Summer just flew by this year! I must admit that it will be hard to leave the long warm days of summer behind. I am very excited for what is ahead of us in the next few months, the Fall season represents new beginnings and the opportunity to establish or get back into our “normal” routines. Kids are back in school, the weekends are filled with activities and sports and the days are getting shorter.

Many of the great programs are returning from a summer hiatus, and will be high-quality and engaging. We will be here to help your future leaders achieve their potential with the Youth & Government and Pacific Regional Conference, or kids to be introduced to soccer and begin a life of staying active. Family and community time is good for the soul. We have quite a few exciting events coming up: - Healthy Living Fair, Friday September 7 - Welcoming Week, September 14-23 - Pumpkins in the Pool, Friday October 19 - Harvest Festival, Friday, October 26 - Veterans Day Program & Potluck, November 9 On a personal note, I will be moving to our Everett YMCA this fall an interim role through 2019 as we open the new Everett Y branch in Fall 2019. Beginning this October, we will welcome an interim Executive Director, Cory Armstrong-Hoss to lead your Mill Creek YMCA. Cory will join us from the Mukilteo YMCA where he served as Associate Executive, and bring his over 17 years of experience with the Y. Please join me in welcoming him to our incredible community. MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION NOW IT’S EASIER THAN EVER TO JOIN THE Y! Membership in the Y is a special thing. Be a part of a leading nonprofit organization for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA of Snohomish County is a membership organization and anyone can join. So, with simple monthly dues, you have no contracts or minimum stays to worry about and no sales pitches to endure. Just quality, healthy programs that your whole family can enjoy.

MEMBERSHIP TYPES FACILITY MEMBERSHIP Get full access to fitness centers at all five YMCAs in Snohomish County with a Facility Membership. Choose from a wide menu of free group exercise classes, enjoy lap and recreational swimming, and receive a free wellness orientation when you join. And as a facility member, you’ll be eligible for priority registration and reduced fees on specialty classes and programs for your whole family. PROGRAM MEMBERSHIP If you’re not already a Y Facility Member and want to participate in programs like summer camps, youth sports, swimming lessons and child care, you’ll need an annual Program Membership. You’ll receive the same great level of quality and caring for which the Y is known, but without access to wellness centers and other amenities offered through a full Facility Membership. COMMUNITY MEMBERSHIP Belonging is a philosophy at the heart of the Y. Everyone in the community is considered a free Community Member and is welcome to participate in key community events and programs such as fun runs, health fairs, and community education. NATIONWIDE MEMBERSHIP Nationwide Membership enables Y members to visit any participating YMCA in the United States. It is valid for active, full facility members. Nationwide members must visit their home Y at least 50% of the time. Program-only participants are not eligible for Nationwide membership. To find a Y in another location, visit ymca.net. GENERAL INFORMATION OUR MISSION To inspire, nurture, and strengthen culturally vibrant communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. MEMBERSHIP CARD Your membership card is valuable and important. A valid membership card or photo ID is required every time you enter the Y. If you lose your card, you can get a replacement for a small fee. You can also use the mobile app as a way to access the facility, just link the app to your membership card! GUESTS Your membership includes unlimited guest passes per year. Each pass is good for one redemption at any branch of the YMCA of Snohomish County, and admits one person or one family to join you at the Y. At busy times, the Y reserves the right to limit guest usage. All guests must present photo identification and adhere to facility guidelines. A guest may use Y facilities up to three times in one calendar year with a member. Thereafter, a day pass or membership must be purchased. ACCESS FOR ALL With a focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, the Y nurtures the potential of every youth and teen, improves the nation’s health and well-being, and provides opportunities to give back and support our neighbors. The Y offers affordable membership and program pricing based on income to individuals and families to ensure equitable access. No join fee, no documentation, no waiting, and no barriers. Anyone is eligible to apply for Y Access For All. Because our assistance is income-based, we ask that you speak with a staff member at your YMCA’s Welcome Center or, if you would prefer a more private setting, make an appointment with your YMCA’s Access For All administrator. PAYMENT OPTIONS Bank draft and credit card payments are a convenient way to pay membership fees and ensure your membership is current. New membership activation requires a one-month payment of membership dues and pro-rated monthly fees at time of enrollment as well as banking account information or a credit card. If your banking or credit card information changes, please let us know at least 15 days before your draft, or you may be charged a $30 NSF fee for nonpayment.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE Members may have their membership held in abeyance once per calendar year upon 15 days advance written notice if membership dues are current. All members on Leave of Absence will be charged a convenience fee of $7 per month for the duration of the Leave of Absence. A minimum abeyance of 30 days and a maximum abeyance of 120 days is permitted. Membership will be automatically activated after a term of abeyance expires. Please visit the Welcome Center for more information. SILVERSNEAKERS®, SILVER & FIT, & OPTUM MEMBERSHIPS Ages 65+ Many insurance plans have a fitness benefit which will cover part or all of a YMCA membership. Some plans carried by Humana, United Health Care, Group Health, Regence Blue Shield, Premera, Soundpath, Aetna, Kaiser Permanente of the Northwest, Optima Health, Providence Health Plan, Sterling Insurance Company, and others may be eligible. Please contact your insurance company to determine if your health plan qualifies you. FITNESS REIMBURSEMENTS More and more health insurance companies are choosing to reward their clients for healthy behaviors through fitness reimbursement programs. Contact your insurance company or your company’s Human Resource department and ask about Fitness Reimbursements today! TALK TO US: This is your Y. Please make your concerns and comments known! Member suggestion cards are available throughout the facility and at the Welcome Center. In addition, you may receive an electronic comment card in your email inbox called OPEN-LINE. If you have something to tell us, great! Let us know. We pledge to acknowledge each comment and respond appropriately. LEED The Mill Creek Family YMCA has received a silver level certification rating by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building for the 2010 expansion we did. By receiving LEED certification, the YMCA has committed to implementing measures throughout design and construction that focus on careful construction practices, non-toxic material selections, efficient lighting and heating equipment, and a healthy, comfortable indoor environment. FOOD AND BEVERAGES No food or drink other than water is permitted in the workout and gym, and pool areas.

