.

Cinema Space with 3 Theaters Silverlake, LA Inspired by Luhrmann’s 1996 film “Romeo + Juliet”, this project plays on strategies of doubling. The couple first see each other through the lens of an aquarium, where their reflections super-impose onto one another. To imitate this, the cinemas here mirror across a central axis. The two halves seem starkly independent, but are in fact recipricol and alike. This represents the infinite tension and opposition between the rival families.

Design Development Mixed-Use Development, Fashion District, LA

The course investigates issues related to the implementation of design: technology, the use of materials, systems integration, and the archetypal analytical strategies of force, order and character. Students were given selected studio projects to develop, and the final presentation consisted of sixteen 24x36 boards conveying structural diagrams as well as 2D and 3D details of the project.

Programmatic Joinery Performing Arts School, BogotĂĄ, Colombia

The metaphor of joinery represents the exchange of ideas within a school. The forms were inspired by pre-Colombian jewelry and Tairona symbols. In terms of tectonics, the building’s skin is derived from a brushed, unfinished gold leaf texture, as goldwork is highly celebrated in Colombia. This school is a metaphor for collaborative learning as many joints fit together to create a collaborative whole.

Unruly Degrees of Enclosure Mixed-Use Development, Fashion District, LA

This project proposes a mixed-use development containing residential, office, retail and event units as well as a large flower market. A key aspect of our building is “the grotto”, the large cavernous space where the flower market and public ampitheatre are located. Besides this, three inside “rooms” create an interesting dialogue between the inside and outside, forming multiple thresholds and interstitial spaces.

Fairy Tale 2017

VR Therapy for Identity Crises (Honorable Mention) Our entry for this international architecture competition is a psychological report in which a young lady suffers from a cultural identity crisis, after moving from “Konghai City to England. The patient re-visits different stages of her life through virtual reality therapy, and finally is able to re-build hybrid virtual worlds of places she has lived in. This empowers her and shows us the power of VR as a tele-medical tool.

Barn Conversion into Showroom/Office, Henley UK This Barn Conversion was designed to be a creative gathering place with an industrial aesthetic. Henley’s history of trade inform the scheme’s materiality, as bespoke glass meeting rooms and leather detailling draw on the artisans of the area. I 3D modelled and produced visualisations in Rhino/Vray, and designed the contemporary brick entrance that appears to crumble away. I also produced the drawings in AutoCad.

Residential Project, PicoRobertson District of LA During my internship I worked on this Beverlywood development residential project in the Pico-Robertson district of LA. The facade was generated in Grasshopper, and then further 3D modeled in Rhino. I produced visualizations of this using Maya, VRay and Photoshop. In addition, we produced a proposal document that contained plans, sections and elevations for bidding this project to developers.
