Join a monitoring team using pitfall traps to collect predacious beetles. Project will include field work, sorting and mounting insects using microscopes, labeling specimens, and data entry.

The Yellowstone Citizen Science Initiative will engage youth and adults from all backgrounds to collect essential data that will help park scientists and management officials better understand how the Yellowstone ecosystem is responding to changing environmental conditions.

Call for Volunteers
Citizen science volunteer Gabrielle Blanchard NPS Biologist Erik Oberg, second from right We are recruiting 6 "Carabid Crew" volunteers able to commit to one weekend per month, April–September. Yellowstone Forever will provide free housing Friday evening-Sunday afternoon at the Overlook Field Campus. We are recruiting an additional 15 day trip volunteers willing to contribute at least 5 weekdays to the project over the summer to assist with field and lab work. All training and equipment will be provided by the National Park Service.
Dates are April 27-29, May 24-26, June 14-16, July 26-28, August 23-25, and September 20-22. Carabid Crew Volunteers need to be able to commit to all weekend dates in order to participate. Day Trip volunteers may select from 12 weekday events. Next training dates is March 4, 2019 8am-12pm at MSU Bozeman.
Volunteers Should Have: • Transportation to Gardiner, MT • Ability to hike up to 5 miles on uneven terrain • Team work skills • Fine motor skills • Interest to learn insect taxonomy • Background in biological science preferred but not required.
