Lesson 10 Thanks Dad, for Showing Me How Poor We Are If a father and his son can develop hobbies together or other common interest or simply be together, enjoying moments together, what they experience may be remembered for a lifetime. Integrate Your Learning Many times, people forget what they have and thus fail to appreciate these because they concentrate so much on things that they do not have. Sometimes, they feel that
they are deprived just because they see others who seem to have so much. Or, they feel superior over the rest because they seem to have more than others. It is all a matter of perspective, of how they look at things- just like how the young song in the story learned to look at life from a beautiful perspective. Speaking of perspective, you can also look into your own family life from another angle. In your family, you learn about living with one another, where each family member learns to interact. It is also in the family where you acquire attitudes, behavior, values and traditions. In the story that you just read, you saw how the young adolescent had a valuable learning experience with his father, and how, in return, the son was able to make his father see life from a more realistic perspective. Indeed, sharing moments with family members can make you discover a treasure of learning experiences that can give you true happiness. Remember You have to work hard for things that you want in life. But if you cannot have them, keep in mind that you cannot everything. Oftentimes, you forget about what you have and concentrate on what you do not have. Instead of worrying about wanting more., be content with you already have. If you can; learn to be thankful and satisfied with what you have, then you can be the happiest person in this world.
Lesson 11 A Life with Friends Friends are people who help you be the best person that you are.
Integrate Your Learning Friends are big and important part of your life. They are the ones you usually run to with good news and the ones you choose to
call on for bad news. They are the ones you spend most of your time with, and the ones with whom you share your hopes and dreams. You share great times and bad times with friends. Sometimes, you do together things that put you in trouble and that you regret doing. But you also do some meaningful activities with your friends, like getting involved in outreach work in school, community treeplanting, parish involvement, and enriching your hobbies. As you do things together, you become close to one another discover things about one anotherâ€&#x;s personality, accept one anotherâ€&#x;s differences and shortcomings. Relating with your friends helps you grow and develop as human persons. Friends can also be a source of pain and suffering. It hurts when a friend betrays your or when you lose him/her to death or to someone else. You can also be guilty of hurting others when you reject them, such as when you and your friends have differences in opinions, like or values. There are all part of the process of relating with others the wonders of friendship. Remember True friendship multiples the good in life. To find one real friend in a lifetime is good fortune: to keep him/her is a blessing.
Lesson 12 Precious Moments
Time lost will never be regained. Integrate Your Learning You have just one life to live. Live it to the full and make it meaningful. Time goes by and will not come back again. Life is compared to a game. Sometimes, you lose; at other times you win. Work has been compared to rubber ball which can bounce back and forth. On the other hand, family, health, friends and spirit were compared to balls made of glass. If you are not careful. If you are not careful, if these four balls made of glass break, they will never be the same.
Value your family. Time, care, attention and love must be given to your family every single moment of your life. Invest on them. All the love you give them returns to fill your heart each day. Value your friends. You have discovered in our past lessons that friends are our treasures who help make you the persons that you are. Value your health. It is your wealth. When you are sick you cannot function well. When you are not feeling well, you cannot work well, think well nor perform well. Value yourself and everything about you. View life positively. See the beauty that lies within everything that you come across. Be grateful and thank God for all your blessings. Above all else, share your blessing. Remember Cherish life. It is precious. When pain or suffering comes., it is still part of life. Do not give up when unpleasant experiences come into your live. Move on and continue living. Keep in mind that after the rain comes a beautiful sunshine.
Lesson 13 Beyond the Flaws and Defects I am only one; but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still can do do something. I will not refuse to do the something I can do. Integrate Your Learning Each person has his/her own unique flaws. Each one is a “cracked pot.â€? But it is the cracks and flaws that each has that make lives very interesting and rewarding. In the story, if the water bearer had two perfect pots, there would not have been beautiful flowers growing along the way. There could have been no flowers to decorate the masterâ€&#x;s house to make the room look alive. With the cracked pot, watering the flowering along the way became simple and easier for the water bearer. In the story, the cracked pot with its own flaws server an important purpose and actually played an important role in this world
Remember Remember to appreciate all the different people in your life, even yourself. It there were no „raked pots, life would have been very boring and not exactly interesting. The reason is that beyond the flaws and defects lie something unique and beautiful.
Lesson 14 Cell Phone vs. Bible God is everywhere and He speaks to His people through so many means.
Integrate Your Learning
Communication is a process of transferring an idea, meaning or information from one person to another. It may be one way process: transmitting a message from a sender to are cleaver It may also be a two-way process in which communication flows from a sender to a receiver and back to the original sender. That is what happens when one uses-the cell phone to transmit text messages to his/ her friends. Cell phones have become a very popular, fast and convenient means of communication. Perhaps, this is why their users seem to treasure their cell phones very much. They have become so important a part of the userâ€&#x;s lives that they have grown to depend much on the cell phones. They spend much time on the cell phones and practically focus their complete attention on them. On the other hand, God speaks to his through the Bible. He has important messages for everyone in the different books of the Bible which are applicable and useful in his/her daily living. Have you ever tried reading the Bible? When was the last time you opened the Bible to read a passage?
