We’d like to collectively welcome you to Y Summer Camp 2015! Over the course of this summer we look forward to providing each child with a safe, fun and educational experience that will create memories that will last a lifetime. We pride ourselves on offering a camp for any interest your child may have, and we hope you find the information enclosed in this guide helpful in highlighting our wide variety of options. Please take a moment and read over the key information regarding registration (new and improved for Summer 2015), brief policies and procedures and payment information. As you explore all the exciting programs and activities in this guide, you will find contact information for each of us. Y summer camps are for everyone – regardless of income. The Y provides financial assistance for families who are unable to pay the full camp fee. Subsidies are available thanks to the generous support of “Y For All” annual donors and United Way contributions. Contact your local Y or visit our website at www.northshoreymca.org for a confidential financial assistance application or to make a contribution. Applications should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the start of the camp session to allow for processing.

A majority of our camps offer Morning and Afternoon Extended Care, so you can drop your child off as early as 7:30am and pick up as late as 6:00pm. Early Bird and Late Bird activities will be conducted by our staff. Fee: $30/week (inlcudes am and pm)

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY OUR STAFF

Our caring staff empower campers to learn about the world, develop interpersonal skills and engage in new and creative activities. We hire all staff based on Department of Public Health guidelines including formal interviews, experience, training and extensive background checks. All are CPR and First-Aid certified and participate in a sevenday training that includes youth development, leadership skills and activity planning.

Our camp curriculums focus on building self-esteem, confidence and social skills while increasing independence and health and wellness awareness. Your camper will have fun, make new friends and create memories that last a lifetime.

Registration

The YMCA of the North Shore makes registering and paying for camp easy and convenient!* Parents can register in person at the front desk or online, and can choose from one of the three following payment methods: •

Pay in full at the time of registration.

Enroll in our automatic payment plan for weekly camp billing using either a credit/debit card or bank account. Never worry about remembering to pay! Secure your spot with a $25 deposit which can be credited for other camps or programs up until seven days prior to the start of the camp session.

Pay a $25 non-refundable deposit at time of registration and then pay the balance at least seven days prior to the start of camp.

*Please note, an emergency phone number and email contact are required at time of registration.

Parent Handook & Enrollment Packet

A Parent Handbook and Camp Enrollemnt Packet will be mailed or emailed when registration is complete. You can also find them online.

Prior to June 1, 2015, you will receive a refund for registration cancellations. After June 1, the $25 deposit is non-refundable. Exceptions are made only if accompanied by a doctor’s note. Families may make changes up to seven days prior to the start of camp without penalty. Once a camp session has commenced, to receive a refund, cancellation requests must be accompanied with a doctor’s note.

CAMP CHANGE POLICY

All camp changes must be done in writing and submitted to the camp registrar. All campers receive one free change throughout the season, and will be charged a $15 fee per change per camper after that.

SAFETY & SECURITY

Safety is our number one priority. Salem YMCA camps comply with state regulations and are licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Background checks are conducted on all staff and volunteers.

SALEM YMCA Salem YMCA Day Camps provide a safe and enriching environment for campers to participate in healthy, developmentally appropriate activities and learning experiences. Our camps focus on building self-esteem, confidence and social skills while increasing independence and health and wellness awareness. Your camper will have fun and make new friends while exploring new experiences

EXPLORERS CAMP

Limited to 150 campers per week Ages: 5-12 years, co-ed Y Explorers Day Camp provides quality traditional day camp experiences that help children grow in spirit, mind and body. All programs are designed to teach the positive Y values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility—all while having fun! The quality of your child’s experience is our top priority. Campers participate in regularly scheduled group activities and frequently interact with all campers throughout the day.

Explorers Leaders in Training Camp (LIT)

Limited to 7 campers per week Ages: 13-15 years, co-ed This program is a great opportunity for our older campers to continue their camp experience! LIT’s will develop new skills through participation in service learning activities and creating specific camp projects as they begin their transition toward becoming future camp leaders. LIT’s will participate in daily activities; assisting Camp staff with younger camp groups and programming all while enjoying the excitement of summer camp!

