Family Friendly Programs Family fun doesn’t have to break the bank. Join us for free play time in our XRKade, on our inflatable obstacle courses and in our family-friendly pool. Strength and Cardio Equipment Each Y has a variety of strength and cardio equipment for members. Whether you prefer running on a treadmill, cycling beside a friend, reading while on an elliptical trainer, lifting free weights or using strength training equipment, you can do it at the YMCA.
Quality Child Care We provide quality child care in our Child Watch while you’re working out or participating in other Y activities for up to two hours per day. If you’re looking for longer afterschool care, we offer that too. Check out the Y’s Magic Place for elementary afterschool care and Y Pass for afterschool care for Andrew Lewis middle schoolers.
Swimming and Water Activities All of our facilities have year-round indoor pools that offer recreational swim and water aerobic activities. Certified lifeguards staff our pools, and our swim lessons are taught by trained instructors.

CAMP Summer Camp at the Kirk Family Y is a great way for kids to explore their world and make new friends. POLLIWOG: This class is for the non-swimmer or beginner swimmer. Children will learn water safety, develop swim strokes and adjust to the water.
MINNOW: For advanced beginning swimmers who can front/back float 1 minute, tread water 20 seconds without flotation, front/back alternating and symmetrical paddle 15 yards without flotation.
FLYING FISH: For advanced swimmers who have completed the Fish level, which includes 50 yards of continuous freestyle and backstroke, elementary backstroke, breaststroke and sidestrokes.
GUPPY: For beginning swimmers who can submerge head under water, front/back paddle 5 yards without flotation.
FISH: For advanced swimmers who can tread water 1 minute without flotation, freestyle/backstroke/breaststroke/ elementary backstroke/sidestroke 25 yards with effective kicks and breathing.

SALEM SPRINT TRIATHLON Ages 12 Children ages 12 and up are invited to participate in the 2nd annual Salem Sprint Triathlon at the Salem Family YMCA. The inviting and exciting course begins in the Y’s 8-lane, indoor pool with a 300-yard snake swim, continues with a rolling and scenic 15K bike course and finishes with a 5K run through Salem. Kids can be a part of a relay team or compete as individuals. Family teams are welcome. High school teams are encouraged to participate and will be eligible for special awards. POLLIWOG: This class is for the non-swimmer or beginner swimmer. Children will learn water safety, develop swim strokes and adjust to the water.
MINNOW: For advanced beginning swimmers who can front/back float 1 minute, tread water 20 seconds without flotation, front/back alternating and symmetrical paddle 15 yards without flotation.
FLYING FISH: For advanced swimmers who have completed the Fish level, which includes 50 yards of continuous freestyle and backstroke, elementary backstroke, breaststroke and sidestrokes.
GUPPY: For beginning swimmers who can submerge head under water, front/back paddle 5 yards without flotation.
FISH: For advanced swimmers who can tread water 1 minute without flotation, freestyle/backstroke/breaststroke/ elementary backstroke/sidestroke 25 yards with effective kicks and breathing.

They will participate in trainings dealing with safety, motivation, problem-solving, organization as well as a review of the Y mission and our core values. They will demonstrate their passion and desire for leadership as they plan and lead activities in our summer camp programs.
