Santa Fe art district is rich in character,

culture, and creativity. As Denver’s first and oldest Art District, the Art District on Santa Fe is the heart of neighborhood which hosts the city’s popular First Friday Art Walk. The Denver Art Center located at the corner of Santa Fe and 7th street, where gives us an opportunity to enhance the experience of the Art District. Being at the corner, the site has the potential to grasp city’s attention to the neighborhood. The site serves as a possible destination or beginning point to explore the vibrant neighborhood. This location becomes the most prominent social hub in the Santa Fe Art District. Therefore, the building will not only serve as a destination point, but also a

place for cultivation and dispersion of ideas for the enrichment of civic life. The idea of borderless or blurry edge will be carried out as the main theme of the building. The form of the architecture on the street edge has a subtle gravity to draw people into the building by fusing between the street edge and the building. The spaces within the building will also have a sense of continuity in both movement and visual. This will provide the sense of simultaneous and interrelated discoveries as one move through the spaces rather than feeling enclosed in one space.

Timber in the City

Site: Lower East Side, Manhattan, New York City, NY Project Type: Site Research, Timber Construction Reasearch,Housing, Market, Museum Scale:280,000 ft2 Year: Fall 2015 Professor: Chad Kraus

14

Project Background The competition challenges participants to design a mid-rise, mixed-use complex with affordable housing units, a NYC outpost of the The Andy Warhol Museum and a new and expanded home for the historic Essex Street Market.Timber is an ideal green building material: it is well suited for a broad range of structural and aesthetic applications, it offers economical construction and high performance characteristics.

ACCESS

Design Concept New york is a city build with stone, concrete. Nature has been demolished as the city grow. My design approach is to bring nature back to life, create a place where people can access to the nature, breath fresh air, and play with nature for the community and the city. Timber is an ideal green building material, it well suited with this concept both structurally and aesthetically. In addition inspried by Garden City movement, I designed a"green-belt" inside the city, provide to people a chance to interact with the nature. The green belt create a liveable enviroment for the local communities. The residents will be able to use the green space to cultivate their own foods. A mirco living circle will be created inside the timber city.
