Adaptive Climbing Program Ages: Fee:
All ages Y Member $50 Community $75 A one-on-one class for youth with physical or developmental challenges. Parents will be taught belay techniques and both parent and instructor will work with the climbers to develop confidence and improve basic climbing skills. Flexible scheduling is available. Adaptive Swim Lessons and Open Swim Ages: Fee:

Our adaptive lessons are modified to work with individual needs. This time in the pool is allotted for free play after a structured lesson. Training Program for Special Olympics Swim Team Ages: Fee:
8 years & older Y Member $84 Community $126 This class is designed to prepare swimmers with physical and mental disabilities for a Special Olympics Swim Team, teaching swim techniques and drills for the four competitive strokes, starts and turns. The focus of this course is on building endurance, components of competition and goal setting. Swimmers must be able to swim 1 length of the big pool. Fee: Members $65 Community $70 Glee Open to singers ages 11-18 years Glee Club seeks to provide young musicians with advanced level singing and musicianship. Glee Club sings all styles of music and even works together to create some of their own arrangements. A committed performance group, Glee participates in exciting events across the North Shore. Glee Jr. Open to singers ages 8-12 years Learn the ins and outs of a cappella singing! This is a preparation class for overall musicianship, group singing and a cappella style. This group may perform some concerts, but will primarily prepare the students for Glee Club or future advanced a cappella groups. Orientation - Youth Cardiovascular

FIT-TASTIC KIDS FIT-tastic Kids, a program developed by the YMCA of the North Shore, teaches kids ages 8 to 14 how to eat a healthier diet and increase daily physical activity. In this FREE program, children learn how to make healthy food choices and will bring home recipes and fitness ideas to their families to continue healthy lifestyle habits at home. The goal is for both kids and their families to be FIT-tastic together. FIT-tastic Kids offers flexible scheduling for each family to begin at any time, includes an 8-week Y youth membership and is free, thanks to the generosity of donors and grantors. Leaders Club The YMCA Leaders Club works with high school students to focus on developing positive life skills and leadership qualities by connecting the club to community service projects with local non-profit organizations. In addition to volunteering, the Club conducts exercises in democratic decision-making, assessing and understanding community needs, understanding cultural diversity and team building projects. The Club meets weekly during the school year Thursdays at 6pm. No registration is required, and all are welcome to stop in and check it out!

Babysitting is not just “watching” the children, but being responsible for their safety and well being. The Child and Babysitting Safety training program is designed to focus on supervising, caring for, and keeping children and infants safe in babysitting settings. The program provides fundamental information in the business of babysitting, proper supervision, basic care-giving skills, and responding properly to ill or injured children or infants. Prerequisites: Tread Water (2 minutes), swim 100 yards front crawl, 50 yards each of elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke; surface dive, feet first surface dive, feet first surface dive in 8-10 feet of water and swim under water 15 feet. Candidates must also sprint 60 feet in the water, then perform a surface dive to 8-10 feet of water, pick up a dive ring from the bottom, surface, tread water for 1 minute legs only and replace the object back to the pool bottom. Swim the remaining distance, hoist yourself out of the water and perform compressions on an adult mannequin for 1 minute, then walk quickly to the lifeguard chair and climb up. Participants must provide an email at registration in order to receive links from ASHI to take CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and O2 oxygen Administration. It is a requirement that participants pass all three on-line courses prior to the first day of class, print out the certificates of completion, and bring them on the first day of class. The first day of class participants will be assigned 3 hours of home study which must be completed prior to taking the practical and written exam. SCUBA Learn to dive with our PADI Open Water SCUBA course. Get certified for your next vacation! There are 3 components - classroom, pool dives and 4 ocean dives. The class runs two days split between classroom and pool. There are also two days of doing 2 ocean dives. PADI is the most recognized SCUBA agency in the world. The SCUBA certification never expires and is valid worldwide. Participants will be certified to dive up to 60 feet. All equipment rental is provided in the course. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA
Fee: FREE Participants work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve their goals such as building muscle mass and strength; increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem. By focusing on the whole person and not the disease, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is helping people move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body. The program includes: Free 12-week adult Y membership Two free 75 minute classes per week Full access to the Y seven days a week CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPATION Class is available for individuals currently undergoing cancer treatment as well as those who have completed their treatment and are looking to regain health and improve quality of life. Course content includes the practical application of cardiorespiratory and neuromuscular exercise science, leadership and teaching skills for group exercise instructors, behavior modification, motivation information and a practical session on general exercise selection and execution. Introduction to Memoir
January 15, 1:00pm-2:30pm A presentation by Photographer Ulrike Welsch. FREE -Register at Welcome Center. Join us for a slide presentation about Ms. Welsch’s travels near and far. After the presentation, Ms. Welsch will answer questions and offer tips for photographing in foreign lands and touch upon photographic equipment and techniques. Ms. Welsch was the first female staff photographer of the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe where she captured award winning images. To date she has published thirteen solo picture books.

Squash Box Ladder
Fee: Included in the Squash Annual Program Fee Squash players will be divided into boxes of four to six players of comparable ability. Players will schedule matches against each other once during the two-month session. In the next session, the top person in each box will move up one box and the bottom person will move down one box. This has proven to be a very successful way to meet and play with people at your level. Recommended for new members. (New 2012 “On the Guard Lifeguard Program”) Pre-requisites: Tread Water (2 minutes), swim 100 yards front crawl, 50 yards each of elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke; surface dive, feet first surface dive, feet first surface dive in 8-10 feet of water and swim under water 15 feet. Candidates must also sprint 60 feet in the water, then perform
a surface dive to 8-10 feet of water, pick up a dive ring from the bottom, surface, tread water for 1 minute legs only and replace the object back to the pool bottom. Swim the remaining distance, hoist yourself out of the water and perform compressions on an adult mannequin for 1 minute, then walk quickly to the lifeguard chair and climb up. Participants must provide an email at registration in order to receive links from ASHI to take CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and O2 oxygen Administration. It is a requirement that participants pass all three on-line courses prior to the first day of class, print out the certificates of completion, and bring them on the first day of class. The first day of class participants will be assigned 3 hours of home study which must be completed prior to taking the practical and written exam. The Lynch/van Otterloo YMCA is a charity. We are a non-profit organization focused on community and human services. 100% of your donation goes directly to those in need. Every dollar donated to our Annual Campaign is used to support local children, families and individuals through Y programs, membership and camp. The Annual Campaign is more than donors and dollars, it is a grassroots effort led by dozens of volunteers and businesses from our communities.
Duties could include greeting guests, answering phones, handing out towels and locker keys, photocopying, and light filing.

Swim Lesson Helper Duties could include greeting parents and children, helping younger swimmers with bubbles and getting into the water, assisting instructor with other lesson-related tasks, both in and out of the pool.
Administrative Support Duties could include mailings, data entry, filing, research, marketing and special projects.
Middle and High School Youth Sport Volunteering Students age 14 years and older to learn how to teach children’s sports classes. The first few classes are held in the conference room learning how to instruct and facilitate practice plans for sports classes. Final classes will conclude with teaching a child’s sports class.