Lesson 15 Shopping Time What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. Integrate Your Learning Your journey through life is just like shopping in a mall. The world around is one big shopping mall. Every single day, every second of the day, you collect “goods. What is so special about these goods is that they are priceless treasures which will surely be appreciated by anyone who receives them.
S you collect them, you into a better individual ad become pleasing godâ€&#x;s eyes. And these is an abundance of them fir the supply never runs out. These can also be given away. Anyone who receives them will surely experience joy, happiness, and inner peace. What is amazing about these goods is that the more you give them away, the more you can avail yourself of them. Truly the supply, never runs out. Remember: There is beauty and greatness all around. Shop well. Use well what you have shopped for and make this world a better and happier place for all to live.
Lesson 16 Attitude Is Everything Great things are done by people who think great thoughts and then go out into the world to make their dreams come true.
Integrate Your Learning Read and Reflect How do you approach life and handle the “storms “that life brings you? Find out how the eagle does it. Read the following essay. The Eagle An eagle knows when a storm is approaching long before it breaks. The eagle will fly to some high spot and wait for the winds to come. When the storm hits, it sets its wings so that the wind will pick
the eagle up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages below, the eagle is soaring above it. The eagle does note escapes the storm. It simply uses the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm. When the storms of life come upon us human beings and all of us will experience them, we can rise above them by setting our minds and our belief towards God. The storm does not have to overcome us. We can allow God‟s power to lift us above them. God enables us to ride the winds of the storm that bring sickness, tragedy, failure and disappointment in our lives. We can soar above the storm. THE SPIRIT OF BAYANIHAN BEGIN! Read the story below. Bucket Brigade to the Rescue by Matthew Alganes
One day, Sophia shared with her classmates a story about the fire that broke out in her neighbor’s house. “It was so scary!” Sophia said. “Suddenly, this was a huge fire in Mrs. Escorte’s house. Luckily, men and women who were close by grabbed buckets and helped put out the fire. “How did they do that” asked Jeffrey. “They formed a bucket brigade,” Sophia said. “What is a bucket brigade?” asked Donna. “it is a way of helping put out a fire,” explained Jeffrey. “In a bucket brigade, buckets filled with water are passed from one person to the next to make the transporting faster. The Persons at the end of the line will extinguish the fire.” “Children Helped, to Sophia continued.” Some carried the empty buckets back to faucets and pumps to be filled with water again. Others helped watch over Mrs. Escorte’s furniture that were brought out of the burning house. With the help of everybody, Mrs. Escorte’s house was saved.” “Wow! They really worked hard!” said the amazed Dana. “They didn’t just work hard,” said Sophia. ”They worked together. Answer the following question: What happened to Mrs. Escorte’s house? _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ What did the people do to help? _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________
What is a bucket brigade? _____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ Were the people able to save Mrs. Escorte’s house? Why? _____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________ THINK ABOUT IT! Cooperation is the concept of people working together as a team. It also means teamwork. Teamwork is an important concept. In school, some projects require pupils to work together. Ask questions and discuss the objectives of the team. . Treat others with respect and support their points of view. . Share resources and knowledge with the group. . Motivate and encourage your teammates to do their best. In the Philippine community, we refer to cooperation as “BAYANIHAN” What is BAYANIHAN? Bayanihan is a Filipino word derived from the word bayan meaning “town” “nation” or “community” in general. Bayanihan literally means “being a bayan” and thus used to refer to the spirit of unity and cooperation. Bayanihan is displayed in the old tradition of helping a neighbor move his/her house. Volunteers help carry the whole house, and literally moving it to its
new location, They do this by placing long bamboo poles length-wise and cross-wise under the nipa hut, and then carrying the hut using the bamboo frame. It takes a large number of people, often 15 or more working together you carry the entire house. All this done in a happy and joyful mood. At the end of the day, moving family expresses their appreciation by hosting a small feast for everyone. REVIVING ILOG PASIG One good example of bayanihan is rehabilitation of Ilog Pasig. Efforts are being made to breathe life into the polluted Pasig River. Hopefully, it will once again be an important route for quick and economical transport to and from key areas Metro Manila. The Pasig River used to be an important transport route during the Spanish period. But today, squatter communities consisting of approximately 12,000 household line the banks of the Pasig River. About 2,000 families live in house found under the bridges that cross the river. The river remains a highway that can be used to avoid traffic. This is one of the reasons why the river is bent to be rehabilitated. With the continue rehabilitation by the people, the river will surely be back to its beauty and glory.
