YMCA
SUMMER 2019 Activities Programme Stoke-on-Trent
Let the fun begin
SUMMER Activities
YMCA GO! YMCA GO! is a citywide project for young people aged 10 – 18. YMCA GO! offers exciting activities, wonderful experiences, incredible learning and inspiring discovery opportunities for young people. YMCA GO! has something for everyone and these activities include drama, the arts, sports, gaming, youth leadership programmes, cooking and so much more.
SPACE Scheme
SPACE provides fun activities for 8 - 17 year-olds during the summer holidays across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. Space is funded and coordinated by The Staffordshire Commissioner but is planned and delivered by a wide range of public and voluntary organisations, including Staffordshire Police.
Community Picnics
Back for 2019, YMCA North Staffordshire’s Community Picnics will be taking place across the city over the summer holidays. Everyone is welcome to our free Community Picnics. We will have food and drink, arts & crafts and sports activities as we believe in healthy and active kids. We cannot guarantee that the sun will shine, but we can guarantee is that you will have a fantastic time.

TIPS FOR SUMMER
BEST SUMMER EVER As the summer approaches, children all over the country are looking forward to beating the heat by jumping into the water and soaking up the sun. While pools, lakes and rivers can bring a great deal of joy to people of all ages, they can also be dangerous hazards. That’s why it’s important to make sure you are doing everything you can to keep everyone safe. 1. Teach children to always ask for permission to go near water 2. Empty paddling pools immediately after use and turn upside down 3. Only swim when and where there is lifeguard on duty; never swim alone 4. Children who are beginners should stay within arm’s reach of an adult in the water 5. If a child is missing, check the pool first 6. Know CPR 7. Enrol your children in water safety or swim lessons 8. Open water is often much colder than it looks - this can affect your ability to swim 9. Always look for warning and guidance signs 10. Get out of the water as soon as you start to feel cold If someone is in difficulty in the water shout reassurance to them and shout for help and call the emergency services (call 999 or 112) More information can be found here: rlss.org.uk (Royal Life Saving Society UK)
WE LOVE SUMMER
Some more useful information for your family.
Even when outside temperatures are only in the low 70s, the temperature in a car can reach 110 in less than an hour. Tell your kids to never play in cars. Before family road trips, check your tires, lights, wipers and fluid levels. Keep bottled water handy in case your car overheats or breaks down in hot weather. Insist that everyone in your family wears a properly-fitting helmet every time they ride a bike, scooter or any other fast moving piece of equipment. Ensure that playgrounds have a safe surface, such as tire crumb or mulch. Dirt and grass will not protect your child from falls. Check for broken or missing pieces and sharp or rusty edges on playground equipment. Teach kids to play on equipment built for their age range and to use equipment the way it was intended. Most important of all, have a safe and happy summer!
