HIGHLIGHTS FOR FALL II: Preschool & Youth Floor Hockey League
November 3, runs for 7 weeks. Floor Hockey is a great way for your child to have fun and stay active. This league provides school age children with a chance to socialize and compete with friends in a safe and instructional setting.
Family Winter Ball
Grab those old formal clothes and dance the night away with your family. It might be cold outside, but our DJ will be warming things up with all the traditional family songs. Light refreshments provided! Saturday, December 1, 6:30pm-7:30pm.
Afterschool Care
When your children participate in a Y after school program, they become part of our family. We offer a variety of clubs to pique every kid’s interest: Blockbuster Lego, Drama, Clay Animation, No Cook Cooking, Fit Club and many more. A TRI INSIDE THE Y! YMCA of the North Shore IRONMAN CHALLENGE Looking to try to stay on track through the holiday season? This healthy holiday challenge will give you a goal and keep you focused for the end of the year! You will have 5 weeks to complete an Ironman Triathlon. You have the option to choose from 2 events: 1. The Traditional Challenge: Bike 112 miles, Run/Walk 26.2 miles and Swim 2.4 miles 2. The Non-swimmer Challenge: Bike 112 miles, Run/Walk 26.2 miles and Row 50,000 meters All those who complete the challenge will get a t-shirt. This is the perfect way mix up your training styles, stay active, and reach a goal you may have never dreamed of! SCHOOL AGE CARE About Our Programs:
At the Y, we believe all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. It makes for confident kids today and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow. When your children participate in a Y after school program, they become part of our family. The Cape Ann Y offers quality, affordable licensed care in Gloucester and Rockport where kids learn values and skills taught by caring adults. We offer a variety of clubs as well to pique every kid’s interest: Blockbuster Lego, Drama, Clay Animation, No Cook Cooking, Fit Club and many more. With programs that run from the closing bell until 6pm Monday through Friday, weekly swim time, and specials on holidays, school vacations and half days, it’s easy to see why the Y is the trusted choice for hundreds of Cape Ann families. We have convenient locations at East Gloucester, Veterans Memorial and Rockport Elementary schools. Children from the other schools in Cape Ann can be transported by the Y to the program at Veterans School.

Ages: 12-24 months & 2-3 years with parent Fee: Y Member $57 Community $82 Music and movement exploration is a major part of the curriculum for our Parent/Tot class. Hand eye coordination and ball handling skills are developed along with small motor development. Children will also work on some gymnastics skills on the spring floor, bars, beam, trampoline, and tumble trak. This class will also focus on peer socialization and is a great place to meet other parents and guardians. Class length is 30 minutes. Ages: 2-3 years without parent Fee: Y Member $57 Community $82 This class is for children ready to attend class without a parent but are a little too young for Teddy Bear Tumblers. This class will not only focus on gymnastics skills, but will also touch on early childhood education. Numbers, letters, colors and social skills will be taught and reinforced throughout an introduction of gymnastics. Introduction to the beam, bars and tumbling will be the major components. Through games, songs and activities our little gymnasts will work on the basic elements. Children will work on gross motor skills and coordination through tumbles, balancing and tricks. Ages: 3-6 years Fee: Y Member $98 Community $144 What could be better than gymnastics and swimming in one day? Children will spend 45 minutes in Kindergym and then be brought by their instructor to the pool for a 45 minute lesson. Wear your suits under your clothes to make jumping into the pool even faster! Black Bears Level 1
Ages: 4-12 years Fee: Y Member $57 Community $82 This class is designed for development of gymnastics skills, uneven bars, balance beam, tumbling, and tumble trak. Children work on basic gymnastics positions such as tuck, pike, straddle, squat and lunge. They will also work on skills such as handstands, cartwheels, round-offs, forward rolls and backward rolls. The children learn how to work well with others and improve their fine and gross motor skills, such as hand eye coordination and readiness while learning gymnastics. Class length is 45 minutes. Each week we will focus on all aspects of strength, flexibility and power that takes to add a back handspring to your cheer or gymnastic routine. Senior Kodiaks Tumbling
Ages: 12 years & up Fee: Y Member $62 Community $93 This class will serve as an introduction to floor tumbling. Great for dancers and cheerleaders who would like to focus on or polish their floor work using spotters and the Air Trak for practice. Back hand springs, standing tucks, and back walkovers will all be introduced in this class. The other apparatuses will not be used in this class. CAY Wednesday 6:15pm
Brown Bears Level 2
Ages: 5-10 years Fee: Y Member $57 Community $82 This class is structured focusing more on gymnastics skills rather than fine motor skills with work on cartwheels, round-offs, handstands, forward and backward rolls, and kids are introduced to the bridge. Students will learn skills on uneven-bars, balance beam, spring floor, trampoline and tumble trak. Children must have passed Level 1 or have the recommendation of an instructor. FIT-TASTIC KIDS FIT-tastic Kids is a program developed by the YMCA of the North Shore to teach kids ages 8 to 14 how to eat a healthier diet and increase daily physical activity. In this program participants will learn how to make healthy food choices, bring home recipes and ideas to their families to continue healthy lifestyle habits at home and find ways to get moving throughout the day. The goal is for both kids and their families to be FIT-tastic together. FIT-tastic Kids offers flexible scheduling for each family to begin at any time. An 8-week Y youth membership is included when participating in this program. FIT-tastic Kids is free for participants and their families because of the generosity of donors and grantors. Ages: 14-18 years Fee: Y Member $70 Community $103 This program is for teens interested in learning how to properly lift weights for any goal, whether it’s weight loss, mass building, slimming and toning, or general strength gain! You will learn how to safely and most effectively perform many different exercises emphasizing proper form, technique, and breathing pattern. You will also learn several different exercises for each major muscle group, as well as a full body workout! Class length is one hour and meets on the fitness floor. CAY Thursday 5:00pm

