Reciting praises of 108 or even 1000 Holy Names dedicated to God or great sages is a time-honored tradition. Each and every manifestation of Brahman is thus given a series of Holy Names. This garland of 108 Holy Names is dedicated to Satguru Sri Swami Satchidananda. Reciting the Holy Names of the Guru with faith and devotion, and with awareness of their deep meaning, elevates the mind and attracts the Guru’s Grace and Blessings. Daily repetition of God’s and Guru’s Names is highly recommended by the Lord saying, “Among sacrifices, I am the sacrifice consisting in japa or repetition” (Bhagavad Gita, 10:25). This sacrificial act, which does not involve any injury, results in purity of mind, knowledge and supreme happiness.
