What can I expect to do?
Our YMCA Forever Fit classes are led by qualified YMCA fitness instructors and are set to lively music to help you get moving all while having fun. Each class is made up of four parts which focus on improving participants’ aerobic fitness, balance, strength and flexibility: • Warm up • Low impact aerobics • Muscular strength and endurance • Stretching and relaxation
How do I get started?
We welcome you to join us at any YMCA Forever Fit class. No registration is required, just drop in! Once you join us, our friendly YMCA Staff will provide you with a welcome letter. This gives you general information and suggests you see your doctor to get their support for your participation in our program.

YMCA Forever Fit will help you: 1. Improve joint flexibility 2. Increase muscle strength and toning 3. Improve heart and lung fitness 4. Promote better posture 5. Improve balance 6. Promote relaxation and reduce stress 7. Meet other people 8. Prevent illness or disease
In 1979 the YMCA Preventive Medicine Centre initiated the Elderobics program with a start-up financial grant from Health and Welfare Canada New Horizons Projects. Now known as Forever Fit, it comprises a physical fitness and health education program geared for men and women over 55 years, offered two to three times per week in a number of church halls, senior centres, and community locations in HRM. YMCA Forever Fit is guided by a Volunteer Advisory Committee made up entirely of participants from each site and certified instructors. YMCA Forever Fit, as a low-cost self-sustaining group, very successfully improves participants’ aerobic fitness, balance, strength and flexibility and creates lasting social friendships.