Annual payments are perfect for members who want to pay for their membership one year at a time. This option requires payment of 12 months at time of enrollment.

GENERAL INFORMATION PROGRAM REFUND GUIDELINES The following guidelines are for programs that do not have required deposits (which are non-refundable). Special restrictions apply to Camp, Child Care, Membership and other programs that are clearly stated in their brochures and registrations. Program Directors have the final say to make any allowances other than the following:

 Cancelling a program 1 week prior to first day of the program start date = 100% full refund less a minimum of a $5 service fee may apply  Cancelling a program after the program start date = refunds will be prorated less a minimum of a $5 service fee may apply  Cancelling a program half-way or more after the program start date = no refund. FACILTY YOUTH GUIDELINES “Supervising individuals” are defined as persons 14 years or older. The following general guidelines apply to all youth who are not participating in a supervised, structured program while in the facility: • Ages 6 and under must have direct supervision at all times. • Ages 7-Fifth Grade must be accompanied by a supervising

individual who remains in the building. The supervising individual does not have to be in the same area as the youth. The youth may sign themselves in and out of the program areas if required and follow the age restrictions posted for specific rooms and activities. • Sixth Grade-Age13 are not required to be accompanied by a supervising individual but are subject to age restrictions for specific areas. • Ages 14 and older are considered adults only for the purpose of use of the facilities and programs. An orientation to the facility and equipment is strongly recommended. ATTIRE As a family organization, the YMCA of Snohomish County encourages members and their guests to maintain an appearance that is not disruptive, distracting, nor offensive in any regard and to wear attire that does not present health or safety concerns. These guidelines are meant for example purposes and may not be inclusive of all expectations. Not permitted  Clothing and jewelry that carry sexual, vulgar, or offensive messages or references, including pictures of the use of alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and gang affiliation.  Any apparel item that can be used as a weapon.  Jeans are not permitted in workout areas. Required in workout areas  Closed-toe athletic shoes.  Shirts or workout tops.  Proper swim attire is required in the pool and spa areas.