Young Pioneers

Limited to 40 campers per week Ages: 5-8 years, co-ed Young Pioneers camp is a great way for kids to spend their summer enjoying all the Y has to offer! Located at the Salem YMCA, kids will spend their days dancing in the studio, running in the gym, swimming in our pool, playing in the parks, participating in exciting theme weeks and creating masterful hands-on art projects. Campers will also have the opportunity to attend our weekly field trips. Our highly qualified staff are excited to make your child’s camp experience one they will never forget! Ages: Entering Grades 3-8 Focus on learning the dramatic and comedic side of acting with classic influences such as Shakespeare and the ancient Greeks! Create strong characters using clues in scripts. Discover different ways of acting and strengthen your skills with this one week specialty camp! This camp is led by Performing Arts Director Nicole Leotsakos. Ages: Entering Grades 8-12 Our most advanced theatre camp gives young stars an opportunity to develop their talents while discovering what makes them unique as theatre artists. Specialized staff in singing, acting, and dancing will provided focus work for all campers. From auditions and casting to blocking and choreography, the program culminates with a final performance for family and friends that leave campers with memories that will last a lifetime. Show off all your hard work with a performance for your friends and family on the last day of camp in the beautifully airconditioned theatre space. Our highly trained theatre artists are excited to help you explore your interests in the performing arts, discover unknown skills, and have a ball! Come play with us this summer! YMCA OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP ADVENTURE AWAITS—FIND YOURSELF IN THE GREAT OUTDOORS!

The YMCA Outdoor Leadership Development program helps young people make bold strides toward competent selfhood. Through extraordinary wilderness experiences, we nurture multi-cultural leadership skills in youth 10–18 years old. We offer expeditions that range from 1-3 days, including backpacking, rock climbing, fishing, yoga and art, and the kind of good-natured fun that leads to long-term friendships. You don’t have to have experience or outdoor gear, but you do need an open heart, an inquisitive mind and a thirst for adventure. Join us in exploring nature’s sprawling grandeur—we’ll teach you the leadership skills you need to thrive in the wild, as well as in high school, college and beyond!

Weekend Sampler

Ages: 10-14 years, co-ed Dates: 6/14-6/15 Fees: Y Member $120 Community $160 Get your toes wet in the great outdoors before the summer even begins! Try a weekend of hiking, camping and water activities in the White Mountains for a sampler of what the outdoors has to offer.

Introductory Adventures Camp

Fees: Y Member $360 Community $410 Ages: 10-14 years, co-ed Dates: 7/14-7/18 For teens age 10-14, this week-long program offers a variety of outdoor activities but keeps hiking distances and pack weights appropriate for younger participants. Activities will include hiking and rock climbing in the White Mountains, kayaking and tubing on the Saco River and the team high ropes elements at Sterling Center Camp. Campers will learn and practice basic camping skills.

Advanced Backpacking & Leadership Training

Ages: 14-18 years, co-ed Fees: Y Member $360 Community $410 Dates: 7/31-8/2 Participants learn valuable wilderness skills and develop essential life skills. This unique combination fosters an appreciation for the environment, develops self-esteem, instills a spirit of adventure, and promotes teamwork, friendship, and a sense of community through memorable wilderness experiences. Great views and great excitement await, but the focus of this trip is purely hiking and campers should be prepared for strenuous activity.

Presidential Traverse Adventure

Ages: 14-18 years, co-ed Fees: Y Member $410 Community $460 Dates: 6/30-7/3 Hike towards independence on this epic trail in the White Mountains of NH. Stay at high peaks shelters and wake up to beautiful sunrises above the clouds. Participants learn valuable wilderness skills and develop essential life skills. This unique combination fosters an appreciation for the environment, develops self-esteem, instills a spirit of adventure, and promotes teamwork, friendship, and a sense of community through memorable wilderness experiences. Great views and great excitement await, but the focus of this trip is purely hiking and campers should be prepared for strenuous activity.


Dennis Heenan Basketball Camp

Limited to 30 campers per week Ages: 5-14 years, co-ed Sessions: 7/20-7/24; 7/27-7/31 Location: Salem YMCA/Salem Common Your kids will grow and learn about more than basketball at our week-long camp. Our morning skills sessions build upon each other to help guide afternoon games. This camp is held outside on Salem Common weather permitting and includes daily swim times at the Salem YMCA indoor pool.

Adventure Camp

Limited to 16 campers per week Ages: 10-14 years, co-ed Sessions: 8/3-8/7; 8/10-8/14 Location: Camp Naumkeag, 85 Memorial Drive, Salem Extended care available: $30/session (includes am & pm) The Salem YMCA Adventure Camp is more than just a summer camp. Our instructors deliver a progressive outdoor experience starting with skill building and culminating with real leadership— and plenty of fun along the way! Your camper will experience kayaking along the Ipswich River and the coastal shores, hiking to new heights, and challenging themselves on our YMCA of the North Shore high ropes courses.

Sports Mania Camp

Grades: 1-5, co-ed Session: 8/24-8/28 Location: Salem YMCA/Salem Common Love them all? This is the camp for you! You’ll get to play them all in this fun and engaging camp. Y staff will lead your child through drills, skills, and games in basketball, soccer, flag football, street hockey...and many more.

Soccer Camp

Grades: 1-5, co-ed Session: 8/17-8/21 Location: Salem YMCA/Salem Common Spend a week training with north shore club coaches and senior varsity players! Coaches will lead you through drills, and small group games. Daily schedules will include swim time and full team games.
