Dear Friends,

Deanna Burns, Child Watch/Adventure Zone Coordinator dburns@ymca-snoco.org 425 224 8041

Spring and summer are here and the Mill Creek YMCA has tons of great activities to keep you and your entire family happily busy this time of year.

Daniel Clements, Member Experience Director dclements@ymca-snoco.org 425 224 8045

From summer camps to swimming lessons and even updated wellness classes, you will find new and enhanced programs and classes throughout the Mill Creek Y this summer. A new program this summer, Leaders in Training (LIT), is a two-week session for teens ages 14-16. LIT will give teens the opportunity to learn valuable skills like group facilitation, working with youth, and certifications all in a hands on setting. Check out our camp section on page 13 for more information. Keep an eye out for some new cardio equipment starting to arrive including seven treadmills, two AMTs to replace ellipticals, and a new rowing machine. We also have some functional training pieces that will be added to our Group Exercise room for personal and group training to add to your workouts. We hope you enjoy the update! We are excited to serve you and your family this summer. If there is anything we can do to make your experience better, please contact me directly.

SUMMER 2017 | MILL CREEK FAMILY YMCA

SWIM, SPORTS & PLAY SPORTS LEAGUES The Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy habits they’ll carry with them throughout their lives. Plus, the benefits are far greater than just physical health. Whether it’s gaining the confidence that comes from learning a new skill or building the positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, participating in sports at the Y is about building the whole child, from the inside out.

FALL OUTDOOR SOCCER Ages 3-9 BE GOAL ORIENTED! Youth Soccer is an exciting sport combining team play and individual skills. YMCA youth soccer promises no try outs, no getting cut, and no bench warmers! Every child plays at least half of every game while making friends and learning new techniques. Equipment, field size, and player number are age specific to increase involvement and touches on the soccer ball. Participants will improve basic soccer skills, learn good sportsmanship, and have fun!

The YMCA approach to Youth Sports is different from many leagues. We focus on the four YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Every child gets equal playing time and we encourage fair play, positive competition, and family involvement. Our goal is to enable each player to excel in that other game we’re all familiar with: the game of life. All sports and divisions are co-ed.

Season:

YMCA SUMMERBALL: T-BALL & COACH PITCH Ages 3-6 This program is designed for younger ages to help players learn basic baseball skills, such as batting, catching, throwing, and basic game play. All children are encouraged to play, getting equal chances to bat, run bases, and play in the outfield, Teams will practice once a week with games on Saturdays.

COMPETITIVE SWIMMING

ROOKIE LEAGUE Ages 3-4 This instructional program is an introduction to baseball that emphasizes participation, fun, and teamwork. Players learn the proper techniques and the fundamentals of catching, throwing, fielding, hitting off a tee, while learning the basic rules of the game. MINOR LEAGUE Ages 5-6 This is a coach pitch division. Coaches throw under or overhand from approximately 30 feet away. No one strikes out. After five pitches a child may hit off a tee. Will tells of his cross country experience, and uses this event to illustrate how an average person can do more than they thought possible. Thursday

This workshop involves learning about the types of decisions that might need to be made, considering those decisions ahead of time, and then letting others know about your preferences. Now is the time to plan so you can be sure to get the health care you want! Knowing how you would decide takes some of the burden off family and friends. Have the conversation. SOCIAL RESPONSIBLITY IMPACTING TOMORROW TOGETHER Did you know that the Y has an Endowment Fund and if you pledge support to the fund you are a member of our Heritage Club? Did you know this opportunity is available to everyone, at any age and income level? All you need is a passion for the Y and a desire to support the Y into the future. Making a gift or pledge to the Endowment Fund is easy and often doesn’t require any upfront cash outlay. Members of the YMCA Heritage Club are individuals and families who have made a designated gift or pledge to the YMCA of Snohomish County Endowment Fund, ensuring the Y’s ability to be a positive force in the community for years to come. Heritage Club members share a common desire to build a strong future through the work of the Y.

TOGETHER, WE CAN BUILD A BETTER US As a cause-driven charitable organization, the Mill Creek YMCA is dedicated to nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving our community’s health and well-being and giving back by providing support to our neighbors. We offer many programs and services, but for some people, these services may not be attainable because of the cost. The Mill Creek YMCA makes sure that these services are available to everyone regardless of income or financial circumstances. Funds raised through the Annual Campaign make it possible for children, families and adults to have access to Y programs that improve their lives. Together, we can build a better us. Our 2017 Annual Campaign has come to an end and our community pulled together to raise over $158,000 to provide anyone the opportunity to participate in life changing Y programs regardless of their ability to pay. We couldn’t have done this without the support of all our committed volunteers and generous donors!

THE MILL CREEK YMCA ANNUAL CAMPAIGN: RAISES Awareness and funds for our financial assistance program. ENABLES Participation of hundreds of children and families in the Y membership, programs, summer camp and before/after school child care.

Annual fund allocations are disbursed to each of our six branch locations and Big Brothers Big Sisters to help ensure that critical Y programs and services are provided. Supporting the Y through the Endowment Fund is easy. If you want to learn more talk with your local branch staff or connect with our Chief Development Officer, Jennifer Willows at 425 374 5745 or jwillows@ymca-snoco.org.

YOUR SUPPORT HELPS THE Y DELIVER ON OUR COMMITMENT:  To nurture the potential of youth through building confidence at camp, academic enrichment in safe afterschool programs, or foundational skills and values in our child care programs.  To improve the nation’s health and well-being through combating obesity and chronic disease by providing the support and resources people need to make positive change.  To give back and support our neighbors by empowering people with the resources to improve their lives and connect and contribute to the community, such as with job training, housing, newcomer services, and opportunities to advocate for social change.  To offer programs and services to children, adults and families who need financial assistance.

ALLOWS The Y to provide financial assistance to anyone who would not be able to afford our programs and services. BROADENS Our reach into enriching community wellness and health.
