Is President Donald Trump really going to lead World War III?

Trump Tells UN It's Time to Remove Blindfolds from North Korea. Digital image. Puppet String News. N.p., n.d. Web. 20 Sept. 2017.

Immature kindergarten children are playing with the world.

I

magine two kids fighting each other to get the bigger toy. Think about what would happen if representatives from each country is fighting to show off their power. This childlike competition is surprisingly happening now between America and North Korea, which could lead to disastrous outcomes globally. Political power game between these countries plunged the world to chaos. Recently, the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un threatened America that he is willing and able to launch missiles at the US military base stationed in Guam. According to the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un, the goal of their efforts was to develop military systems “to establish the equilibrium of real force with the US and make the US rulers dare not talk about military options”. There’s still ongoing tensions between US and North Korea, which is the current focus of the world’s attention. 3 | OCTOBER 17

Who is the next victim of the T u r b u l e n t t h a n t h e war? You are the one. thunderstorm In return, the American president Donald Trump sharply warned via Twitter that if the North Korea does not stop its dangerous campaign, he is going to respond with “fire and fury”, which effectively means that he is going to do everything he can do to check, contain, and control North Korea, even if it means going to a full-scale war. Later on, president Trump tweeted that “maybe it wasn’t tough enough. They’ve been doing this to our country for a long time, for many years, and it’s about time that somebody stuck up for the people of this country and for the people of other countries. So if anything, maybe that statement wasn't tough enough.” President Trump’s bold statements could lead the world to be involved in war. If war happens, South Korea would immediately be influenced from bombs or refugees from North Korea. China, Japan, America, and the entire world would be affected heavily. Not only parents generation, but it could also impact the future generation to join the war. Teenagers would definitely be affected. Teenagers might be involved in the war that they don’t believe in. Because of two unwise leaders from two countries, teenagers might eventually have to kill their best friends sitting right next to them.

It was only last month, August, that president Donald Trump uncharacteristically applauded dictator Kim Jong-un on Twitter that it was a wise decision that the North Korea decided to back down on his threat to launch missiles toward Guam. North Korea changed their attitudes because China stated that they would not participate in the war between North Korea and America. President Trump further added in his Twitter that “the alternative would have been both catastrophic and unacceptable!" Everything seemed under control, with chaotic power struggles seemingly coming to an end. Moreover, the American president Donald Trump and the South Korean president Moon Jae-in agreed during the conference that it is necessary to have stronger and effective sanctions on North Korea. This judgement could be made to put pressure on North Korea for economically and diplomatically. These two nations have been condemned to work together to halt North Korea from developing their nuclear weapons, which are threatening to the other countries.

Does gender inequality exist in airline industry?

-Gender inequality still exists.-

G

ender imbalance unfortunately still exists in most careers today. You may think there’s no longer gender inequality due to gender equality movement in the past, but it’s still happening now near you. Think about the airline crew. Most flight attendants are female and most pilots are male. Amongst flight attendants, females outnumber the males. In Asia, some people call the flight attendants as the “flower” flying in the air. Most people consider the flight attendants as the climax for the jobs in the service industry. 7 | OCTOBER 17

Most people consider the flight attendants as the climax for the jobs in the service industry. In comparison, most males become engineers. The chance of becoming flight attendants for males is not high. In contrast, it’s quite uncommon for women to become pilots. Some females argued that it’s very tough for women to become women pilots. According to the database from US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), only 5.44% of women become commercial airline pilots globally.

Unreasonable aesthetic standards for deserving the job you want. When you are on the airplane, you may realize that most female flight attendants are tall, thin and pretty. For example, one university’s steward course required the height of above 162 cm and the weight of 48 kg or below for students. The university also denied a female student who has scars on her arms. The flight attendants wear short skirts and tight uniforms, which look very uncomfortable for them to do their

duties. There are few pants uniforms for female flight attendants, but it’s uncommon in most of the airline companies. Most female flight attendants are young because the retirement age is 55 years old for most of the airlines even though some flight attendants look very young and healthy. When the flight attendants are serving food, they usually squat to have the same eye level as their passengers. Airline companies argue that squatting is to provide better customer services to

passengers. Some people question whether these c u s t o m s a r e necessary, but increases potentials for sexual harassment.

