Child Care Centres Where potential grows!
YMCA Programs We play to learn at the Y! That’s why we’re unique.
YMCA Child Care Centres implement YMCA ‘Playing to Learn’ curriculum, our nationally recognized YMCA curriculum that helps children in our care discover learning through creative play while aligning with developmental benchmarks. We’ve learned that kids at play are already building the foundation for their major life skills, including language and literacy, mathematics, science and technology, and the arts. YMCA ‘Playing to Learn’ takes all areas of your child’s development into account, including their physical, emotional, cognitive, and social behaviour.
At the Y, your child will: • Visit Playgrounds, Parks & Ride on the Ferry • Explore Museums & Climb Citadel Hill • Read & Sing Songs in HRM Libraries • Swim Every Tuesday at HRM Pools (Seniors) • Participate In Our ‘Roots of Empathy’ Program & Engage With Infants • Observe Nature at the Public Gardens • Interact with Seniors through our YMCA Grand Friends Program • Explore Halifax and Dartmouth Waterfronts To help energize your busy children, each day they will be provided with two snacks (morning and afternoon) and a full lunch which meets the Standards for Food and Nutrition set by the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services.

To ensure the best experience for families, YMCA requirements of employment as a YMCA Early Childhood Educator or YMCA volunteers state that: • Educators are certified in First Aid and CPR • Educators undergo Criminal Record Checks • Educators undergo Child Abuse Registry Checks • Educators are committed to ongoing professional development and continuing education • Educators work in partnership with several educational institutions an programs within the HRM to mentor students to gain valuable workplace experience through practicum placements
“They go out of their way to go above and beyond. They do Grand Friends, luncheons, graduation ceremonies and many movie nights that are not at all part of their requirement. They are truly a blessing to the Y family.” – Parent, YMCA Child Care Centres