Grades: 7-12 Fee: Y Member $70 Community $103 Safely perform tons of exercises that build power, strength, flexibility, balance, mobility and prevent injuries, all at the intensity of your choice. The TRX Suspension Trainer™ is adjustable for any fitness level, and the mechanics of TRX Suspension Training exercises are based on multiple planes of movement, so muscles work together to build strength, balance, flexibility and core stability in a safe and efficient manner. Professional athletes to the young little leaguer will safely increase muscular function and reduce the chance of injury. TRX Suspension Training is a great way for teens to use a simple piece of equipment combined with their body weight to get a great workout. Class is taught by a Certified TRX Instructor for one hour in the Training Studio on the 1st floor. CAY Tuesday 3:30pm
Teen Strength and Conditioning
Grades: 7-12 Fee: Y Member $70 Community $103 Use many different strength training techniques to improve your athletic performance in any sport! You will learn about lifting techniques and how to increase strength, power, and endurance to take your game to the next level. Work hard and build confidence in a small group setting. Y Teens Rebuilding New Orleans
Once again, during April school vacation, more than 40 Cape Ann Teens and their chaperones will be returning to New Orleans to continue assisting the rebuilding efforts left in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina & Rita. We’ll be join by approximately another 60 teens and volunteers from throughout the Y of the North Shore. We strongly believe that through serving others, teens will best learn to grow and develop in to effective leaders for tomorrow. Over the past five years, staff and teens have forged strong, healthy enduring relationships while working together for the future of Rockport youth. Youth & Government
Fee: Y Member $360 Community $425 Students interested in government, learning leadership skills, and improving public speaking should join Youth & Government. You can expect about two meetings per month that will last 60-90 minutes long. There will be three Saturday conferences held at Springfield College, Boston College High School and Suffolk University. The program culminates with a three-day, two-night conference in Boston in which students practice government procedures and mock-trials at the White House. Students and chaperones will stay at the Constitution Inn in Boston. All food and lodging is included in the cost of the program. This is a great option for those who are not sure they want to commit to purchasing a uniform and starting belt training. Class is 45 minutes long. CAY Saturday 10:00am
Ages: 5 years & up Fee: Y Member $57 Community $82 In this class students will learn the foundational basics of Karate, including focus, coordination, balance, basic stances, blocks, and strikes. These will be further developed into kata (series of techniques and movements), and a means of self-defense. Students will also learn the value of patience, respect, and perseverance. Participants will need to have a karate uniform, which may be purchased on the first day of class for $25 through the instructor. Enrich your daughter’s experience through team sports with other girls her own age. We will focus 5 sports: basketball, soccer, tennis, T-ball and floor hockey. Class length is 45 minutes. Ages: 3-5 years Fee: Y Member $62 Community $88 If your child loves sports and swimming, then Sport and Splash was designed for them! We have combined two of our most popular programs into one fun-filled class. Kids will have both a swim and sports class. Meet in the gymnasium. CAY Thursday 3:30pm
Preschool Floor Hockey League
Ages: 3.5-5 years Fee: Y Member $62 Community $85 Children will be instructed on the fundamentals of hockey including puck handling, passing, shooting, and teamwork. Participants will be place on teams with volunteer coaches. Team T-shirts are included and will be provided on the second week. Session length is 7 weeks. Format will be 30 minutes of team practice followed by 30 minute games. Sticks are provided, or you’re welcome to bring your own! This league provides school age children with a chance to socialize and compete with friends in a safe and instructional setting. Players will be placed on teams with volunteer coaches. Teams will be separated by division based on grade. Referees and team t-shirts will be included. Season length is 7 weeks. Games/practice will be held on Saturdays with 30 minute practice followed by a 30 minute game. 2 Day Pre-Season Girls’ Basketball Tune-Up
Grades: 9-12 Fee: Y Member $40 Community $60 Coach Joe Billante, along with other local high school coaches, will be running a two day basketball clinic for girls’ basketball pre-season conditioning. Sessions will focus on skills, drills, and conditioning. Gloucester, Rockport, and Manchester are all welcome to prep for the upcoming season. Pre-registration is required. Physical Therapy Screenings
If you experience pain or suffer an injury while participating in your sport or activity, it is important to consult a physical therapist. A prompt evaluation may save you from a more serious injury. We will be offering free physical therapy screenings presented by Spaulding Outpatient Center, Cape Ann. Licensed Physical Therapists will be available to examine problems such as tendonitis, sprains, strains, aches and pains. Sessions are by appointment or on a first come, first serve basis. Every dollar donated to our Y For All annual campaign is used to support local children, families and individuals through Y programs, membership and camp. Y For All is more than donors and dollars. The YMCA has recently launched a new planned giving initiative. Common planned gifts include a gift made through one’s will, life insurance policy, or retirement plan.