The initial purpose of f li ght a t te n d ant s i s gone. The i n itia l job of flight attendants was to keep the safety of passengers. Nowadays, ma ny flight attendants are f a c i n g t h e‘ l i m i t e d standards’ to become stewa rds. Every year, there are a lw ays p a s s e n ge r s who sexually harass the flight attendants. Certainly, there a re improvements from 8 | OCTOBER 17

past that more males are joining to become the flight attendants. Some airlines, such as Air Canada provides pants as the uniforms for the female flight attendants. Cathay Pacific as an example, they increased the retirement age of flight attendants from 55 years old to 60 years old. More flight airlines give more chance for old ladies to become the flight attendants. Most western airlines give more lenient standards than Asian airlines. There’s indeed the need of having better gender equality for both females and males. It’s necessary to critically consider if gender inequality is needed.

Magical Guide To Inflight Beauty A

Chronological changes for fashion trend

s time changes, fashion trend changes. When many teenagers are becoming old, they are starting to have greater interests in beauty and fashion and very sensitive to current trends. Traveling to overseas, most people would still consider their fashion, such as their accessories that match with their clothes and cosmetics.

Are ‘Pilot’s Watches’ still wore by cockpit crew? When you are onboard, you may realize many pilots wear big watches. If you are interested in fashion, you would wonder what brand it is. Even if you are not interested in fashion, if you see a massive watch with fancy gold colors on top, you might be curious how much would that cost. You might even wonder why do most pilots are wearing such huge watches. Some people called them as ‘pilot’s watch’. Indeed, in the past, some cockpit crew used high technology with easily readable even during night time and was very functional. There was even wristwatches that were made just for the pilots. It was called ‘Santos’ made by Louis Cartier as a pilot complained about the needs of checking their pocket while flying. Some pilots may use ‘pilot’s watch’, however, many of them believe that wristwatches are one kinds of jewellery to express their personal styles. 11 | OCTOBER 17

Tips from flight attendants for keeping moisturized skin You may also realize most of the flight attendants’ faces are shiny and moisturized. Some women are interested in inflight beauty, and they might come to question, “how are their faces so shiny like a moon when my face is very rough and dry ?”. Here goes a tip from a female flight attendant. Ms. Park from Cathay Pacific. She realized that her face got rougher as

the day passes. Not only faces, but she found out that her hands got very dry. Ms. Park and her fellow stewards recommended that using moisture mist like NaPCA would help a lot on top of hand cream, ultra moisturizing cream and lip balms as well as drinking lots of water instead of soft drinks to keep you hydrated. What to do if you forgot to bring your cosmetics inflight? When you are using business class, you would receive a overnight kita bag full of miniature cosmetics including lotions and mists to keep

your face fresh. Sometimes, there’s even toothbrush with toothpaste, eyeshade and socks if you are not interested in cosmetics for you to use. Some airline even offer pajamas in business class. So if you found out you missed any of these next time when you travel in economy class ,why don’t you politely ask flight attendant. You never know what you could get from them!

Ultimate Career Advices and Dream Letter from Airline Crews

"It's okay to be unsure about your dream!"

-Career interviews with Airline Crews-

A

s teenagers, some people might be interested in doing jobs related to airlines. They might be influenced from the movies or advertisements they saw, and they might even have fantasies about these jobs. In airlines, there are different types of jobs, such as pilots, control tower people, engineers, and flight attendants. There are lots of news from small to bigger issues. These people in airline occupations are having all different types of stories from how they decided to have such jobs, what kind of nice or bad passengers they have met so far, what are the pros and cons about doing their jobs and how did their life change after they got into airline companies. Let’s see how are their stories different from your expectations.

