COLOR DROP ART HUB DATE: 2020FALL LOCATION: downcity providence AREA: 25064 ft² INSTRUCTOR: Michael Blier
This project is aimed to create a series of open spaces for artists, students, residents, and visitors. This art hub area includes functions of gallery, theater, outdoor exhibition space, artists studio, apartment, and hotel. Because of the complete functions here, this art hub can become a life circle for those artists, from creating works to selling works and holding exhibitions, they can finish all these things in this art hub.And this art hub also can attract more visitors to the downtown area and bring more job opportunities and economic benefits.

Most buildings in downcity area are vacant or have single function which can not stimulate the development of this area and serve residents better.
DOWNCITY EXPLORATION|BACKGROUND CITY DERIVE
At very beginning, in the city derive which is an unaimed city exploration, I found my interests about the DownCity area are the pocket spaces or spaces with art elements
ART WALKING TOUR
CONCEPT
In the process of falling, some of the color fly on the wall to become wall painting, and the majority of color drop on the ground to become the mound, the structure, the rest of the color extent to each corner of those pocket spaces and connect them. The color drop is a strategy to reconnect and enlighten those pocket spaces and old buildings
DESIGN PRINCIPLES
Enlighten ground floor Change the part of existing buildings to bring more functions to those old buildings
Engage residual urban fabric Develop leftover and underperforming pocket spaces into new multifunctional space by program layering.
Enrich walkable city Improve walking experience and street connections to bridge the existing gap and pocket spaces.

MICROCLIMATE PALETTE DATE: 2020SPRING LOCATION: phillipsdale east providence AREA: 29.5 arces INSTRUCTOR: Courtney Goode
The Phillipsdale Historic District is a mill village covering over 80 acres of land. In this design, I am interested in both life in the neighborhood and microclimate in this historic post-industrial site. And I believe that human comfort is a significant part of the experience, especially at Rhode Island where we have dramatic temperature changes throughout the year. I am trying to reshape the microclimate conditions as I found a great potential of improving the human comfort and experience. I plan to adjust the air temperature and air humidity in the site by designing the topography, vegetation, and construction ma materials. In order to provide a relatively stable and comfortable environment throughout a year.
CARBINET OF CURIOSITY|SITE EXPLORATION
RAW MATERIALS
Cabinets of curiosity was developed as an inspiration and understanding to the site. The theme of the first cabinet is life traces of the industrial era and current life. An abstract map of objects from the site helps demonstrate different representative elements and possible activities.

BUILDING GROUND|SITE ANALYSIS Today, the ground condition that we see from above is primarily industrial gravel (stone, brick, concrete), but we know that a more complex history lies beneath.By understanding the geomorphic history of the ground, we are able to begin to understand the design implications for future development.

According to the Köppen climate types, the site is in a humid subtropical climate zone. T impermeable surface like industrial and transportation area is marked with pink. Because blue color shows the cooler permeable areas with vegetation or water.
Three main microclimate properties on the site are air temperature, air humidity, and wind

DYNAMIC GROUND DATE: 2019FALL LOCATION: Tillinghast Farm AREA: 45 arces INSTRUCTOR: Elizabeth Dean Hermann
This design is aim to use hand drawing and model making to anlysis the natural forces which form the landform in Tillinghast farm. The models which modify the nature forces are used to create shleter or change landform as landscape projects . Those changes can bring different spatial experience to visitors.

URBAN DARWINISM DATE: 2019SPRING LOCATION: Yuzhong District,Chong Qing AREA: 25 arces INSTRUCTOR: Hui Guo
Most of the systems in urban construction are independent and disorder and many urban facilities based on solving a single problem have brought huge hidden dangers to the city. "Urban Darwinism" is to understand the city as a complete ecological system, each system interacts and the public space with its fluidity, continuity, and flexibility can play a role as a link to connect the other various systems of the city. The elements of the city are regarded as the container of genes. By preserving the positive urban genes in the site, the urban genes that are not suitable for urban development or negative will be transformed and reorganized to drive regional development.

ACTIVATE ABANDONED FACTORY|DETAIL DESIGN
The site has been abandoned as a factory for a long time. The main design method is to inject the circular space derived from the genetic form into the site to provide residents and visitors with a place for rest and have outdoor activities. At the same time, people can change the site according to their needs. Curved bridges connect the entire site and rich visitors’ spatial and visual experiences.
MULTIFUNCTIONAL STRUCTURE|DETAIL DESIGN
SOLAR ENERGY The promotion and popularization of enviroment friendly energy is a popular topic. I hope to install new energy-absorbing devices to provide electricity for small areas.I use this structure as a template for urban renewal.
BOTANICAL GARDEN
COMMUNITY MARKET
The botanical garden set up on the abandoned factory is a continuation of the green memory of the factory. The traces of the industrial era are like fertilizers that nourish the growth of new urban forms.
In order to keep the original pace of life of the residents. I installed a series of devices to provide the residents and tourists with more outdoor activity space than before. Residents can adjust this space according to their needs.

FLYING KAI TAK DATE: 2018FALL LOCATION: Hong Kong AREA: 395 acre
This project aims to revive the former site of Kai Tak Airport and create a comprehensive tourism and entertainment area. This design is based on the sustainable area. This design is based on the sustainable development principles from protecting the history of airport development and improve the ecological enviroment of site. This project would bring more job opportunities to the local, as well as attracting more tourists which could promote the economic development of the Kowloon district.

The concept of the museum comes from the flight history of the airport, so the bird is used as the prototype of the concept, making the main body of the museum has a flying trend. The museum is divided into two floors and can hold commercil activities or exhibitions to attract vistiors.
RECREATIONAL DOCK|DETAIL DESIGN This space is located at the corner od the docking of the two bands, which attracts a large number of visitors and has great commercial value. At this placem there are 6 different circles which have different functions. The first circle is used as an outdoor theater and the sedond circle is used as an ecology pontoon. People can walk on or boat under the bridge. The circle on the greenland is a pucblic outdoor space, playing the role of the commercial shopping center, which can meet the needs of visitors while the the ecological green space can attract birds.
