Y TOWN PLAY HOURS ALL AGES Complete with a house, a park and “real” stores, young children can discover their interests and potential through play, hands-on learning experiences, and role playing in our mini play town. SPRING CAMP AGES 3-11 Come to the Y during spring break for 4 days of non-stop fun. Bring a bag lunch and we’ll provide the snack. Register by Apr 2.
CPR/AED FOR THE COMMUNITY AGES 12+ This CPR/AED certification class is done through the American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI). The class will be done in a blended style - two hours of the class will be completed online and two hours are hands on skills in the classroom. The online instructions will be sent to the participants one week before the class and will need to be completed by the date of the class. The certification covers infant, child and adult CPR and is good for two years. This class is for anyone who is required to be CPR/AED certified for job purposes, for parents with small children or anyone wanting to learn a new skill. CHILD CARE MAGIC PLACE AFTERSCHOOL CARE AGES 5-12 The YMCA Magic Place is a fun, safe and supportive afterschool program that offers supervised homework help and tutoring, athletic activities, varied indoor games and projects at Roanoke City, Salem City and Botetourt County public schools. AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD TRAINING AGES 15+ American Red Cross Lifeguarding course teaches candidates the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. Water rescues, first aid, CPR and AED certifications are obtained through this course. Students must successfully complete the pre-test skills, skills test assessment and have a written test score of 80% or higher. Registration deadline is a week before the class begins. YMCA SWIM INSTRUCTOR TRAINING AGES 15+ Get the skills you need to teach YMCA swim lessons to all ages. This course provides participants with the basic knowledge and skills to teach YMCA swim lessons to parent-child pairs, preschoolers, youth and adults. It includes both land and pool sessions, lesson planning, teaching methodology, class organization, class components and skills for the YMCA progressive program. The course also covers the Y’s expectations for instructors and outlines their responsibilities for teaching YMCA Aquatics classes that are student centered, values oriented and safe and effective in teaching swim lessons. TEEN LEADERS AGES 12+ Teen Leaders’ Club trains teens to better serve their community and the Y as they encourage each other to make a positive impact for present and future generations.
