SUMMER 2018 | MILL CREEK FAMILY YMCA
YOUTH SPORTS SPORTS LEAGUES The Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy habits they’ll carry with them throughout their lives. And the benefits are far greater than just physical health. Whether it’s gaining the confidence that comes from learning a new skill or building the positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, participating in sports at the Y is about building the whole child, from the inside out. The YMCA approach to Youth Sports is different from many leagues. It’s about kids being kids, kids having fun, kids staying healthy, and adult volunteers working together to make our community great. We focus on the four YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Every child gets equal playing time and we encourage fair play, positive competition and family involvement. Our goal is to enable each player to excel in that other game we’re all familiar with: the game of life. Our sports leagues are coached by volunteers; if you are interested in coaching one of our teams please indicate so on your child’s registration form, or ask about coaching at the front desk.
YMCA SUMMERBALL: T-ball & Coach Pitch This program is designed for younger ages to help players learn basic baseball skills, such as batting, catching, throwing and basic game play. All children are encouraged to play, getting equal chances to bat, run bases and play in the outfield. Our volunteer coaches emphasize participation, skill-building, sportsmanship, teamwork, fitness, friendship, family involvement and fun. Teams will practice once a week and play games on Saturdays. ROOKIE LEAGUE Ages 3-4 This instructional program is an introduction to baseball that emphasizes participation, fun, and teamwork. Players learn the proper techniques and the fundamentals of catching, throwing, fielding, hitting off a tee, while learning the basic rules of the game. MINOR LEAGUE Ages 5-6 This is a coach pitch division. Coaches throw under or overhand from approximately 30 feet away. No one strikes out. After five pitches a child may hit off a tee. Kids continue to work on the baseball basics, while beginning to form a passion for the game in a casual environment. Season:

FALL OUTDOOR SOCCER AGE 3-9
Keep your child active and engaged as they dribble, pass and shoot their way to fun and excitement as a member of a youth soccer team. In addition to teaching participants the fundamentals of the "beautiful game," volunteer coaches make sure kids also learn important character values including teamwork and fair play. YMCA youth soccer promises no try outs, no getting cut and no bench warmers! Every child plays at least half of every game while making friends and learning new techniques. Equipment, field size and player number are age specific to increase involvement and touches on the soccer ball. Participants will improve basic soccer skills, learn good sportsmanship and have fun! Jerry James is a tremendous help to us at our Heatherwood facility. Jerry spends several hours each week as the in-house maintenance man and reading volunteer. Jerry is incredibly handy and willing to jump in and help with any project that needs attention. During reading time Jerry often tells real-life stories of his life on the farm in Texas and childhood memories. Jerry has a long history with the Y, working in various Y’s for over 30 years. He recently moved to Washington from Texas to be closer to his children and grand children.
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE TODAY! Across the United States, more than 500,000 business leaders, community advocates, parents, teens, and individuals who want to give back and support their neighbors volunteer at the Y. In 10,000 neighborhoods nationwide, including Snohomish County, we have the presence and partnerships to not just promise, but deliver positive personal and social change. Y volunteers give men, women, and children of all ages and from all walks of life the resources and support they need to be healthy, confident, connected, and secure. Volunteers of the Y: Lead our Board of Directors and branch committees. Raise funds to ensure the Y is accessible to all members of the community through our Annual Campaign. Motivate and support youth through coaching our sports teams and teaching many of our classes. Make a difference in a child’s future by assisting staff and supporting children in child care and academic enrichment programs. Extend a hand to help adults who want to do more, be more or live healthier through healthy living programs. Participate in opportunities to give back and support neighbors through food drives, community events and more!
