HIGHLIGHTS FOR FALL I: Back To School Fitness Challenge

Reward yourself during the Fall Fitness Challenge by staying active and achieving your personal wellness goals at the Haverhill YMCA. Haverhill YMCA’s Fifth Annual Educator of the Year

In recognition of the extraordinary work educators do in our community, the Haverhill YMCA will be recognizing Educators who have made a significant difference in the lives of children. Nominations are now being accepted for the YMCA’s 5th Annual Educator of the Year Recognition Celebration on Wednesday, October 30th at DiBurro’s Function Hall. This is the only event of its kind in Haverhill, and it is your opportunity to recognize that special teacher who has made a significant difference in the lives of his/her students. All nominees will receive: a citation from the city and a nominee award and The Educator of the Year will receive: a citation from the city and the Educator of the Year award. Haverhill YMCA 23rd Annual Golf Tournament

On Monday, September 30 the Haverhill YMCA will be hosting it’s 23rd Annual Golf Tournament at the Atkinson Country Club. The proceeds raised from the golf tournament are used to help deserving kids and families. In 2013 our Y will give away more than $400,000 to over 3,000 individuals. PROGRAM INFORMATION PROGRAM REGISTRATION:

Our new website, launched in December, makes registering for a program easier than ever. While there are several new ways to learn about our programs and search, here are some tips: • Visit: www.northshoreymca.org • Look for the search box located on each program related page. • Search for programs by keyword, location, program area, age and day of the week. • Check off the classes you want to learn more about to read a description • Choose checkout, then sign into your account or create a new account. • Assign each program to someone on your membership. • Pay and print your receipt.

ONLINE CREDITS Online credits will be offered for the remainder of any money paid on programs. The amount refunded will be calculated at the time of the request. Credits will be offered for remaining class sessions, calculated when the request is made. You can request a credit form at the front desk or by contacting the director. CREDIT CARD OR CHECK REFUNDS The YMCA will issue a credit card or check refund: • If, for any reason, the YMCA cancels a class, participants will be offered the option for refund for that cancelled class • If a participant cancels their registration prior to the start of the program session • For classes missed due to illness (a doctor’s note is required) or • If you are not 100% satisfied with your class experience. Refunds will be offered for remaining class sessions, calculated when the request is made. You can request a refund form at the front desk or by contacting the director.

USAGE GUIDELINES • Non-swimmers and children 6 years and under must have a parent or guardian in the water with them during open swim. • Youth 9 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older to be in the building. • Youth 8 to 13 are allowed in our fitness center with an adult doing cardio only. Youth 10 to 13 with an adult are allowed to do weights. Youth 12 to 16 are allowed in group exercise classes with an adult. The adult must be a family member over the age of 18. • Youth ages 14 and up can use the entire fitness center without an adult.

ADAPTIVE Adaptive Swim Lessons

The program includes an introduction to the water and water adjustment activities, and it will be catered to each participants needs. Participants in this program may have a parent or an aide in the water to assist with activities if necessary. Ballet (3 Years)

Ages: 3 years Fee: Y Member $66 Community $99 Ballet Class involves lots of imagination to keep the interest and attention of our young 3 yr old students. Dancers use large motor skill movements such as jumping, skipping, hopping, and are made aware of music and rhythm. Exercises for building physical strength and coordination are offered in a FUN and nurturing atmosphere. The basic foundation positions are introduced. Students are also exposed to proper dance etiquette required in the dance studio with great posture and adorable curtsies. Class length, 45 minutes. Held in program room 1. Ballet & Intro Tap (4-6 Years)

Ages: 4-6 years Fee: Y Member $68 Community $102 Students are taught ballet positions at the centre and introduced to the ballet barre. Basic combinations across the floor, jumps and choreography. Dancers will learn exercises for building strength and coordination. At the end of class, we will have an introduction to Tap. Basic techniques focusing on rhythm. Class length, 60 minutes. YMCA Glee Club

Open to singers ages 12-18 years Fee: Members $35 Community $50 Introducing, the YMCA Glee Club! This group of singers will work with classically trained and incredibly talented professional vocal performer Samantha Gambaccini. Samantha will vocally coach the a capella group as they learn more about harmonies and performance techniques. The club will meet once a week and have the opportunity to perform at various community events on the North Shore. Auditions at the Haverhill YMCA September 10 & 11, 6:00-8:00pm. In School Enrichments & Intramurals

Grades: 1-5 Fee: Y Member $5/day Community $7/day In this after school option students will have the opportunity to play new adventure games, play fun intramural sports, do arts & crafts and participate in science discovery. This class is great fun and a healthy after school choice. A 60 minute fun filled afternoon session of adventure, discovery and enrichment intramurals. GYMNASTICS Parent & Tot Gym Classes

Through movement education children will develop body image, coordination, balance, peer socialization, music, movement, games and play. Many props are used such as balls, musical toys, parachutes and other bright and colorful objects that will attract your child’s attention!

Preschool Gymnastics

The recreational preschool gymnastics program is designed for boys & girls ages 4-6 who like to pursue gymnastics in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere. The emphasis in these classes is developing strength, flexibility and coordination through the use of gymnastic equipment as well as hoops, bean bags and balls. The children progress through the classes according to age and ability.