AGE GUIDELINES BY AREA • Weight/Cardiovascular Rooms: Ages 12 & 13 may use the strengthening circuit and cardio machines, without supervision after completing the Teen Strength Orientation. Ages 8-11 can only use the cardio machines, but must be under direct adult supervision at all times. Free weights are only available for those 14+, regardless of adult supervision. • Open Swim: Ages 6 and under must be accompanied by a supervising individual in the water. All youth are subject to swim testing and other applicable rules (please see the pool schedule or a lifeguard for specific tests). • Family Swim: Ages 13 and under must be accompanied by a supervising individual in the water. All youth are subject to swimtesting and other applicable rules (please see the pool schedule or a lifeguard for specific tests). • Spa/Whirlpool: The Washington State Health Department does not allow children age 6 and under in the spa/whirlpool. Ages 7-13 may use it when directly supervised by a parent or guardian. • Locker/Shower Facilities: Age 5 and under may use the opposite sex locker room if accompanied by a supervising individual. Age 6 years and older must use the same sex locker rooms and showers. Family/Assisted changing rooms are available. ELECTRONIC USAGE GUIDELINES Due to the advances in cellular and video technology, and for the privacy and protection of our members, the YMCA asks that members and participants adhere to the following guidelines: • Use of electronic devices is not permitted - at any time - in Y

locker rooms and youth program areas. • As a courtesy to other members, please set phones to silent while

working out and please limit phone conversations to the lobby or non-workout areas. • Taking photos or video without permission is not permitted on Y premises. LOCKERS Lockers are available for day use by members and guests. You must bring your own lock and remove it at the end of each visit. Items left overnight will be removed from the locker room and placed in lost and found.

Always secure your belongings. We recommend that you not bring valuables into the facility; the Y is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Security lockers for small items are available at no cost. Our Early Childhood Education program places your infant, toddler, and preschooler in a caring and supportive environment where they will grow through hands-on learning, individual development, and activities. Following developmentally age appropriate curriculum, your child gets exactly what they need to develop self-confidence & build social/emotional skills. SCHOOL AGE CARE SCHOOL AGE CARE BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL When school’s out, you can trust the Y to provide an engaging experience for your child right at school. Y School Age programs give your child the opportunity to get to know some of their classmates better as they engage in active play and collaborate on fun projects. In the process, they’ll continue to develop the physical, educational, emotional, and social skills that are essential for success. Our School Age programs serve children enrolled in Mill Creek, Bothell, Southeast Everett and Southwest Snohomish area elementary schools during their out-of-school times from 6:30 am-6:30 pm. On-site programs are located at the following schools: Cedar Wood Penny Creek

At the Y, we believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success. At the Y, school-age kids make friends, learn new skills and do homework. Most importantly, children learn how to be their best selves. Specific activities are different for each location and age group, but all locations feature:

We support school efforts in learning by bridging the gap between school and back. The Y provides hands on experiential activities for kids to learn in different ways. Our School Age Care staff strive to create ways for every child to learn and grow.

OUR STAFF Our School Age programs are staffed with people who understand the cognitive, physical and social development of kids; the need children have to feel connected and supported in trying new things; and the caring and reinforcement parents and families need to help each other. Each School Age location has a dedicated Site Coordinator, with a minimum of 30 college credits in early childhood or elementary education. Staff have attended, and continue to attend, regularly scheduled training events on Positive Behavior Guidance, Reframing Conflict, Active Learning, Building Community and Homework Help. Staff maintain current certification in CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, and other certification required by the licensor. In addition, staff and volunteers are thoroughly screened prior to employment and evaluated on a regular basis to ensure continually high performance. CHILD WATCH, ADVENTURE ZONE & YDC CHILD WATCH & ADVENTURE ZONE Ages 6 weeks-7 years Your child will be safe and well cared for in these areas of the facility while you enjoy your workout. Parents and Guardians must remain on site while utilizing our drop in care areas. Due to heavy usage and limited space, especially during peak times, we have a 90 minute limit in both rooms prior to 1:30 pm and after 3:30 pm. Families may use these spaces for up to 90 minutes twice a day. Be sure to pick up a parent brochure in either area for more specific information on these member benefits. REGULAR HOURS:

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CENTER (YDC) Ages 8+ Bring your friends and make new ones in the place where youth love to hang. Loaded with activities like ping pong, foosball, computers, board games, Wii, and an Xbox Kinect, there is always something to do in the YDC! A staff member is always on hand to supervise, play a game or help with homework. YDC will be closed for maintenance September 3-5.

