DISCOVER THE PAST AND PRESENT The History The Herencia at 46 Kim Yam Road is a fresh development that pays homage to its luminous history by preserving the façade of the former Nan Chiau High School, and with it the rich heritage of the old premise. A foot in the old and the new, it endeavours to bridge the past and present by encapsulating the emotions of nostal gia for the site while also transforming itself into a sleek and

past

Nan Chiau 南侨 Secondary School 1941 Initiated by Mr Tan Kah Kee, Mr Lee Kong Chian bought a mansion at Kim Yam Road and used it to start Nan Chiau Teachers’ Training School.

1947 Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan converted Nan Chiau Teachers’ Training School into Nan Chiau Girls’ High School, with a primary school.

1965 - 1968 Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan spent $2 million rebuilding Nan Chiau. The secondary school section moved, while the primary school remained.

1976 Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan spent another $300 000 to add on a 5th storey to the school premises. The school relocated in 1990.

01

CAFETERIA Located on level one, the open cafeteria is a flexible space that serves as a net connecting the ‘public heart’ to the private spaces. The feature stair helps interior fitness circulation.

02

RECEPTION & WAITING More then a welcome area, it is a community connectivity opportunity, A waiting room that serves students to teacher’s office and administrators to prospect students.

03

MULTIPURPOSE HALL The hall is a fluid, all school gathering space where visual, aural and verbal learning takes place. Ambient lighting and integrated accoustic surfaces support this funciton.

04

LIBRARY Located on the second floor of the ‘heart’, the Library is the North arrow on the school compass, helping students navigate through their pedagogical school journey.

05

LEARNING QUARTER A ‘soft’ classroom with rounded edges and individual, mobile, active furnishings. The layout integrates fluid technlogy for easier transition from collaboration to independent.

hh

BREAKOUT ZONE
