IMPACT STORY: RICARDA Ricarda first learned about the Y through taking GED and English classes at the Casino Road Community Center. The Y’s free child care at the Center allows her to focus on improving her English, reading, and math skills. Through advancing her own education, Ricarda wants to achieve more in her new country and be able to help her children with homework. There’s something else she wants for her kids: to learn to swim. Growing up in Mexico, Ricarda never learned to swim. When she had her own kids, she knew she needed to learn to swim to keep them safe at lakes and pools. Financial assistance provided Ricarda and her family memberships to the Y. Her children are now taking swim lessons, and she too has learned to swim at the Y so she can keep up with them.
INSPIRING POTENTIAL Supporting academic achievement and inspiring kids to reach their greatest potential. We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve, under the guidance of adults who care about them and believe in their potential. By providing a continuum of support from birth through high school, we see every interaction with young people as an opportunity for learning, leadership, and development.
“My child has learned how to share and get along with other children. He has learned how to follow rules, deal with his emotions, and to empathize with others. He will be ready for kindergarten when he is 5-years-old because of the time he has spent at the YMCA.”

“The Diabetes Prevention Program has been a lifesaver for me. I feel like I’m in control now and I didn’t feel that way before. I am now exercising and meeting the goal of 150 minutes a week if not more, and I just feel so much better.”
