roots “Roof for Roots”, the YMCA Europe Roots for Peace ROF “Local S OT FOR RCapacities for Peace” Award 2020 Winner Project was implemented by YMCA Georgia at Camp Orange Ureki, from August 15th to 25th and involved 54 young people (mostly aged 15 - 20), representing ethnic Georgian, Armenian & Azerbaijani communities.


ROOF FOR ROOTS: PREPARATIONS After emerging as the winner of the Roots Peace Award 2020 & the favourable COVID19 situation in the country, YMCA Georgia started active preparations for the project that earned the most votes by Peace Work Institute Alumni. “Roof for Roots” aimed towards bringing together the young people representing main ethnic groups living in Georgia to foster the process of building mutual trust, stronger ties and the foundation for a more inclusive and integrated society. Coordinated by “Roots for Peace” Staff and with engagement of YMCA Georgia Project Leadership Team, there were a series of online and face-to-face meetings organized during the month of July in order to elaborate the final program agenda & to allocate specific tasks.

ROOF FOR ROOTS: IMPLEMENTATION

“Roof for Roots� was implemented by YMCA Georgia at Camp Orange Ureki, from August 15th to 25th and involved 54 young people (mostly aged 15 - 20), representing ethnic Georgian, Armenian & Azerbaijani communities. The event had 2 sessions, 5 days each and focused on workshops dedicated to reconciliation, civic engagement, human and minority rights, exposure visits to local historic and nature sites and representation of own cultural traditions.

ROOF FOR ROOTS: FOLLOW-UP Upon successful implementation of “Roof for Roots� project, the Roots Staff Team conducted a follow-up online meeting with the group of young leaders that made the activity happen on all of its stages. The conversation was structured and moderated with the main purpose to obtain the feedback, share experiences, make conclusions and receive recommendations for the future Peace Awards to take place in 2021 & 2022.

PROFEST: BE A VOICE NOT AN ECHO


The preparations for the Roots International Program Festival “Be a Voice, not an Echo� to be held in cooperation with the Council of Europe at European Youth Center Budapest (EYCB) on November 29December 05, 2020 continue in full mode - despite the uncertainty with COVID19 still gripping tight the entire European Continent. The Planning Team held the online meeting with the representatives of EYCB: Natalia Chardymova - The Educational Advisor & Dani Prisacariu - The External Trainer for the Study Session on September 25th, 2020. Our management remains in constant consultations with the Roots’ partners and stakeholders on pursuing the project relevance while this extraordinary context of Covid-19; and on devising strategies matching the “Newnormal�. Various by-lateral or multilateral initiatives are in process of elaboration, from grassroots to international levels of involvement.


ONLINE ACTIVISM We kept our online platforms buzzing all this time, but there are some elements that deserve special spotlight.