Kinder Gym I

Ages: 4-6 years Fee: Y Member $82 Community $123 Kinder Gym I develops balance, coordination, strength and motor skills. In this class children will be introduced to the basics of stretching, gymnastics skills and strength exercises in a fun and safe environment. Class length is 45 minutes. Boys Extreme Sports

Ages: 6 years & up Fee: Y Member $91 Community $136 In this action-packed class, boys use Y gymnastics equipment in creative ways to increase strength, flexibility and agility. This is a great conditioning class for other sports. HAV Y Tuesday 6:00pm

Rising Stars Class

Ages: 5 years & up Fee: Y Member $245 Community $367 Has your child completed Kinder Gym II or Jr & Sr Gym II? Are they looking for a new challenge? Sign your child up for the Rising Stars club! In this club the girls will be learning USA Gymnastics Level 1 routines. They will be practicing once a week for 90 minutes. This session is 16 weeks long. The girls will be performing in the gym show as well as an in house meet. The cost of this exciting club includes a club leotard! This is a fun new approach to gymnastics in the Haverhill YMCA! Ages: 5 years & up Fee: Y Member $265 Community $397 Has your child completed Kinder Gym III or Jr & Sr Gym III? Are they looking for a new challenge? Sign your child up for the Shooting Stars #1 club! In this club the girls will be learning USA Gymnastics Level 2 routines. They will be practicing once a week for two hours. This session is 16 weeks long. The girls will be performing in the gym show as well as an in house meet. The cost of this exciting club includes a club leotard! This is a fun new approach to gymnastics in the Haverhill YMCA! HAV Y Monday 6:00pm-8:00pm

Jr. Gym I & Swim Combo

Grades: 1-3 Fee: Y Member $98 Community $147 If your child loves gymnastics and swimming, then Jr. Gym & Swim was designed for your child. We have combined two of our most popular programs. The gymnastics will get their hearts pumping for 45 minutes, then off to the pool for a 30 minute swim lesson and 15 minutes of free swim. What a day at the Y! Girls Jr. & Sr. Gymnast I

Grades: 1 & up Fee: Y Member $91 Community $136 This class serves as an introduction to the sport of gymnastics. Starting in the beginner class promotes the confidence necessary in the sport of gymnastics. Basic gymnastics skills, body awareness and safety are emphasized and skills on all the available apparatus are introduced. Class length is one hour. Girls Jr. & Sr. Gymnast II

Girls Jr. & Sr. Gymnast III

Gymnasts will complete back handsprings on floor, back hip circles on bars and handstands on the beam! Instructor recommendation required. Class length is an hour and a half. GYMNASTICS TEAM

It is our goal to bring every young athlete to her fullest potential in gymnastics. The Y’s Gym Star’s coaching staff is extremely passionate about our role in guiding gymnasts through training and helping to develop into strong athletes both mentally and physically. We are dedicated to offering the best professional instruction in an organized program that sets a high standard. Our goal is to bring out the best in every gymnast!

Pre-Team (Invitation Only)

Ages: 5 years & up This is a pre-competitive program for girls ages 5 and up. Participants must have completed Sr. Gymnast IV, or have been recommended by an instructor. Emphasis is placed on mastery of Level 3 skills, flexibility, strength and balance. Pre Team gymnasts will learn a routine to perform at gym shows. Competitive Team Program

Ages: 5-18 years Currently the Gym Stars Gymnastics Team consists of a Level 4 - 7 Competitive Team. The gymnasts in this program are required to order a team uniform that will be worn at meets and events. The competitive season is November through July. Gymnasts will have the opportunity to qualify for State and Regional Competitions. In addition John Reyes is a N.E.A.A.U. Lightweight Karate Champion, and competed nationally.

SPORTS & RECREATION Adult Tae Kwon-Do

Ages: 18 years & up Fee: Y Member $74 Community $100 Tae Kwon-Do may be translated as “the art of the foot and fist” or “the art of kicking and punching.” Tae Kwon-Do is a unique form of martial arts. It combines combat techniques, self-defense, sport, exercise, meditation and philosophy. This active healthy choice class is taught by Alison and John Reyes. Class meets in Program Room 4. COMMUNITY EDUCATION YMCA Lifeguard Training

Ages: 16 years & up Fee: Y Member $290 Community $435 Students are trained in the nationally recognized YMCA Lifeguard Course including CPR, First Aid, 02 and AED. Certification is determined by successful completion of a comprehensive written exam and water test. Swimming skills are a prerequisite and attendance in all classes is mandatory. Participants must be at least 16 years of age by the start of the session. Must attend all classes. Please be sure to update your email address as there is online pre course work. YMCA Babysitting Course

Ages: 12 years & up Fee: Y Member $100 Community $120 This course will teach participants the fundamental components of becoming a successful babysitter. Potential babysitters will learn about their role and responsibilities as well learn decision making and problem solving skills through group activities, role playing scenarios and movies. Haverhill YMCA’s Fifth Annual Educator of the Year

In recognition of the extraordinary work educators do in our community, the Haverhill YMCA will be recognizing Educators who have made a significant difference in the lives of children. Nominations are now being accepted for the YMCA’s 5th Annual Educator of the Year Recognition Celebration on Wednesday, October 30th at DiBurro’s Function Hall. This is the only event of its kind in Haverhill, and it is your opportunity to recognize that special teacher who has made a significant difference in the lives of his/her students. All nominees will receive: a citation from the city and a nominee award and The Educator of the Year will receive: a citation from the city and the Educator of the Year award. On Monday, September 30 the Haverhill YMCA will be hosting it’s 23rd Annual Golf Tournament at the Atkinson Country Club. The proceeds raised from the golf tournament are used to help deserving kids and families. In 2013 our Y will give away more than $400,000 to over 3,000 individuals. Haverhill Rotary’s Rubber Duck Regatta Haverhill Rotary’s Rubber Duck Regatta is scheduled for Saturday, September 7th – all proceeds go to benefit local non-profits, including the Haverhill YMCA! VOLUNTEERISM When you choose to give your time and volunteer at the Y, you are truly changing lives. The affordable programs and services that the Y is able to offer depend on the efforts of our tireless volunteers.