-Interviews with flight attendantMs. Park: Not at all! I was in major for food nutrients! I don’t think the major that you chose during the university decides what you want to be in the future. I started as junior in airlines and spent more than 20 years to become the inflight manager, which is the highest level of flight attendants. Alice: What was the most memorable experience that you had so far while working as a flight attendant? Ms. Park: I remember I met a very polite passenger, who always said, “Thank you.” As flight attendants are also human, we want to provide the best services to passengers who treat us nicely. On the other hand, there’s lots of misbehaving passengers. We were trained to control these passengers before we become the flight attendants. Of course, we would say nicely at first, but if they continue to disturb and harm the other passengers, we have to use the force to control them. We even have handcuffs in airplanes! Alice: What do you think is the benefits to be a flight attendants? 14 | OCTOBER 17

Ms. Park: I think the benefits are the ability to fly to overseas except North Pole and South Pole and to get different food and clothes to give to our family. Also, when the stay are long, we get to travel around the country without having to pay extra money for the place to sleep. My family could also travel at the discounted rate. But, this job is physically demanding work as you have to work while other people are sleeping and you won’t get to see your family often. Alice: Could you please give advice to teenagers who want to involve in airline careers or teenagers who are struggling to figure out what types of job do they want to have when they grow up? Ms. Park: If you want to be involved in airline jobs, go and talk to people who are working as airline engineers, pilots, and flight attendants. I want to say that you don’t have to panic that you don’t have any dreams in your mind. Take your time and chance to explore the world. It’s okay to be unsure about your dream As Ms. Park suggests, becoming flight attendants could be beneficial to you if you like to travel, but it’s not an easy job. Also, you don’t have to worry about unclear career dreams you have in your mind. Your dream could always change and it's natural.

How to get the same experience as using the first class seat?

A

s a student, taking a luxurious first class seat is not an easy thing to do unless your family is super wealthy that they can afford you such a comfortable seat. But don't be disappointed! Here are some solutions for you to try! Even better, you will have better experiences than taking a first class seat.

19 | OCTOBER 17

1. Use airport lounge. The first thing that might come to your mind after hearing about an airport lounge could be ‘oh, it’s too expensive for me to use!’ It’s indeed expensive, but not unreasonably expensive as you may think. Prices may vary on the airport, and the price would be about HKD 400. There are many options that you can use, such as Priority Pass, Lounge Pass, Dragon Pass, etc. In Hong Kong airport lounges, you could chill out and enjoy few relaxations. For example, the Plaza Premium Lounge, located at the nonrestricted area at Terminal 2, you could enjoy hot showers, all day food and drinks, beauty and massage services. If you have a chance to go aboard with your family, try airport lounge! You will experience fantastic experiences.

2. Seats near emergency exit is not always good.

3. If you are likely to have travel sickness, try to sit at the middle. If you are terrified flying onboard or often have travel sickness, try using seats at the middle line of the airplane. These seats are located after the wings of the airplane. These seats are very stable even during the turbulent situation. It’s even less shaky than the first class! However, if you are so sensitive about sound, then you have to know that these seats are noisy during the landing and takeoff as these seats are near the landing gears. Just keep in mind!

Many people prefer seating at near the exit because the seats are relatively bigger and they can place cradle if they have a baby. However, these seats have disadvantages too. Lots of seats in this area are stationary and unable to push back. For the seat that allows placing cradle, you would have to handle babies crying for the entire journey.

4. If you are traveling alone, here are some tips! There are few chances that you could be upgraded to business class if the flight is overbooked. If there are fewer passengers in the aircraft, you could see entire row empty. You may get the advantage of traveling while lying down at the one whole row. Another advice is to carry some personal items, including pillow and blanket for your comfortable journey.

5. Avoid boring situation: bring something that you could enjoy. Depends on what airlines you are taking, some airlines provide you to enjoy ‘Skype’, ‘Facetime’, and ‘Netflix’. If not, most airlines would still provide exclusive movies and music for you to enjoy! posts, Article by Ilja Shatilin 22. “How Inflight WiFi Internet Acc e s s W o r k s .” D a ily E n g l ish G l o b a l Blogkasperskycom, 30 Mar. 2015, www.kaspersky.com/ blog/inflight-internet-access/8034/.

6. Make some friends who are working in the airline. Some people say that it’s better to know people is more advantageous than what kinds of knowledge you have. It means to increase your human relations. If you have a chance of making friends who are working in the airline, befriend with them! When you become friend with flight pilot, he or she could send you the first class desserts for you to try! If you become friend with in-flight service manager, he or she could upgrade your seat! You never know.