YOUTH ENRICHMENT & RECREATION PRESCHOOL BUILDING BLOCKS 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR Ages 3-5 This program is a nurturing program that helps build steps for learning as your child grows with us in our program. We encourage peer interaction, listening and kindness through games and at our active circle time. Age appropriate concepts are taught through each core block program: Story Time, Imagination Station, Gym Games, Music & Movement plus science and sensory activities. We encourage registration for all 3 sessions to hold your spot.

Y WRITERS Ages 7-11 Calling all writers to join us for a fun time with the written word. No experience necessary, writers of all levels are welcome. This will be a non-pressure class that promises to be fun and creative. Each week a new topic will be introduced and at the end of the workshop you will get to take home a portfolio of your work!

NEW! Little 2’s This past year we had great success with our Preschool Building Blocks ages 3-5 and many of you have requested a program for your younger children. We have heard you and are excited to offer our Preschool Building Blocks Little 2’s program. This will be offered with the same core principles of our older program but for children ages 2-3. PLAY TIME Ages 16 months-6 with Parent or Guardian This is a great add-on to our Preschool Building Blocks. Join us in the gym Wednesdays and burn some energy off with your little ones. YOUTH SPORTS SPORTS LEAGUES The Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy habits they’ll carry with them throughout their lives. And the benefits are far greater than just physical health. Whether it’s gaining the confidence that comes from learning a new skill or building the positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, participating in sports at the Y is about building the whole child, from the inside out. The YMCA approach to Youth Sports is different from many leagues. It’s about kids being kids, kids having fun, kids staying healthy, and adult volunteers working together to make our community great. We focus on the four YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Every child gets equal playing time and we encourage fair play, positive competition and family involvement. Our goal is to enable each player to excel in that other game we’re all familiar with: the game of life.

Our sports leagues are coached by volunteers; if you are interested in coaching one of our teams please indicate so on your child’s registration form, or ask about coaching at the front desk.

This is a Saturday Only league with the first two Saturdays as practices, and the following six Saturdays will be games. This fast paced program has lots of scoring and is fun for all players. Game times will vary each week. 3/4 and 5/6 year old divisions will play games in the morning-early afternoon and the 7/9 year old division will play in the afternoon. Games will be held at the Mill Creek YMCA.

OPEN SWIM Facility Members may come in and have access to the pool during our Open Swim times. SWIM TEST AND WRISTBAND POLICY Children under the age of 12 who do not pass a height test of 54 inches at the armpits are subject to a swim test. Children under the age of 12 must also wear a wristband indicating their swimming ability. FAMILY SWIM Time for families to practice lesson skills with their children or to enjoy a calmer pool environment together. During Family Swim a supervising individual must be in the water with any child under 14 years old. LAP LANES At least one lap lane is open at all times during facility hours. Primary goals of the program include increased strength, cardio vascular endurance, and flexibility while improving energy levels, which will enhance functional ability to do everyday tasks. PEDALING FOR PARKINSON’S Ages 18+ Pedaling a bicycle may change the life of someone with Parkinson’s disease. Research conducted at the Cleveland Clinic showed a 35% reduction in symptoms by the simple act of pedaling a bicycle at a rapid pace, optimally, 80-90 revolutions per minute. We do know that fast-paced cycling is changing the lives of increasing numbers of participants who, had no hope beyond medication and eventually surgery, to slow the progression of their disease. Research by the National Institutes of health has proven that programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can reduce the number of cases of type 2 diabetes by 58%. In a classroom setting, a trained lifestyle coach will facilitate a small group of participants in learning about healthier eating, physical activity, and other behavior changes. The year-long program consists of 25 sessions over the course of one year. Our Common Ground Community Garden supports those with similar interest and that love to garden or are new to gardening. You can expect to get your hands dirty, work as a team and summer socials with plenty of produce to take home. Our first meetings of the new season start in January, where we plan our crops.

