This morning you will change trains in Los Angeles’s Union Station to board the famous Coast Starlight® for your ride north to San Francisco. DAY 9: SAN FRANCISCO

A full day of sightseeing in San Francisco awaits! Use your hop-on, hop-off sightseeing tour to visit San Francisco’s top attractions such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Union Square, and historic Haight-Ashbury District. Today you will venture out on a full-day sightseeing tour of Rocky Mountain National Park! Take in the views of the majestic Rocky Mountain range, capture pictures of wildlife, and drive over Berthoud Pass where you will summit the Continental Divide that sits at over 11,000 feet above sea level. Begin your day with a visit to the “Gateway to the West” at the St. Louis Gateway Arch. At an astounding 630-feet tall, the magnificent Gateway Arch remains the tallest man-made national monument in the United States. Yes, you can add additional sightseeing activities and/or hotel nights to most existing holidays we offer. There are a couple ways to do this.

On the website: You will be able to view the Amtrak rooming upgrade options, hotel upgrade options and additional sightseeing options through the online booking process. Details of the upgrades and price increases are listed next to each item. Additional charges may apply. When you speak with a Rail Specialist, request an explanation of the upgrade options to your holiday as you wish. Additional charges may apply.

When I upgrade to sleeping accommodation, are my meals included?

Yes! On most long distance trains all meals are included in the dining car during meal times when upgrading to a sleeping accommodation.

Can I take a specific Holiday that you offer in a reverse order?

Yes! We offer most of our trips in reverse order. Please call and speak with one of our Rail Specialists on 020 3780 2300 for reverse options.

Where are your hotels located?

All of our hotels are centrally located within each city we visit. Most are within a short distance of the train station and local sights. Hotel upgrades are available upon request.

Can you accommodate special dietary needs?

We can provide special menu selections on most trains with 72-hour advance notice. We require 24-hour advance notice for Acela Express First Class service. You do not need to provide advance notice for vegetarian meals.

How long before the train departs should I be at the station?

The recommended arrival time for each station varies, but plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled departure. If you need help with baggage, tickets or any other services, or if you are departing from a large or busy station, we recommend you arrive at the station even earlier. How much luggage can I bring?

In general, each passenger is allowed two (2) carry-on bags, each not to exceed 50 lbs. (23 kg), 28 x 22 x 14 inches (700 x 550 x 350 millimeters), free of charge. Additionally, each passenger can check up to four bags - two free of charge and two for $20 per bag, each not to exceed 50 lbs. (23 kg), 75 linear inches (length + width + height) if the origin and destination stations offer checked baggage service. *Subject to change

Are transfers included to and from the hotel and train station in your holidays?

At Amtrak Vacations we pride ourselves on the fact that our hotels are city centre locations so they are close to the train station.

How far in advance can I book my Amtrak Vacations vacation?

Superliner Sightseer Lounge

You’ll truly get panoramic views of the passing landscape when you sit facing our oversized windows. When you’re ready for a bite to eat, head to the lower-level snack bar for sandwiches, snacks, beverages and souvenirs.

Viewliner Sleeper Car

Whether traveling alone or with family, our single-level Viewliner Service offers Roomettes, Bedrooms and Accessible Bedroom accommodation. Daytime seating easily converts to a bed at night and our staff provides daily turndown service.

For a little extra room and privacy, consider choosing one of our four types of sleeping accommodation. Sleeping car passengers are entitled to dining car meals, bottled water, coffee and juice, fresh linens and soap.

Seniors*

Travelers aged 65 and over receive a 10% discount on the rail portion of an Amtrak Vacations® package. Valid governmentissued ID may be requested as proof of age. The senior discount is not applicable for travel on Amtrak Auto Train®, USA Rail Pass, nor on certain connecting Amtrak Thruway services. The discount is available on Acela Express® trains on weekends only. On cross-border services operated jointly by Amtrak and VIA® Rail Canada, a 10% senior discount is applicable to travelers aged 60 and over.

Children*

Children and infants must travel with an adult who is at least 18 years or older. Children aged 2 to 12 receive a 50% discount on the rail portion of an Amtrak Vacations package when accompanied by at least one person paying an adult rail fare. Children under age 2 are permitted to travel free of any rail fare, provided they do not occupy a separate seat if the seat is needed for any passenger aged 2 and over. One child under age 2 is permitted to travel free with each adult traveler (additional children under age 2 may travel under the 50% discount policy described above).

MEMBERSHIP DISCOUNTS

All discount programs are subject to change without notice. Reservations for all membership discounts must be made at least three days in advance of departure. Tickets cannot be purchased from conductor.

National Association of Railroad Passengers (NARP)* / **

Members of the NARP receive a 10% discount on the rail portion of an Amtrak Vacations package. NARP members must provide a valid, personalized NARP membership card and a photo ID at time of ticket purchase, and at time of travel, to receive the discount.

* Sleeping car, Business class and First class upgrades are permitted upon payment of full accommodation charges. The discounts are valid in Business class on Acela Express on Saturdays, Sundays and select holidays. For Auto Train service, cardholders receive a discount off rail fare only but not the vehicle charge. Cardholder discounts are not valid on the following services: weekday Acela Express trains, the Canadian portion of joint Amtrak / VIA ® Rail Canada services and on certain Thruway bus service, USA Rail ® Passes and multi-ride tickets. Everyday and membership discounts are not combinable with other offers, promotions or discounts. Tickets purchased with membership cards are subject to any restrictions, blackouts and refund fees that apply to type of fare purchased.
