What brings hundreds of people through our doors each day?
Ben Falcone, Membership Coordinator bfalcone@ymca-snoco.org
Our members tell us as if it's second nature. To them, the YMCA is about total wellness - enhancing spiritual, mental, and physical health. Members also tell us that one of the most important reasons they come to the Mill Creek YMCA is for the quality time it allows them to spend with their family. In our busy lives, family time is often the hardest to schedule, but it’s also one of the most important aspects of our children’s development.
Taise Gerhard, Child Care Registrar & Financial Assistance tgerhard@ymca-snoco.org 425 224 8046
The YMCA is the place where someone new can immediately become a part of community life. Many praise the Y for its inclusive approach to people facing physical or mental challenges or financial difficulties. Most important, the YMCA is responding to critical challenges facing our community, including constructive after-school programs for tweens and teens, youth obesity, affordable childcare and summer camps or life-saving skills such as swim instruction for kids and adults. It all comes together in a way that sets the Mill Creek YMCA apart from other not-for-profit community organizations: The YMCA fuses programs, exercise, learning, self-esteem, confidence, knowledge, and camaraderie to build people one step at a time. The end result is a stronger individual, a strengthened family - and, ultimately, a stronger community Thank you for making the Mill Creek YMCA a part of your life! We look forward to serving you and your family throughout 2018. Sincerely,
Kyla McNulty, Branch Executive Director

GENERAL INFORMATION OUR MISSION To inspire, nurture, and strengthen culturally vibrant communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. MEMBERSHIP CARD Your membership card is valuable and important. A valid membership card or photo ID is required every time you enter the Y. If you lose your card, you can get a replacement for a small fee. You can also use the mobile app as a way to access the facility, just link the app to your membership card! GUESTS Your membership includes unlimited guest passes per year. Each pass is good for one redemption at any branch of the YMCA of Snohomish County, and admits one person or one family to join you at the Y. At busy times, the Y reserves the right to limit guest usage. All guests must present photo identification and adhere to facility guidelines. A guest may use Y facilities up to three times in one calendar year with a member. Thereafter, a day pass or membership must be purchased. ACCESS FOR ALL With a focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, the Y nurtures the potential of every youth and teen, improves the nation’s health and well-being, and provides opportunities to give back and support our neighbors. SWIM, SPORTS & PLAY SPORTS LEAGUES The Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy habits they’ll carry with them throughout their lives. Plus, the benefits are far greater than just physical health. Whether it’s gaining the confidence that comes from learning a new skill or building the positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, participating in sports at the Y is about building the whole child, from the inside out. The YMCA approach to Youth Sports is different from many leagues. We focus on the four YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Every child gets equal playing time and we encourage fair play, positive competition, and family involvement. Our goal is to enable each player to excel in that other game we’re all familiar with: the game of life.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBLITY VOLUNTEERS OF THE QUARTER ELENA RENGLI Elena has been volunteering for the last three months at the Welcome Center putting in no fewer than 16 hours a week and often times more than that. Elena has a beautiful smile that greets every member as they walk through the door. Elena exemplifies the spirit of what a Welcome Center Representative should be through her day to day interaction with members, staff and work ethic. Elena has positioned herself into a role we never want to let go of. She is a “start to finish” volunteer not wavering for a moment with her positive upbeat character. From a Director perspective, when I see Elena behind the counter, I become confident in knowing that day will be a great day.
TOGETHER, WE CAN BUILD A BETTER US As a cause-driven charitable organization, the Mill Creek YMCA is dedicated to nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving our community’s health and well-being and giving back by providing support to our neighbors. We offer many programs and services, but for some people, these services may not be attainable because of the cost. The Mill Creek YMCA makes sure that these services are available to everyone regardless of income or financial circumstances. Funds raised through the Annual Campaign make it possible for children, families and adults to have access to Y programs that improve their lives. Together, we can build a better us.
THE MILL CREEK YMCA ANNUAL CAMPAIGN:
Elena has expanded her volunteerism to working on some admin projects for us. Most recently Elena helped us with taking staff pictures, inputting names and titles, and printing and hanging the banners down the hallway. We are so very lucky to have her as a volunteer.
RAISES Awareness and funds for our financial assistance program. ENABLES Participation of hundreds of children and families in the Y membership, programs, summer camp and before/after school care. ALLOWS The Y to provide financial assistance to anyone who would not be able to afford our programs and services. BROADENS Our reach into enriching community wellness and health.
KATIE FERGUSON
YOUR SUPPORT HELPS THE Y DELIVER ON OUR COMMITMENT:
Katie has volunteered as a swim aid with our Saturday lessons for a total of 80 hours. Her commitment and help in swim classes is appreciated beyond measure by all the swim instructors she helps. The lesson parents appreciate her interaction with their children. Her being there helps the children have more opportunity to learn faster. It has been a joy to watch her teaching skills grow a great deal during this period. We look forward to watching her growth and what she adds to our programs in the future. Katie is an excellent swimmer herself, spending a couple of years on our swim team and now swims for her high school.
Please join us in congratulating Elena and Katie on being our volunteers of the quarter.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES There are numerous ways to get involved with volunteering at the Y. To get started, contact Therese Huri, Volunteer Coordinator P 425 344 2028 E thuri@ymca-snoco.org
To nurture the potential of youth through building confidence at camp, academic enrichment in safe afterschool programs, or foundational skills and values in our child care programs. To improve the nation’s health and well-being through combating obesity and chronic disease by providing the support and resources people need to make positive change. To give back and support our neighbors by empowering people with the resources to improve their lives and connect and contribute to the community, such as with job training, housing, newcomer services, and opportunities to advocate for social change. To offer programs and services to children, adults and families who need financial assistance.
IMPACTING TOMORROW TOGETHER Did you know that the Y has an Endowment Fund and if you pledge support to the fund you are a member of our Heritage Club? Did you know this opportunity is available to everyone, at any age and income level? All you need is a passion for the Y and a desire to support the Y into the future. Making a gift or pledge to the Endowment Fund is easy and often doesn’t require any upfront cash outlay. Members of the YMCA Heritage Club are individuals and families who have made a designated gift or pledge to the YMCA of Snohomish County Endowment Fund, ensuring the Y’s ability to be a positive force in the community for years to come. If you want to learn more talk with your local branch staff or connect with our Chief Development Officer, Jennifer Willows at 425 374 5745 or jwillows@ymca-snoco.org.
