ADAPTIVE Adaptive Preschool Gymnastics Ages: Fee:

4-6 years Y Member $109 Community $154 Designed for children with special needs who love to jump, roll and bounce. Each lesson consists of a warm -up to improve flexibility and instruction on all of the gymnastics apparatus. Developmental skills emphasized are balance, strength, coordination and the all-important listening. In addition, this class will help your child improve their gross motor skills. Adaptive Climbing Program Ages: Fee:

All ages Y Member $50 Community $75 A one-on-one class for youth with physical or developmental challenges. Parents will be taught belay techniques and both parent and instructor will work with the climbers to develop confidence and improve basic climbing skills. Flexible scheduling is available. Fitness for Teens with Special Needs Ages: Fee:

Training Program for Special Olympics Swim Team

8 years & older Y Member $82 Community $123 This class is designed to prepare swimmers with physical and mental disabilities for a Special Olympics Swim Team, teaching swim techniques and drills for the four competitive strokes, starts and turns. The focus of this course is on building endurance, components of competition and goal setting. Swimmers must be able to swim 1 length of the big pool. Class length is 1 hour and meets in big pool. Kinder Gym II

4-6 years Y Member $135 Community $200 This class combines the fun in the pool and the gym! In the gym, we provide games and activities which help your child develop physical and social skills. In the pool, your child will work on water adjustment, the use of flotation devices, water safety and having fun! This class starts with gymnastics followed by swimming, so we encourage children to come dressed in their bathing suits for an easy transition to swim. Class length is 1 hour 30 minutes. Participants will receive progressive skill instruction on our new competitive trampoline which is extremely bouncy. Our newly installed overhead spotting rig makes learning flips safe, fun and easy. COMPETITIVE GYMNASTICS Gymnastics Team

Our program, which is ranked 6th nationally, strives to train, teach, and motivate children to achieve their potential in competitive gymnastics. Our program consists of USAG levels 1-9. Gymnasts compete in local, State, and Regional Championships throughout the year. Our mission as coaches is to have a positive impact on your child’s future by helping her to become a happy, healthy and responsible team member. 8 & Up Y Member $68 Community $102 This Triathlon Training Program teaches the skills to prepare your child to compete in a triathlon. including improving physical fitness, exercise and bike safety to make the experience both fun and safe. This course prepares kids to compete in the New England Kids Triathlon in July 2014. Prior to the program participants must be able to ride a bike without training wheels and be able to swim 50 yards. LVO Sunday 11:15am

Orientation - Youth Cardiovascular

Ages: 8-11 years Fee: Y Member Only FREE Two sessions teaching youth members ages 8-11 years old how to properly use the cardiovascular equipment and the Youth Fitness Center Policies. After the completion of the orientations, the youth will be permitted to use the fitness center during the age appropriate hours. Parents must attend both of the orientations. FIT-TASTIC KIDS

FIT-tastic Kids, a program developed by the YMCA of the North Shore, teaches kids ages 8 to 14 how to eat a healthier diet and increase daily physical activity. In this FREE program, children learn how to make healthy food choices and will bring home recipes and fitness ideas to their families to continue healthy lifestyle habits at home. The goal is for both kids and their families to be FIT-tastic together. FIT-tastic Kids offers flexible scheduling for each family to begin at any time, includes an 8-week Y youth membership and is free, thanks to the generosity of donors and grantors. Each week’s session will be different utilizing agility , cardio, strength, endurance, and team/leadership building skills while having fun. LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT Leaders Club

The YMCA Leaders Club works with middle and high school students to focus on developing positive life skills and leadership qualities by connecting the club to community service projects with local non-profit organizations. In addition to volunteering, the Club conducts exercises in democratic decision-making, assessing and understanding community needs, understanding cultural diversity and team building projects. The Club meets weekly during the school year Thursdays at 6pm. No registration is required, and all are welcome to stop in and check it out.

ADVENTURE YMCA Mountaineer Patch Program The Adventure Department will provide all youth participants with the chance to learn skills through our different classes, and earning recognition along the way. Some examples of classes include a wide variety of outdoor and indoor skills, including rock climbing, survival, archery, map and compass, and nature. During each level, if a class is completed, the child will earn a bead. Once the classes are completed at that level, a patch is earned and can advance to the next level of classes. We hope this new program will get youth interested in continuing classes with the Adventure Department in the future. Prerequisites: Tread Water (2 minutes), swim 100 yards front crawl, 50 yards each of elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke; surface dive, feet first surface dive, feet first surface dive in 8-10 feet of water and swim under water 15 feet. Candidates must also sprint 60 feet in the water, then perform a surface dive to 8-10 feet of water, pick up a dive ring from the bottom, surface, tread water for 1 minute legs only and replace the object back to the pool bottom. Swim the remaining distance, hoist yourself out of the water and perform compressions on an adult mannequin for 1 minute, then walk quickly to the lifeguard chair and climb up.

Participants must provide an email at registration in order to receive links from ASHI to take CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and O2 oxygen Administration. Front Desk Volunteer

Duties could include greeting guests, answering phones, handing out towels and locker keys, photocopying, and light filing.

Swim Lesson Helper

Duties could include greeting parents and children, helping younger swimmers with bubbles and getting into the water, assisting instructor with other lesson-related tasks, both in and out of the pool.

Administrative Support

Duties could include mailings, data entry, filing, research, marketing and special projects.

Middle and High School Youth Sport Volunteering

Students age 14 years and older to learn how to teach children’s sports classes. The first few classes are held in the conference room learning how to instruct and facilitate practice plans for sports classes. Final classes will conclude with teaching a child’s sports class.