PICKLEBALL Pickle Ball is fun for all ages! Join a welcoming group of friendly players in the gym twice a week. This open play time is free for all Y members, and is a great opportunity to learn a new sport that emphasizes strategy and skills and have some fun! Mondays Wednesdays & Fridays

VOLUNTEER ACTIVATING PEOPLE FOR GOOD TOGETHERHOOD® The Y’s Togetherhood program connects people from all backgrounds to plan and carry out volunteer projects that address a real need in their community. We are excited to bring Togetherhood, a YUSA program, to our branch. This program links members of the Y to the community to complete a project that benefits the surrounding community.

Therese and Daniel, our Volunteer Coordinator and Member Experience Director, are currently looking for five to seven committee members of all ages and diversified backgrounds to work alongside her in creating and eventually leading this group of Togetherhood volunteers. If you are looking to get you or your family involved in volunteering, this program is a great way to start. Tomoko Bryant (Financial Development) Tomoko can be found teaching a class almost every day at the Y. This year, she is recognized for her massive impact on our Annual Campaign fundraising with Zumba Eve and much more. Dave Fisher (Policy) Dave is often referred to as the branch’s ambassador. He volunteers all over the branch, as a coach, in many programs, on the Board of Directors, at events, and so much more. Kaylene Brewer (Financial Development) Kaylene can also be found teaching a class most days here at the Y. Her and Tomoko made the most dynamic duo you have ever seen at Zumba Eve and fundraising this year for Annual Campaign. Elena Rengli (Program) Elena volunteers 4 days a week, multiple hours each day at our Welcome Center. She is a truly outstanding help and part of the Welcome Center staff with her ever smiling face.

Volunteers of the Y:  Lead our Board of Directors and branch committees.  Raise funds to ensure the Y is accessible to all members of the community through our Annual Campaign.  Motivate and support youth through coaching our sports teams and teaching many of our classes.  Make a difference in a child’s future by assisting staff and supporting children in child care and academic enrichment programs.  Extend a hand to help adults who want to do more, be more or live healthier through healthy living programs.  Participate in opportunities to give back and support neighbors through food drives, community events and more!

We offer many programs and services, but for some people, these services may not be attainable because of the cost. The Mill Creek YMCA makes sure that these services are available to everyone regardless of income or financial circumstances. Funds raised through the Annual Campaign make it possible for children, families and adults to have access to Y programs that improve their lives. Together, we can build a better us.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT Financial assistance keeps the Y available for kids and families who need us most. We count on the generosity of our members and community to help people of all ages and from all walks of life be more healthy, confident, connected, and secure. When you give to the Y, your gift will have a meaningful, enduring impact right in your own neighborhood. The Y’s Financial Assistance Program is supported by contributions to our Annual Campaign and United Way. YOUTH MEMBERSHIP AT REDUCED COST Ages 10+ The Y is for everyone. Youth Memberships at reduced cost are available to teens who are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches at school. Turn in your Youth Membership application with:

School District letter of eligibility for the free/reduced lunch program, or from a school counselor confirming eligibility. Payment of $17 or $34, based on free or reduced status.

MILITARY OUTREACH INITIATIVE We understand that military families are under enormous strain. Title 10 personnel are eligible for a Y membership. You and your family can spend quality time together and enjoy fun activities in a warm, supportive environment. Visit ymca.net for more information. FOOD BANKS We collaborate with the Mill Creek Food Bank to collect food year round, school supplies in the fall, and toys to help with the holidays. We have a collection bin located in the breezeway of our main entrance. BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS We partner with BBBS to provide a donation drop for clothing and our annual toy drive during the holidays. You can find the purple clothes drop box located on the south side of our parking lot.
