Can I fly to the first city then pick up my Rail Vacation package and then fly home from a different city?
Yes, absolutely! You can take the Amtrak train one way and then fly home from a different city. This is very popular with our Independent Rail Vacations and our Rail and Sail Vacation packages.
Can I add on additional sightseeing activities and/or additional hotel nights to one of your Rail Vacation packages?
Yes, you can add additional sightseeing activities and/or hotel nights to most existing rail vacation packages we offer. There are a couple ways to do this.
On the website: You will be able to view the Amtrak rooming upgrade options, hotel upgrade options and additional sightseeing options through the online booking process. Details of the upgrades and price increases are listed next to each item. Additional charges may apply. When you speak with a Vacation Specialist, request an explanation of the upgrade options to your vacation package as you wish. Additional charges may apply.
When I upgrade to sleeping accommodations, are my meals included?
Yes! On most long distance trains all meals are included in the dining car during meal times when upgrading to a sleeping accommodation.
Can I take a specific Rail Vacation that you offer in a reverse order?
Yes! We offer most of our rail vacation packages in reverse order. Please call and speak with one of our Rail Vacation Specialists at 800-268-7252 for reverse options.
All of our hotels are centrally located within each city we visit. Most are within a short distance of the train station and local sights. Hotel upgrades are available upon request.
We can provide special menu selections on most trains with 72-hour advance notice. We require 24-hour advance notice for Acela Express First Class service. You do not need to provide advance notice for vegetarian meals.
How long before the train departs should I be at the station?
The recommended arrival time for each station varies, but plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled departure If you need help with baggage, tickets or any other services, or if you are departing from a large or busy station, we recommend you arrive at the station even earlier. To confirm your train will be arriving on time, please call 1-800-USA-RAIL.
How much luggage can I bring?
In general, each passenger is allowed two (2) carry-on bags, each not to exceed 50 lbs. (23 kg), 28 x 22 x 14 inches (700 x 550 x 350 millimeters), free of charge. Additionally, each passenger can check up to four bags - two free of charge and two for $20 per bag, each not to exceed 50 lbs. (23 kg), 75 linear inches (length + width + height) if the origin and destination stations offer checked baggage service. *Subject to change

Travelers aged 65 and over receive a 10% discount on the rail portion of an Amtrak Vacations® package. Valid governmentissued ID may be requested as proof of age. The senior discount is not applicable for travel on Amtrak Auto Train®, USA Rail Pass, nor on certain connecting Amtrak Thruway services. The discount is available on Acela Express® trains on weekends only. On crossborder services operated jointly by Amtrak and VIA® Rail Canada, a 10% senior discount is applicable to travelers aged 60 and over.
Children and infants must travel with an adult who is at least 18 years or older. Children aged 2 to 12 receive a 50% discount on the rail portion of an Amtrak Vacations package when accompanied by at least one person paying an adult rail fare. Children under age 2 are permitted to travel free of any rail fare, provided they do not occupy a separate seat if the seat is needed for any passenger aged 2 and over. One child under age 2 is permitted to travel free with each adult traveler (additional children under age 2 may travel under the 50% discount policy described above).
All discount programs are subject to change without notice. Reservations for all membership discounts must be made at least three days in advance of departure. Tickets cannot be purchased from conductor.
National Association of Railroad Passengers (NARP)* / **
Members of the NARP receive a 10% discount on the rail portion of an Amtrak Vacations package. NARP members must provide a valid, personalized NARP membership card and a photo ID at time of ticket purchase, and at time of travel, to receive the discount.
