Location of the Site
SITE ANALYSIS
The site is located in Suzhou Old Town. It is bordered by the historic moat to the east, Ganjiang Rd (the city’s East-west thoroughfare) to the south, and Ouyuan Garden to the north. The popular Pingjiang Road historic district is just one large block away to the west. The site also enjoys its proximity to important cultural destinations in the northeast quarter of Suzhou, including the world cultural heritage sites like the Humble Administrator’s Garden and Lion Grove Garden as well as prestigious educational institutions like Suzhou University. This site represents an unparalleled opportunity for development that could have significant impact on the downtown. The site is a long rectangle with a total area of 10.88 hectares. It is divided into two large blocks by a canal in the middle. A reconstructed city gate sits along the moat to the east. Metro Line 1 Xiangmen Station is located at the southwest corner of the site.

Trees and Water Tank
For exhibition hall, it is lack of integration with people, more precisely, it dosen'r presnt things in interesting and attractive way. The plaza is an important part of the Exhibition hall and I want to design it as an extention of the exhibition hall company with the function of public space. Tree has anual ring and the anual ring could represent the age of the tree. Using such element as a design tool, presenting historical events, history of Beijing in a more interesting way could let people see things differently. Following the timeline, recongning the city morphology in different age, reading the text on the floor will make this plaza not only a place for people to seat and talk but also become a place where people could learn something.
